Ha! Maybe that’s why I like the olive and sage greens… because I’m in north/central Arizona. Not exactly sandy cactus land, but definitely no showing on grass. Anywhere.
I think this coat would look great with your horse. You probably aren’t going to find a pad that matches, but a sage green or tan pad (and maybe tan breeches too) would look good.
Our first show was a wonderful success! We scored a 69 and won our Intro C test and a 70 and a second place in our Intro B test. We went green, and the turnout turned out pretty good! I had a few people comment on my jacket
This is part of my issue, a lot looks really good with his coat!! I want to pick up a darker midnight navy/purple but haven’t quite found what’s in my mind on that.
Hmm, that could work. Probably safer to go with a darker version of the same color rather than trying for an exact match.
these two, add black and some gray…and voila!
(jmo: though i think it would look better on a black or dark bay than a chestnut)
OP, your turnout turned out great! The jacket and boots are perfection!
Mattes has an Olive color that looks pretty close. No shows for at least six months, so plenty of time for retail research
Wow! You did a fantastic job on the jacket! The boots look fabulous, and of course the most handsome boy looks fab! A very classy look!
This.
Congratulations on your show! Both you and your horse look beautiful.
Thanks all! It was a great first show for him! He seemed to know it was showtime. I’ve been out of showing for nearly 20 years myself and it was a great first show back for me too. I’m whooped today though!
B Vertigo had a “Beetle Green” last year that was pretty close…a darker olive with a hint of brown. Not sure if they have it this season but worth a look!
@outerbanks77 here’s another olive option:
If you can’t find an exact color match in a pad to match a jacket, it does look sloppy though. A way around it to get a white Mattes pad made with 2-3 rows of braid that combine to visually appear the same as the coat - if they don’t have an exact match.
In this case, you might find that better for another reason too - that olive shade is the same shade level as your horse, and a coat AND horse AND pad combined in the same shade level can appear kinda drab - see quick’n’dirty photoshop below! If the pad was white with olive binding, you’d have contrast, and if you picked up another color (like gold - a row of gold rope on the pad, gold stock pin, gold piping on stock, gold buttons on jacket etc) it’d be even more stunning. A nice alternative is an olive pad with white binding to pick up the breeches and stock tie.
Actually you know what’s amazing on a chestnut? Cream and gold. Pad, gloves, breeches, stock tie. And that works great with olive (or navy if you have a navy coat) too:
@Xanthoria This is amazing, thank you! (and I look so slender ) I do in fact have a navy coat, but it has silver piping. The white pad with green binding looks really nice. Of course I just got a vet bill and was reminded of how much their prices have gone up, so I probably need to hold off on the frivolous outfits at the moment. Plus I have new boots coming in “Cinnamon” with black accents, and I’m sure it will be tempting to design an outfit around those too, even though they’re supposed to be my schooling boots. Ha, at least I telework so I don’t spend $$ on office clothes any more.
Do you think that fabric paint would work on the piping to make it more in-line with the colours you are thinking? I also have a navy coat with silver piping for a bay with a gold undertone. I’d rather the piping be gold, but I love the coat…
Anyone tried fabric paint on coat piping?
Might be worth finding a seamstress to just replace the piping.
I could imagine painting piping would be tedious.
Looks very Cavalry-officer. Just needs a uniform hat instead of the helmet. Sort of General Patton.
