I have to tell someone... finally under contract on a farm! 8 months later, it’s ours!

Touch wood, she is doing well. Thanks for asking! Although I’m wondering if all of this borrowed time she lives on is starting to catch up with her. I’m noticing subtle changes, nothing major and certainly nothing that would say it’s her time. At 27 with her history, it’s surprising she doesn’t have more issues.

I am worried the move will not be easy on her. She is very attached to her “home” here at the farm we rent and the landlord’s horse and donkey, who are not coming with us. Plus she has lost vision in one eye since we have been here, so there is going to be an extra steep learning curve figuring out her new digs.

Oh yes the horse with 9 lives. Maybe the others will balance it out…

Maybe I should have had Mr. Texarkana pee on her years ago.

I wouldn’t want Mr Texarkana to take a hoof to the head though lol

Welcome to my world, my sense of smell decided to leave about 15 or so years ago, I should be used to it, but it still gets me every now and again.

Hope yours returns to normal, and enjoy every day that it works!

All the issues, contract & covid and your phone died too - you must be tough as nails !
Jingles for some easier days !

Quote function has been only working intermittently for me lately.

@KBC 15 years?!? How frustrating! What happened, I you don’t mind me asking?

@BUSY This year… it’s always something. Nothing like your phone dying when you have every health department trying to reach you and you can’t go anywhere.

Adding to the fun- our brand new John Deere zero turn arrived last week. My husband was mowing on Saturday when there was a loud BANG in the engine and flames started shooting out the exhaust. :woman_facepalming:

Dealer is picking it up today. I would imagine warranties would cover repairs, but I’m worried how long it will take. What is up with our luck?!?

But otherwise, things are slowly coming along. I haven’t been able to tackle any of the horse facilities with a sick toddler in tow. Kid is out of quarantine, but his daycare doesn’t reopen until Wednesday. I’m also in quarantine until Wednesday. (my test came back positive, as if there was any question.) This weekend friends and family are coming to help, so hopefully we will be able to knock out some of the big projects.

My brand new JD S130 mower came with a faulty oil canister, it has this fancy quick change thing…alas, there was no O ring. I lost power and turned it off before I blew up the motor on it by running it out of oil. Is that what happened to yours? Bought at lowes, serviced by Tri Green… they got it fixed timely then destroyed my dry river bed runoff situation by running over a couple of massive rocks and dragging them a few feet. What the hell y’all. Drive on the GRAVEL not on the GRASS.

@Djones yikes! I don’t know if that’s what happened to ours. Maybe. :woman_shrugging: The dealer picked it up today but they haven’t told us anything yet.

Some good news: the quote for the pool fence came in about $500 under the number I had in my head. That was a pleasant surprise.

@Texarkana it sounds like you and your husband are feeling better from the activity going on. Hope that’s the case.

I love to hear updates on your farm, especially after all you went through to get it. A few photos would be lovely, but I know that not everyone wants to part with their personal privacy and you may not want to be posting pictures of your place for whatever reason. But barn and horse facility projects are so fun to indulge in from my armchair! It’s a dream.

I hope your projects are coming along the way you want them to.

Thanks for asking @PeteyPie!

I could go the toxic positivity route and say everything is coming along! Or I can tell you the truth and you guys can all think I’m the biggest drama magnet on the planet. I swear 2021 is a cursed year.

I would love to share photos. But we still aren’t done with legal headaches so I’m worried about jeopardizing that. That’s the only reason I’ve been hesitant to share pics. I haven’t even posted pictures on my friends only social media for the same reason.

I’m late to the party and this is off topic, but I saw that you were using up days for work waiting for test results. A law was passed which requires companies to provide up to 2 weeks (80 hours) sick leave to care for a child with covid or if one has covid. i am a business owner and have honored this for people exposed and awaiting test results. I’m curious why your employer doesn’t have to follow this.

‘what a complete and utter shit life is !’ sometimes ~ hoping your ‘sometimes’ is over soon ~

My understanding is this expired. Even the link you posted said it expired December 31, 2020, but I believe they extended it beyond that for a few more months.

When we returned to the office August 2021, they made it 100% clear quarantine was no longer covered by federal law.

it was extended to Sept 30, 2021…and has not been renewed or extended as Congress wonders around trying to spend $5Trillion on other pet projects

So it should have covered some QT

the employer had to met certain and specific requirements and then app;y for the tax credit refund… some employers have had enough dealing with government programs to not wish to enter into another

this particular law did not have to do with the tax credit as far as I was advised by counsel. i was advised recently (summer) i had to honor it even when the same person had an exposure prior year and took almost two weeks then too.
no tax credit here. Maybe it’s also due to size. this covers the 500 and under employees. over 500 different set of criteria with which i am not familiar

I’m not sure how many employees we have but I would imagine over 500. We are a county school system.

I think FMLA comes into play at that point and that is a bigger rigmarole.

anyway, totally off topic, but I obviously have a stake in these rules. As an employer, I’ve decided keeping my employees healthy during the pandemic is a top priority, especially those essential workers without the luxury of working from home, and have erred on the side of conservative when dealing with exposures, etc.
