Is anyone Wearing Rust-Colored Breeches in the Hunter Classes
They are allowed and rulebook acceptable. They are “out of style” and you will be the only one wearing them. It’s up to you :D
There are always a few people who wear them, although its true they are not the most popular color. I have been to the Hampton Classic several times this week and I can’t tell you how tired I am of tan breeches/navy jacket, they look like a herd of sheep. And I like tan/navy, just not on everyone!

Personally I love rust and have several pairs, although I haven’t shown in years.

Maybe there needs to be a National Rust Breeches week or something. So people at shows all over can pop up in a class or two riding in them. :)
National Rust Breeches Day 2014!!! Set it up!

For them to really ‘come back’ for showing not just schooling, I think it will take a well known rider to wear them similar to the ‘Green Jacket’ trend again.

But if you want to wear them, go rock the rust.

I love rust. However, what people seem to forget (for many, many years) was that rust was always an INFORMAL color, and was to be paired with a tweed or brown/green coat and brown field boots.

In the 80s, we were all wearing them with black boots and navy or hunter green coats, but they still were not really acceptable for classics - that was beige or canary.

So where do you get brown BOOTS, is what i want to know… (I do not need a $500 green herringbone tweed jacket from Horse Country Store for hacking around the farm fields…I do not need…no matter how nifty it would look with my Crosby PDN Sovereign and Lucky’s roached mane…or a brown with gold and rust windowpane tweed…someone please stop me browsing this site…)

Lol, Horse Country does have lovely - and $$ - stuff!

I have gotten brown boots off of eBay, at the Middleburg Tack Exchange, and a pair custom-made in Argentina. Also, of course, Dehner, Der Dau, Vogel, La Mundial, etc all make custom brown boots. And Horse Country has them as well!

Ariat is doing brown boots these days… Dover has 'em.

ah yes, rust, grey, and puke green TS when I was growing up. Showed my chestnut pony in my rust jods and hunter green coat. Totally rocked it and plan to when my showing ability starts again.
I saw a trainer one year at Devon in the young hunter u/s class rocking them on a bay. And in a sea of fancy moving bays, it caught someone’s attention b/c they ended up 8th. Grey brown coat and a nice yellow that matched very well shirt. Looked really great. It was awhile ago, but I remember because it stood out so much.

I see rust every now and again and it makes me glad. I would love to see Maddy Schaffaer in a pair with her brown helmet. Oh! Sophia Calamari who just won overall green pony/champion small greens at pony finals – Ive seen photos of her in Welly world rocking the rust with her brown helmet and fire red hair. Love it. Dare to stand out!

There are several brown boot threads if you’re interested.

I have a pair of brown boots that I wear for lessons and hacking. I wouldn’t personally show in them, but here are my suggestions for brown boot sources. If you want custom, La Mundial are just beautiful. Ariat now makes the Challenge boot in brown. And if you want a less expensive, off the shelf boot try the Divoza.com web site and check out the Mondoni boots. I have a couple pairs; one solid brown pair and one black pair with very subtle brown piping. They don’t have the same amazing fit that the custom boots do but the leather is soft, they’re stylish, and the price can’t be beat even after the shipping charges.

I just ordered a pair of the tailored sportsmen. I did not need them. I did not know I wanted them until I read this thread. I would not have gotten around to ordering them on my own but there was a link. I blame you. (and that is what I’m going to tell my husband.)

LOL! That’s as good an excuse as any. You will love them.

I know it seems like lots of people like them. I wish some of the show ring Veteran, Ribbon Ho types would start wearing them again. I am way too dorky to be a trend-setter-LOL
LOL!!! Perfect!!! ^

I rode in the 80’s and it was called brick color then. I do wear them for schooling  I think they look good on everyone…

My brick/rust in action - https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=563886850323069&set=vb.100001052770584&type=3&theater

So once my horse is back to work (a bit of a lameness hiatus) I will practice and if I can put a good, consistent round down - I will wear the brick/rust in the show ring.

I am SO tempted by some…because I LOVE them. Heck I ride a big champagne gelding. We are already loud. I may have to find some that wouldn’t be too terrible on him because…those things don’t show dirt. And I’m Pigpen.

If I can ever find a pair of rust breeches that fit me well enough, I would show in them. 'Course, I’m a nobody, so it wouldn’t make a difference, but whatever.

The Redwood color looks like a very blue red. It’s bordering on bordeaux. Closer to the old Harry Hall color than the old TS color from yesteryear. I did always like the deeper rust over the brick.

Tuff Rider Ribbed in '03. Not really show appropriate breeches, but you work with what you have.

Early 80’s Harry Hall’s worn in 2002. I still have them, but thanks to fears of 30+year old stitching giving away at inopportune moments, they don’t get worn.

I like the second pair of custom riding apparel breeches…does anyone have them/how do they fit?
I have them. I’m regularly an Ariat Pro Circuit wearer. The Custom Riding Apparel breeches fit me TERRIBLY. It makes me super sad. The thighs are super tight and then the waist has enough room for another person in there with me. But, they are rust, so I sacrifice.

My daughter, Sophia Calamari wears rust all the time. She’s worn rust jods since her leadline days, which are really hard to find, along with her various brown helmets over the years. Now she wears rust with her brown GPA First Lady (it helps keep the number of freckles down. lol) and brown Parlanti tall boots. I can’t find a recent picture with the tall boots, but here is one from WEF 12 when she was champion in rust jods with a moss green coat. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10201824054351435&set=pb.1484703425.-2207520000.1409674390.&type=3&theater

It’s a totally legit rust. And I rode my chestnut in breeches that color all the time, back in the day.
I’ve had quite a few pairs of rust breeches and the tone varied from really orange to this deeper redwood color. I adored the deeper colored one. I rode in them in the early '90s with a deep forest green jacket and Vogel field boots. I thought they were spiffy.

Bummed I can’t see the pictures. Can you make them “public”? Sounds cute.
