Has anyone else started reading the book “Off Course” that was just written and released about the USEF?

Oh, totally agree. I was just making an effort to be sly about it.

What’s really laughable is the juxtaposition between lamenting the continuing decline of USEF membership on one hand, yet expressing great umbrage at conducting outreach to under represented groups to perhaps boost membership.

Well, thanks to you I will now have Snoop’s “Gin and Juice” stuck in my head for the rest of the day!

Okay hold up a sec - not saying you’re wrong because I’m not sure what the de facto first equestrian sports org was in the US but if we’re talking sport horses a lot of it in the US started with former cavalry after WWII.

I’m not at home so don’t have books handy but I have a couple actual books that dive into USET history that I can check later. Now - that’s specifically USET, but.

You could have ended the sentence right there.
It’s painful to read even a snippet of that word salad.

So, someone actually wrote a book because they were afraid the hunter jumper world wasn’t lily white enough?

Screeched brakes Wait. For real? Not some sort of clever irony?

Bless their racist little shriveled up hearts.

The ladies should all be riding aside, with veils. It was only after women began riding astride that society went woke.

Horse shows and The American Horse Show Association, which was the earlier incarnation of the current USEF, definitely existed long before World War II.

That’s totally me

Apologies @Moderator_1, I truly did not expect to get so riled up on a Friday morning (though given the state of things probably should)

Yeah I think I was thinking more the USET at the organizational level.

I knew horse shows existed, just not sure organizationally what was when or who was behind what offhand.

Especially when the overwhelming majority of the offenders seem to be white “Christian” clergy and LEOs.

And corsets. Don’t forget the corsets.

Honestly, I look at those old pictures and wonder how those women could even breathe in those outfits, much less ride.

To borrow a comment I saw elsewhere recently–it’s not a dog whistle–it’s a foghorn.

Damn those woke nether regions sitting astride.

I gave up showing as a kid but I’m tempted to dress my horse in drag and show up at local show with rainbow flags flying. I’ll be the wokest damn fool you ever did see. I want to see if anyone points, screams in horror, and runs off yelling about how “they’re here! It’s happened!”

Beautiful! Bring the glitter and colors. Lots of colors. We’ll blind them with science. Allies gotta stand up for friends.

Y’know what, my barn where I rode growing up had flaws.

But I never thought a thing about the fact that one of the other lesson kids there was the half-Black popular sports boy from my school. He was approx. 3 years older than me, he was a senior my freshman year of HS, think he ended up in the Navy after graduation, cool dude.

Still remember the time I fell off learning to canter when I was maybe in 7th grade. He missed most of the chaos but came out of the barn just in time to see me getting up and getting back on the horse. My mom was watching from the arena fence, he went over to her, asked what just happened, she told him, he said, on realizing I was getting right back up and back on, he told my mom “she’s a better cowboy than I am!” He played football and I think also basketball, IIRC.

As if the racist yammerings aren’t bad enough, Safe Sport gets slammed as “a huge bureaucracy that operates outside the American judicial system” with the power to “destroy lives and careers.” When the author presents an analogy, comparing Safe Sport to “an over reaction like draining the oceans to prevent drownings—instead of (offering) swimming lessons” I know everything I ever need to know about this person and anyone who supports her and her views.

Safe Sport may indeed need some fine tuning. But putting the responsibility onto young girls and boys for the fact that they fall prey to predators is nothing but victim blaming at its most disgusting. Or am I engaging in just more Woke Talk?

I still have one pair of rainbow striped socks (gray with subtle stripes, had a more obvious rainbow pair but I lost one and now I think I lost the one I still had, why I always lose the fun socks, I dunno). :slightly_smiling_face:
