@Sfbayequine …yes …last fall(October 2023) had vet out to do fall vaccines & dental float …my 12yr old Dutch Wb mare got the Zoetis
Fluvac Innovator - EIV - EhV 1 & 4 lot#: 623269A. She was pre treated with Banamine due to being mildly reactive and previous laminitis history…later that evening was a bit dull and quiet …didn’t dive into her dinner like usual and took longer to finish …next day when brought in from overnight turnout laid down immediately upon going into stall and was flat…eventually got up and was again dull and very blah …took temp and had 102 fever …vet advised to give banamine and chalked it up to mild vaccine reaction …my mare continued to be very dull and lethargic , didn’t want to eat her meals and only picked at hay …this continued remainder of day and into next day …not any worse but not any better …fever returned next day so vet advised to give another single dose of Banamine …again about the same demeanor wise and only minimal manure output …fast forward to next day vet comes out and finds she now has an impaction colic -tubes her , another banamine dose …feeding small soaked mashes but still very little manure …this continues for 2 more days with vet out each day …finally do bloodwork and she had very high creatinine levels …took her to New Bolten Center where she spent 10 days in the ICU where they diagnosed Acute Kidney Injury …she received IV fluid therapy for several days , ultrasound of the kidneys revealed they were large and inflamed …her creatinine at time of admission was 5.6…it came down to 2.9 when we left and within a few weeks it was down to 2 then even went as low as 1.8! I now supplement her with Hilton Herbs Milk thistle plus gold , and I try to limit any feed or supplement with excess alfalfa, calcium and protein …it’s been almost a year but sadly her numbers are creeping back up and creatinine is at 3.4 , and new ultrasound revealed kidneys are smaller :disappointed: Good news is her appetite is good and her weight is more than it was last year. The vets as well as Zoetis refuse to believe that the vaccine caused this -although they say it’s possible

this is an article about acute kidney injury following several different vaccines in humans. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31696837/#:~:text=Most%20vaccines%20are%20safe%20to,pneumococcal%2C%20and%20hepatitis%20B%20vaccines.
I’ve got to think this is a mammalian problem and why wouldn’t it occur w horses? Plus how many people have horses who get sick after vaccines but don’t draw blood or follow up at academic centers? So those horses die or get euthanized without anyone knowing what happened. Maybe suspecting vaccine, maybe not. But they don’t make it into vet literature.

Update - creatinine continues to fall - 3.7 this morning!

I’m going to see her later today. We are planning on getting her home or to layup later this week. I didn’t think that was ever going to be possible.

I’ll wrap up this thread never she gets home with a bow on it. Starting to come out the other side I have “feelings”.

You all are amazing. I haven’t been on the board in a long time but so many of you sent such good advice and I read every comment.

Thank you for keeping me going when I was losing hope.

We had a great weekend. Hung with my gelding. I ent for a bike ride around Folsom Lake. There were some dinners and a lot of naps.

Just reading this, but curious about why you pulled creatinine before the vaccinations. Sorry if this has been asked already.
