So SafeSport calls for an open and transparent coach to child relationship that requires parents to be included or in the least other adults. DEI on the other hand is about: * Providing a “safe environment for personal introspection. A one on one confidential space to explore tough or sensitive DEI themes without fear of judgement, helping others with discomfort and vulnerability (including parents), and overcoming deep-rooted bias and behaviour. This DOES NOT include parents, or other adults to protect said children, look at the schools who have had policies to not tell parents of non-binary concerns or dilemmas their own CHILDREN ARE FACING. And people wonder why Trump was elected. It’s all of this that unfortunately the democrats took too far. And I’m a libertarian and believe that. These are children. I could go on and on but I will not. I’m done commenting on the topic because obviously we will agree to disagree, but I have plenty of friends that are in total agreement of this industry and organization.

Just a head’s up, Mod1 doesn’t have a lot of tolerance for politics in the horse forum. Best to leave political parties out of the posts if you don’t want the thread shut down.

You can have DEI and harassment programs run harmoniously together and support each other for a wide variety of people. This is literally a very portion of my job; I know what good looks like here. I won’t weigh in on whether or not it was done well at USEF because I haven’t read into the policies or talking to the people who implemented them.

All that said, there is SO MUCH to criticize USEF for that I’d be interested in reading about. But laying it at the feet of DEI as the root cause, which is what it sounds like is happening here, really takes away credibility. I’d rather dig into the finances and the data models. And have a highly transparent AP/AR in terms of what that money flowing in and out is influencing, but I digress…
Thanks for that link. I was unaware USEF had a DEI action plan.
So that’s one of the main complaints of this meandering, wordy diatribe? It puts a whole new perspective on the recent thread about the young black woman who felt ostracized-- or at least unwelcome-- at the dressage clinic, and the h/j discussion about creating helmets that would safely accommodate ethnic hairstyles.
Even without reading the entirety of this rambling rant, I give it 1/2 out of 4**** on the NP Maestro Scale of Irrelevance.
It’s actually not all about DEI TBH. It’s a part of it but not all of it most definitely. It pulls out how everything they do is about profits above all else and provides clarity to that. I think you’d be surprised though if you dug into DEI it actually is pretty polar opposite of what SafeSport is mandating. Again, I’m done commenting but since it was clear it was being attacked because of political leanings, I had to speak my mind on that. I brought it up on here as a focus of all of what the book really is about and see if others had read it and their thoughts on the rogue behaviors of the USEF, the facts on attrition and everything else they’ve done to put profits ahead of horse and people welfare. But of course a few attacked me immediately as they always do .
And for the record, USEF doesn’t care about DEI, they only care about profits and they pay lip service but then do everything in their power to make the sport more and more exclusive, and to get more money in their pockets . That’s part of the irony in the whole thing that she covers. Just like horse welfare. How many emails can we get from USEF about horse welfare while meanwhile they do NOTHING to protect the horses. Unlike the orgs in Europe who are taking it seriously and mandating changes - look at the new fei noseband measuring device going into play.
Wow, that is a huge stretch
Good luck to all
No - you have to screen shot it (I just did).
Do you know they are facts?
Just curious…
Or are they like Nick P level of fact-ness?
USEF has been effing us over since the 90s. None of it has anything to do with recent DEI efforts, a concept about which you clearly have no understanding if you’re trying to boil it down to one sentence about “safe spaces”.
I swear to god. The backflips y’all do to blame everything on brown people. Absolutely insane the level of racism we’re facing here in the year 2025.
I thought COTH prohibited advertising in posts even when it is a poster pretending they weren’t the one who is selling the product.
Just an FYI, WAP is Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion.
Anyway, please carry on, this woke-ass biotch’s popcorn is getting cold…
I can’t wait to read the chapter titled “Black Culture, Demands for Change…and a Future They Seek to Own”.
(Not kidding, this is an actual chapter in the book.)
I also recommend OP revisit literally any of Snoop’s work from the 90s where it’s largely about beating women who displease him (and I say this as a massive fan who has Doggy Style on vinyl. Yes, that’s an entire album called Doggy Style).
It’s so freaking in character to let that slide while taking down a woman who speaks about women actually receiving pleasure and not always just giving it.
So very, very mad about that that the whole “Thee STALLION” correlation to Olympic horse sports and its dire viewership completely flew over her head.
Honestly, this is some facebook level BS I don’t expect when I log onto COTH on an otherwise fine Friday morning. I’m A-OK if mods close this one.
I have no words (that I can say here without getting banned)
I’m currently reading Commander Speaks by J.J. Great book. I’m not a HJ person but never once while reading that book have I thought - “Dang, that DEI crap is just destroying HJ sport”…
Did you really say that? Um, you might want to actually study history because this sport was not created in the US and slavery in Europe was abolished long before the US existed.
This sport was developed by the military to create military cavalry units. The hunters were created by farmers hunting predators. Let’s start there.
Your support of this book and your responses here show a lack of education/understanding of both the sport’s history and history in general.
Well it’s her book so…
Lol. Silly me, I was hoping for an expose on how property developers took over the USEF in order to sell marginal ag land at inflated prices to trust funders whilst putting much-loved traditional venues out of business.
Assume OP wrote this book? Isn’t that against some very obvious rule they can be banned for @Moderator_1
Welcome, Judy!
Not sure I’m convinced it’s the author. Said author and I have only one mutual on FB (and that’s on both the profiles I’ve found for them). But the names OP is throwing about on her other thread lead me to believe we’d likely have more than that.
But more importantly, this author and I have one mutual. Could they be involved in something other than HJ? Sure, but a google of name + “horse” is devoid of any industry involvement.
This person likes horses and hates black people. That’s it. That’s the qualifications upon which she’s based her words.
I was just thinking that this sounds like the h/j edition of the Maestro’s tome.
Perhaps we should start a book club similar to that one, where we buy a copy and send it around for comments.
