I have to tell someone... finally under contract on a farm! 8 months later, it’s ours!

I’m so happy for you!

Thanks everyone for all the kind words! It means so much, especially after this ordeal.

I will share some pictures when I can. We still may not be totally done with some legal stuff and I don’t want to compromise that.

Exterior doors have been replaced, gates have been replaced, locks have been changed. Now to tackle the rest. We didn’t buy a foreclosure, but that’s basically the state it’s in, as the seller trashed it and got away with it.

Omg!!! Yes!!! Congratulations!!!

Am I the only one that is shocked that there are two people in the world who took the front door of the house? Even more shocked that we had two people here on COTH!

I know people in foreclosure do all kinds of spiteful things. I don’t get it, but I know it happens. But the freaking front door? It is big, bulky and not that valuable. What the heck.

Pasture gates, I totally get. Those suckers are weirdly pricey.

@Texarkana, Congratulations on getting into your place finally! So glad that nightmare is over and you can move on, making the place your own.

Congratulations, Texarkana! I have been checking this thread to see how your purchase was proceeding. What good news this is!

I totally get the whole karma thing. I can’t tell you how many times I have been chastened by karma over something I have said, thought, or done.

I hope your move goes well and you and your animals love the place.

Why am I posting on COTH instead of doing the 42 million things we need to do to get moved in?

You can’t even make this stuff up.

I am not usually a person in perpetual crisis, but 2021 has been a year for the books.

On Thursday, I was getting my son ready for daycare and did his required temp check. He had a fever. No other symptoms. My husband graciously took PTO to stay home with him.

Friday morning, his fever persisted. I stayed home with him and made a doctor’s appointment for him. I figured it would be yet another ear infection. Nope, covid positive. :woman_facepalming:

Good news is my son is not very sick. I hope it stays mild. My husband and I are fully vaccinated and neither of us are showing symptoms. But this sure puts a monkey wrench in our plans.

For example, we were going to have a cleaning service come in and deep clean, since the sellers left it in filth. We can’t do that for at least 10 days. My mom was going to babysit this weekend so we could work removing trash, tending repairs, and getting it horse ready again. That can’t happen. Both of us need to be covid tested- do you have any idea how hard that has become since the state facilities have scaled back to almost nothing??? I have a test today, but it’s over an hour away. My husband snagged the last local appointment for tomorrow.

The silver lining is maybe I will have some time to tackle projects during the week while we are stuck home quarantining my toddler.

Sheesh. Thanks for letting me vent yet again.

Oh no!! I am so sorry. 2021 seems to be the year that keeps delivering hit after hit… I hope your son continues being asymptomatic (besides fever) and you and hubby are negative!!

My kid is completely fine now. I started coming down with symptoms late in the day on Saturday. Since then I’ve felt like I have a head cold with headache, congestion, and cough. My husband is still symptom free.

Neither of us have gotten our test results back yet.

So happy for you about the house finally closing!

And hoping that your bout with illness is just a glancing blow that’s over quickly.

Oh so glad you got in so sorry COVID has delayed things. Glad you are vaxed. Heal soon.

OMG! So glad you guys are doing okay so far. Just think how much you will appreciate this farm after all the hurdles you had to clear to move into it!

Testing availability is a real issue. Months ago it was quite easy to get tested and now you’re lucky to get an appointment in a few days. My perception is that the start of the school year has made appointments more scarce. My stepdaughter was exposed at school last week and they leave it up to the parents to get the kid tested and decide whether they need to quarantine (if vaccinated–the unvaccinated are required to quarantine). Well, we couldn’t get her a test appointment for days and had to search multiple websites to find that one appointment. The local private schools have much better on-site testing protocols in place.

Compare to early August when we all got tested before visiting grandparents and there were an abundance of testing appointments at CVS, results within 24 hours for the PCR test.

It’s funny you should post this @Libby2563 because I just got off the phone with the state contract tracing people.

I got tested Saturday. It was the only appointment I could find and it was over an hour away. Now the contract tracing people told me that there is no record of my test in the system (apparently even if it was still pending it would be in their system) and I need to get tested again. :woman_facepalming:

I checked the local pharmacies and there is nothing! The closest appointments in the next 48 hours were in DC, northern VA, NJ!

Tomorrow is my local health department’s weekly testing, and luckily they had one slot left. But now someone else who needs it won’t get their test, because I’m using the spot for a second test since my first went missing.

The private school I was at last year had weekly pool testing. We definitely don’t have that at the public school.

I am feeling really lousy on top of all this. I lost my sense of smell yesterday and that is just WEIRD. Otherwise I feel like I have a bad cold.

Can I catch a break this year?!? Sure, things could be worse, but oh my gosh could something just work out like it is supposed to for once???

Argh, seriously?? That’s infuriating!! I bet a lot of less responsible people would just say screw it at that point and not go back for the second test. It’s ridiculous at this point in the pandemic that testing is not easily available, and meanwhile transmission is high in 95% of the country.

The main reason I need the test is for work. I am also burning through all of my PTO, since my workplace no longer covers quarantine unless it can be proved through contact tracing that you were exposed to covid at work. I’ve been at my job less than a year and don’t have a ton of time saved up.

No clue how close you are to Charles Town WV but you mentioned DC. They do drive up testing at the Hollywood Casino race track, no appt needed. Takes about 5 minutes for the testing.

Thanks @luvmyhackney but I’m on the eastern shore of MD!

Yeah, that’s a haul. Hopefully you find testing available in your area.
