Impressive Barns/Stables

It is very impressive! The only thing that shocked me is how cold it is. It is one of the coldest barns I’ve ever been in. I know heated barns aren’t the best for the horses, but I was surprised that the people who board there don’t complain - (although I guess most of them are in warm sunny florida and only the help is left up north to freeze! )

I’ve been to some Arabian barns that are incredibly impressive! I’ll post the links!

I also agree with Iron Spring Farm being impressive, with such beautiful horses!

Just saw the website.

I know some human seniors that would love to live in that retirement barn!

Mr. Mellons’s Barn and Paige Johnson’s Barn (Salamander Farm)

ohmygod. i once went on the Hunt Country Stable Tour (in Middleburg), and all of the barns were impressive, but those barns were the two most impressive barns. Mr. Mellon’s barn was immaculate, and there was not a horse poop to be seen. in addition, it also smelled really nice
Salamander Farm was also really beautiful. i was so jealous that Paige’s parents built her an exqiusite barn complete with an indoor ring and viewing area. i heard that the barn’s getting renovated, but i’m not completely sure about that. anyway, those were the two barns in which i wouldn’t mind sleeping in a stall

Boyfriends come and go… Horses are forever

The former Marshall Field (III) estate, Caumsette, near Oyster Bay has magnificent stables which I know are still operating in some capacity under the Parks Department.

Richard Mellon had some of the most attractive stone stables to be found in Rolling Rock, PA. They were unfortunately converted into condos in the mid 1980’s, but look rather unchanged today.

F. Ambrose Clark, the consumate horseman, had numerous world-class stables up and down the eastern seaboard. His Broad Hollow estate on Long Island is now SUNY at Old Westbury. However his truly beautiful stables at Iroquois Farm in Cooperstown, NY remain untouched.

Oh, and don’t forget Shelburne Farms in Vermont. Truly breathtaking! see their on-line site

Wow, I can’t believe no one has mentioned Oldenburg Farm. It’s a stunning facility. Check out their website!

Roberts Quarter Horses in Ocala!!!
I didn’t get to take the tour but we would take a drive past it once or twice a week and wow what a place

On the main gate there is a sign that goes

May the horses that pass through these gates be well taken care of.
May they be loved as much as they were here.
If not god
May they enter back into these gates where they will find love and happiness Untill your hand comes to take them home.

It brought tears to my eyes everytime.

I have been through all the barns at Rokeby several times, and they are truly the best to me.
Not over the top, but very, very nice.
Several of the other barns in the Middleburg/ Upperville are gorgeous also. Like Langollen,(spelling).

Merry,I wonder what happened to Cynthia Woods barn in Santa Barbara?
When that barn was built it was a real showplace.
My Great Uncle had a huge impresseive brick barn for his racehorses North of Sacramento when he was President of the Olive Growers about 100 years ago. He lived in some huge house on Nob Hill, he bought from the man who built Santa Anita. Pre Earthquake, where he lost the whole thing.

The stable we had in Europe was awesome, huge with the brass rails etc… very much like the USET barn at Hamilton Farm. Only bigger.

Ok, I’ll try to post this picture I took of F. Ambrose Clark’s stables at his Iroquois Farm.

Quiet Hill Farm in Ocala is absolutely gorgeous!! There are a million gorgeous old oaks draped w/ Spanish moss, everything is immaculate, horses are sparkling, etc…I tried several horses there and my trainer is friends w/ Christina and Bobby so we go over there during the winter.

Pleasant Hill Farm in Alpharetta is also awesome! I swear to god you could eat off the floor b/c the aisle gets blown 3-4x a day, soaped 2-3x a week, etc…The facility is gorgeous, plus I live next door so I can go visit whenever!

Calumet Farm in Lexington, KY is pretty amazing. I really liked GM’s Hunterdon, especially the grounds- I loved riding on the outside course, very fun. Private barn: Golden Hind Farm in Millbrook, NY.

Coole Park Farm in Millbrook NY is pretty amazing. It used to be the Millbrook Equestrian Center (I think), but they razed that and built an incredible new barn complete with mirrored arched walls that give the look of a never ending aisle, and imported (possibly Belgian) block floors. It is beautiful. And there is an Arabian farm around there too that looks nothing short of stupendous from the road, but that’s as far as I have ever gotten!

the photos take a while to load, but their worth seeing. look at their photo gallery. I want, I want, I want!!!

wow , there are some nice barns

“If all goes well, you’ve overlooked something.”
“Humpty Dumpty was pushed.”

What is the best stable you have been to? What made it so special?

(I have mono and so I’m home for a while…therefore all the senseless topics )

In my hometown of Walnut, CA. The pictures from the website aren’t great, but check out the apartment above the barn:

Brookside Equestrian

They filmed “National Velvet” here and its again available for filming. The current owners supposedly own a landscape company, so I guess that’s why it looks like a park! I’m grateful that they allow the local trail riders here, but we definitely look out of place when we come through

Shelburne farm is amazing. I wish i was rich

Spring Creek Equestrian Center in Jackson Hole, WY.

Because I’m doing some background research for a possible book on really outrageously beautiful barns/stables (for any breed or discipline). They must be the type that really lend themselves to gorgeous photographs, kind of storybook settings.

Keep the suggestions coming! I’m taking notes!

lauriep - actually Winter Place Farm is still in existence. Wicomico County of Maryland now owns it and operates part of it as an equestrian center. The main barn is still in use and the three rings around the barn are used. We have horse shows there starting in April and run through September. There is an AHSA rated Dressage show there on May 5-6, 2001. In June there is also a MHSA A rated three day hunter/jumper show with a Mini-Prix on Sunday.

Unfortuneately, it is nowhere near as pristine and beautiful as it once was. The pictures that I have seen are absolutely exquisite!

If you find the article - I would love to get a copy of it for the scrapbook for the Equestrian Center records.

Thanks!
Janel

That sounds like it only the one I read was about European stables. Fantastic book, perhaps the same author?

I spent the morning searching but no luck (no author or title makes it difficult)
