Humourous sale ads...

Oh poo! Bumpkin, my observation was based on his performance in the Grand Prix. Not a pretty ride and in fact downright cringe-inducing.

If he is, in fact, a renowned American trainer/rider of hunters, then I stand corrected.

And on the photo pages, I actually saw someone put a sale picture in the California Horsetrader and the gelding was, no lie…peeing. They didn’t have any other picture to use!!![/B]<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I LOVE those! They so crack me up. In one of ours, someone put one in where the horse was pawing and it looked like it only had three legs. The ad shoud have read: Three legged horse, some vices, rescued from meat man, lost eye in trailering accident, goes by the name of “Lucky”.

These are so funny! Thanks for making my morning more interesting!

I get Horse & Hound from England every week and some of their adds are pretty funny - my favourite expression that is used all the time is:

“Horse is sold through no fault of its own”.

Yeah right.

Haha I’ve seen a lot of funny ads, I’ll post if I remember any of them to detail. But the MOST ANNOYING are the ads that go like this:

“WANTED: Sane, safe and sound gelding or mare. Between 15.3 and 16.3 hands that can jump. No older than 12 years. Show experience a plus. I am willing to pay $800. Please contact me at…”
Yeah, like I’m really gonna reply to that ad. Unless they forgot a zero
And let’s not forget the ads asking for a sound horse for FREE! Uhhh, not in this lifetime.

OH, I forgot about some of the really bad pictures in these ads.

The ones with the handler standing in front of the horse…between the horse and the camera? Are they trying to sell the horse or the girl?

Also the pictures of the horse just standing there…with the saddle and sometimes the rider, on it. OK, so it is ridable, but I want to see what you are hiding under that saddle…lol.

My favorite comment…no vices, then you get to the place and the horse’s paddock and stall are freshly chewed. Hmmm, guess that is just a funny thing he does…eating the barn and sucking wind?

OK guys, but from the other end, I have several well-built, great-jumping horses for sale, and I get: “do ya think the 3yr old can do the children’s hunters next season?” Actually, here’s a response to an ad about a horse that has lousy hock X-rays, she’s a homebred, and had an injury as a foal which caused excessive changes-she’s sound, and there haven’t been significant changes in the past 4 years—I put it in print, and I still get

why are you selling her? do you have any other photos? hw about any confirmation
faluts? Any reason she wouldn’t vet?

UUuuuggggghhh!!!

I saw this one a while back:
15.5 gelding, quiet, child safe, jumps, ALL VICES, Who’s gonna want this?

Look here Heidi

I understand what you are saying Medievalist
Kryswyn can relate, having JRT’s, that when I get calls or people coming to see a JRT puppy they are so “INTO MARKINGS”, so much so that it is sometimes hard to not laugh or be sarcastic.
So either the people placing the ad are just as “anal” or have had their share of “anal” buyers
A GOOD HORSE IS A GOOD COLOUR!!

One of the best I’ve ever seen was a LONG time ago in…where else…COTH. Picture of horse jumping - cute horse, nice, tight jumper - and some of the highlights in the description: jumps great - loves the feel of stomping something into the ground; consistent winner - ANYTHING to get away from home; mean, evil… SOMEBODY take her off my hands!
Well, we were about to call when the next issue arrived - and this killer beast was in it again - slightly different ad, with a price this time: $3500!!! This was like seeing one for $100,000 nowadays! We just sort of kept giggling over the original ad and occasionally wondered what happened to her.

My favorite waste of time looking at a horse…

I called regarding an ad that read:

“16+ hh leopard app gelding, green but easy, good jumper started o/f, make great field hunter for large man”

The owner seemed to be a little ignorant about horses in general and the animal wasn’t stabled too far away so we thought, what the heck and went to have a look. My husband - a lanky 6’4" - was looking for a greenie to replace “old & creaky jointed but reliable”. So we get to the lady’s house and find a…

15.2 VERY narrow racking horse that jumps with its knees pointing to the ground. It doesn’t canter - just racks (or something) faster & faster. It was a gelding and it did have spots. To this day I wonder if the woman was thinking to sell it as one of those hunting dog field trial horses…but I didn’t think they ever had to jump and that most of them were ridden western…

The seller was pretty nice though and didn’t seem to be interested in screwing anyone - just honestly didn’t have a clue…

I like the honesty of some sellers (tho I didn’t see it too often). I responded to an add for a 3 yr old TB filly. Some really old time Texan fellow who runs a string of local racers answers. I tell him it is for a teenager as a retraining project. He tells me
" You don’t want this horse. This here is the nastiest animal God ever created."
'Nuff said about that horse. I often wonder if he ever sold her.

OMG!!! We must be thinking of the same guy. Every now and then we get a horse from this older man (with some racers) as potential projects or school horses. We got one last week thats about 9, hideous as hell, and crazy. It “lunges” (in square formations), and it “trots real nice”(like a freight train), and it’ll be “a great kid’s horse” (in about 50 years). We’ve ridden it once (after it was turned out for 2 hours, then lunged) and it’s an okay horse, except for the fact that he doesn’t STEER or STOP. The guy is just like “Yeah, thats the way we train them”. Train who, the kids or the horses??? I’d like to see the Xena/Hercules kid who could ride this beast. And the man is very sweet and not trying to screw us over, he just doesn’t get it.

Okay one more favorite:

“Serious Inquiries Only”

Why don’t they just read

“People with Big Bucks only need apply”

My favorite-horse for sale. Asking $1,500.00
Will take a $1,000.00. No, please let me pay you an additional $500.00!

Curious . . . we always try to be truthful & understate the obvious on our horse sales website. Not all of our photos are of horses stretching their limits and I would certainly prefer to have some of them doing more than what is on the video, but a lot of it is also due to bad timing – i.e., the horse needs a light day of work when I am there with the camera.

I’m interested in your opinions of these captions . . . please have a look!

Kit - I want one!!! There are so many cuties!

If someone out there has the time to work with this horse you wouldn’’’'t be sorry…because he is a very willing horse. So, if you are interested in giving him a good home please let me know.

Willing to buck?

That’s not my ad! Honest!

Oh, and “From our jumper ring, the Missouri River is just visible” means…This place will surely flood. ;o)

Kit, I loved your site. The horses and facility are fabulous.

watches the cows? will look at cow?

nooo, it’s “looks like a cow”
oops, did we say at a cow?

I forgot one…I saw one the other day:

“16.3hh Hunter for Sale. Sadly Outgrown”

Is the growing child a giant?! What comes next after you outgrow a 16.3hh horse? A draft horse?
