Has anyone else started reading the book “Off Course” that was just written and released about the USEF?

Oh here we go with the fallacious connections between rights for consenting adults and pedophilia.

That’s never been debunked. /s

The table of contents alone makes me think I don’t need to read anything more.

I’m not a hunter/jumper person per se. The horse world has its flaws but those flaws are definitely not:

“Woke”
SafeSport
Black Lives Matter, Critical Race Theory or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Or…whatever the heck else this is.

Oh, and if I may be petty - the term is “Afterword” not “After Word.”

I got a nickel that says this is self-published slop by someone with no credentials whatsoever to speak knowledgeably on the sport.

So. What.

It almost-- almost– seems like you and the esteemed author (/s) are implying that People Who Are Not White should therefore be okie dokie with never being anything more in the upper echelons of equestrian sport other than grooms, horse washers and barn-to-arena golf cart drivers.

Let’s be real the people who buy into this conspiracy quackery wouldn’t know a journalist if Ben Bradlee, Edward R. Murrow, Ida B. Wells, Woodward, Bernstein, etc. all grouped up to mug them in a dark alley.

They wouldn’t even know if I threw Will McAvoy in that list that he’s fictional.

Ya know what next time I doubt my skills, I think I’ll just remind myself that people write self-published tripe like this that somehow gets an entire thread on the internet devoted to it.

I’m still laughing at “Out With the Old… In With the WOKE” :joy:

I know it’s well used narrative but seriously this just makes me so angry when I see people equate LGBTQIA with pedophilia :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I only ended up on this trainwreck b/c I got stuck after writing the first paragraph of something at work and I’m procrastinating and wondered what this was.

Wasn’t expecting a dumpster fire on wheels.

I’m not even a rap fan, much, and I know Snoop Dogg started out w/gansta rap in the '90s and had an album (apparently - I wasn’t initially sure if album or song but scrolling thread, it’s an album) called Doggy Style.

I do enjoy some Kendrick Lamar though. And Rage Against The Machine has some rap influence but I’d call them more alternative than true rap.

Like…what exactly is the problem with that?

DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN

Oh no…it’s…policies that make our sport more equitable and accessible.

Helmets designed for all hair types not just stick straight hair.

People trying to make everyone feel welcome.

Sooooo horrifying. /s

I want to be very clear about this: They are not implying, they are proudly proclaiming their racism. We are far beyond dog whistles at this point.

This thread and all the WAP rap music talk just made pull up my “Rap I Like” spotify playlist. Decided to cue up King Kunta by Kendrick Lamar.

Also the “people who started this sport had slaves”

Uh…yo did they not realize this sport started in Europe? With the military? Not so much the hunter/jumpers, but in general. Not sure that all of the European countries have the exact same history w/slavery as the US though I’m not a history buff by any means.

Black cowboys existed, often get overlooked by history. Black jockeys. Black hunter/jumper trainers - there was…ack I’m blanking on his name, but there’s a Black man in the US Show Jumping HoF. He was inducted in 2012, IIRC.

Bert De Nemethy came to the US from Hungary so, ya know, immigrant.

Don’t think anyone disagrees that this is a sport for the wealthy at the highest levels, but that doesn’t mean we can’t work on equity and accessibility.

I’m guessing you’re referring to PF.

Yes b/c being based in Oakland as a white woman at a probably corporate owned paper that didn’t fully cover the realities of the city totes qualifies one to speak on issues that BIPOC face. Author probably crossed the street anytime she saw a non-white person on the same sidewalk.

Hm, reminds me, wasn’t Kathy Kusner a hunter/jumper person who tried to y’know, make the sport more equitable and accessible in her own way (albeit probably also imperfectly) via some of what she did outside of the competition ring?

The OP’s account can be linked with a real person who is not the author of this book, so concerns about self-promotion can be put aside.

We do allow discussion of current events as they directly relate to the industry, so it’s fine to address the opinions expressed in this book.

Please try to keep things from getting too far into generalized political debate, and please avoid obscenities, etc.
