Heartbreaker CL ad, now Heartwarming Story: OldChestnutMare's Golden Retirement!
I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that BluenGray’s farm is GORGEOUS. No, not a “pretty show barn”. But if I was an old mare I’d want to retire there! Lovely pastures, great fence, pond, trees, cool shady stalls, and several other retirees to be buddies. All her horses are in good weight and sleek and soft. It was a slice of heaven on earth! Not to mention that she is a really nice person, and the first COTHer I’ve actually “met” knowingly, lol!

The bad news is still no contact from mare owner. I will try posting a response on craigslist to see if that works. :(
It’s still good news! Perhaps the owner doesn’t check emails regularly.

Would you be able to go with TimelyImpulse to pick her up, if the owner does decide to come out from hiding??

I’m sorry if it seems I’m trying to “run this rodeo”, I’m not…I’m just so damn excited for this mare, and this thread is WAY more interesting than my Geology homework!
She also has a twitter account, with the same username, maybe you could contact through there?
I think this is a great idea on one hand, but if I was this owner frankly that would freak me the heck out. Other opinions on going that route?

I want to get her out of there as much as the next COTHer, but I also think we have to be careful how much we push this person if we want her to be willing to respond to us. Maybe I’m in the minority on that one, so I will abide by whatever more knowledgeable heads say here. This is the first time I’ve helped out with one of these, so I’m happy to take some guidance.

I did change the title of my email to her and re-send as suggested with “can take today, cash in hand” in the title. YES, I hope we can get her for free, but if adding the “cash in hand” part gets her attention, it was worth it.

I also put up a reply on craigslist in case my emails are going to spam.

And runNjump86, I am available to meet TimelyImpulse pretty much any time this week to help pick her up. I’m only tied down tomorrow morning until noon, other than that I am willing to be anywhere at any time to get this girl moved.

LOVE the good news (although I didn’t have much doubt B&G’s place would be appropriate… ).

Caffeinated’s suggestion on the Twitter account is a good one if you also have a Twitter account. Might work quicker than posting an ad on CL.
ETA: Just saw your comment about the Twitter thing, and you make a good point. It might freak me out a bit too, so maybe not the way to go.

On pins and needles here - we’re getting SO close!

Maybe Woofnwhinney* can email her again since they have already established email contact and relationship? Maybe just tell her I am a friend of yours who lives closer?

I don’t feel like you are trying to “run this rodeo” - I think everyone is eager to help get this old lady to a happy forever home as soon as possible. It’s sweet and kind that people are so willing to get involved.

Unfortunately, we don’t know what else has been sent to this owner from readers of the thread earlier on. My gut feeling is that is probably why you aren’t getting a response.

My opinion is just keep doing what you are doing with the emails. I think the change in title to include the word “cash” is perfect.

Just keep us posted. Fingers crossed they get in touch with you.

Agreed. Waaaay too many people are emailing the owner!!! Please, don’t anyone else email her for anything just now!!! That goes for ME too, ALittleGray! LOL. And I’d say NO Twitter, attempts to phone, involve local people, or otherwise track her down/stalk/harass.

GIVE HER SOME TIME TO READ HER EMAILS!!! Really, even if she wants to move this mare quickly, MOST people do not live online like so many of us COTH’ers seem to do! And don’t forget this could well be a sixteen-year-old teen still in school most of the day, we don’t know. Or she may not have access to email at work, or doesn’t use a computer for work, or have very limited time available for checking email, or who knows what else.

The mare is not starving, apparently. She has hay and bags of food available to her, according to the owner. A few more days where she is currently is far better than spooking the owner so that she won’t deal with any of us.

I think a little patience in getting a response from the owner is the way to go.:cool:

Agreed, WoofNWhinny, let’s just give her some time to reflect now and decide what she wants to do. I think we’ve done all we can on our end at this point.

Shall we pop the popped corn and break open the wine while we wait?!

Whoever ends up with her, please pm me asap if you need me to trailer her. And, yes! To anyone that wants to ride shotgun with me. I will not pick her up alone.

^I’m happy to go along with you, and that way I can pay for the mare as well. We could meet at one of the fast food joints in opal and go from there. I can drag DH or my 16yo son along, too, Lol. I wouldn’t go alone either, for obvious reasons. Then I can show you where BnG lives to drop her off.

Excellent! I am still available as a “back-up”, but you would be best since you could take care of the $ exchange and know where B&G’s place is.

I’ve heard that “BBQ Country” at the Opal truck stop has fantastic highly-rated BBQ. Might be a great place to meet (plus, you know there would be spacious parking for a rig).

This is so exciting! Keeping my fingers crossed that we hear from the mare’s owner SOON!

No money and too far away to help but if anyone wants to go the twitter route I would be happy to do the tweeting- I can be pretty gosh darn diplomatic and I think I’d get a response :). PM me!

WOOT!!!

Email from the seller (who is a child or young teen, btw) letting me know she will talk to her parents and find out what is a good day and time to pick the mare up. She said she will get back to me ASAP. She also confirmed that the price for the mare will be $100.

YAY!

I will PM my paypal address to anyone who has said they want to donate.

PLEASE make a note on your donation WHAT you would prefer your funds be used for as well as your SCREEN NAME, lol. I will make a full public accounting of what comes in, when this is over. If you intend the funds for “gas and lunch for whoever does the trailering” please make sure you note things like that. The LAST thing I want is to have someone feel like their $$ was mis-used in any way.

Yay for the old tb mare, can’t wait to see her in her new home!!
