Amazed this was LP… she looked like an inept twit… which she may well be. there was certainly a lack of anything resembling horsemanship…
To me the Parelli’s are two people with a really good publicist… and they need it.
Well after reading all this - I have a confession to make…Ready? Okay here it is: I think Clinton Anderson is a total hottie! I also love the stuff he says - he totally cracks me up.
Now please note - I’ve haven’t said anything about his training abilities.
You are now free to begin flaming me…
LOL!!
Please post pictures that made you feel he was a hottie, so that we may concur? All in professional, horse related interest, of course.

I have pretty much ignored this thread since it came up, other than to watch the video, and send it to a friend to ask what she thought of it…but I feel like responding now.
I will admit it, I “do” parelli. I have studied it since about 2004 or 2005. I still compete, I still use a bit, my horses are shod if they need it, I take lessons on a regular basis, I even gasp barrel race along with showing IHSA and doing dressage. Not all parelli students drink the “kool-aid” if you want to put it that way. Parelli has not helped my equitation or things like that, but what it has helped is my horsemanship and solving every day problems that come up.
Even as a parelli student, I think the situation was handled ineffectively, however, what you don’t see is the before and after of this situation. This was filmed in 2005 I believe, and the Parelli’s, especially Linda, have come a long way in their horsemanship since then. I am NOT defending Linda’s actions in the video, but I feel horribly for Linda. This was filmed 5 years ago, and I know that if now she was placed in the same situation it would have been handled differently.

pft, shows what you know!
it’s liek the total compliment to liek luving on da pony and stuff, liek you know…
:lol::lol::lol::lol:
It’s another religion…like RK and PP…
When I got my young horse, I told my regular farrier, “He’s barefoot…” and before I could finish, my farrier said “Let’s try to keep him that way as long as possible.” When I could no longer use that farrier a year or so later, I got recommendations, again for a “regular” farrier. I called him, told him my horse was barefoot, said I wanted to keep it that way if possible, not talking Strasser, saying “need a barefoot trim, not pasture trim.” Guy says, “Sure, I go by the Cavalry Manual.” Say what? Yup. He’s a Civil War re-enactor. When he was ill and I had a ta-dah certified barefoot trimmer do my horse a couple of times, she said she would change nothing in the way he was being trimmed by my “Cavalry farrier.” ROFLOL
Kewl!
I read a story of a German WWII General of a cavalry unit who managed to keep his horses sound by doing barefoot whenever possible. I am sure conserving irons was part of the reasoning but I found it interesting.
(of course I also heard the story of a cavalry soldier, in the morning they rode the horses into the water in France, in the evening they unloaded the train near the eastern front and by the end of the week ate cooked oats…)
Thanks for that viewpoint. I am referring to CR Gorge Girl’s comments. I did kind of roll my eyes at the ‘I am NOT defending Linda’s actions in the video, but I feel horribly for Linda. This was filmed 5 years ago, and I know that if now she was placed in the same situation it would have been handled differently.’ precisely because I highly doubt she would do anything differently at all.
I do not have any sympathy for Linda whatsoever. If she did not know, by 2005, that her conduct did not constitute good horsemanship, I doubt she has learned it by now. She is such a twit it boggles my mind how anyone can excuse her behavior, idolize or wish to emulate her.
Concur. What we can see in the video is someone who was not ready or qualified to teach anyone anything about horses. What were they thinking when they put that footage into a training video?
The Parellis deserve all the heat they’re getting for this. Linda wasn’t competent then, and I doubt she’s competent now.
If she knew so little in 2005 what the heck was she doing teaching it? And why didn’t she say so when she made her rebuttal - nooooooo - just justified her actions. Where is her kindness when she was handling the poor one-eyed guy who had no idea what Parelli training was all about. Also, if you want to understand your horse, there are lots of legitimate trainers who can teach - PP is not the God of horsemanship…Blech…but of course, each to their own.

Okay here are some links to a pic and a video for those of you who aren’t familiar with Clinton Anderson. The man just looks good on a horse (and in jeans!) JMO

He seems to be alot more “to the point” and without the “fluff” and theatrics of the P’s. But I’m not judging either way - to each his own.
I suppose if you are watching for the visual…

Um…well…yeah…that’s the point :lol::lol::lol:
The horse isn’t so bad either!
Hey, where’d he get Curly’s hat!
You feel horribly for Linda? I don’t. She and Pat are laughing all the way to the bank, at the expense of decent but naive human beings and a lot of horses who deserve better.
Their ‘horsemanship’ has come a long way since 2005? Were they not, in 2005, charging substantial fees for their professional instruction? I thought even back then they were supposed to be the ‘experts.’ Now you are telling me they’ve been in a ‘God is calling me home unless you send more money’ mode, and that people are supposed to pay them tons of money so they can learn to be better horsemen.
Sorry, not working for me. Suddenly I have a mental image of Tammy Faye’s fake eyelashes.

I do for the horse and for those who get suckered in (to some extent - though people are big enough and daft enough to look out for themselves!).
The Parellis have been marketing themselves and selling stuff purporting they’re great horse trainers since before that film was made. OK you could say that she just hung on to his coat tails but you said it yourself… you PAID to buy into their training programme before that video was made. It was a video that was SOLD to people. The video is testament to the fact that she’s no horse trainer and doesn’t even understand them and for sure she doesn’t give horses any respect.
Seems to me she doesn’t care for the horse and isn’t too concerned for her clients either. She’s merely marketing “Linda” and making money from it and so long as she’s doing that then she’s perfectly content.
I’d say that she’s not apologetic at all for her actions and neither is she even correct in her explanation and interpretation with hindsight of what the situation was or what she was doing. She’s merely on the defensive and talking total tripe to try to justify her actions which were bad and there for all to see.
Clunk, giggle, thwack, giggle, smack, giggle on a quiet horse standing patiently waiting whilst it’s on a line. And smacking it with a rope round it’s head and under it’s chin so it’s compelled to lift it’s head high and move away because it’s not got a clue what the dozey woman wants! It’s standing quietly and she’s giving it a load of mixed messages. She not training it! She’s teaching it a whole load of things that in time manifest as serious problems and with the consequence of “spoilt horse”. Fortunately that one is a saint. The fact he only had one eye and couldn’t see half of what the silly cow was doing was possibly a blessing in disguise.
Why the heck didn’t she just quietly walk up to it’s chest and place her hand in the middle and push gently whilst saying “back” and moving the horse that way.
Oh I know!.. she wouldn’t have looked like wonder woman taming the wild beast! NOT!!!
I just looked at their site, and low and behold they’re allowing even the people who disagree with them post remarks-well kudos to them for that!
Someone is actually editing. Posts are being removed that are well reasoned and calling out her “method”

This. Exactly. Thank you Thomas.

I’m not so sure. Her defensive posture and words on the “explanation” video tell me she would do the very same thing all over again. She apparently feels what she did was correct and that her naysayers “just don’t get it”.
She would have been MUCH smarter to have used the tactic that you alluded to in your post - eat some crow, admit she mishandled the situation, and then explain how it could have been done differently and more effectively.
I believe this video has done some irreparable damage to her reputation.

Exactly.
The worst of this is that they were told all along that some of what they were doing and teaching was rough and that good horsemen would not go for it and they ignored those comments all these years.
I m glad that part is finally seeing the light, is in the public eye, so they may rethink what they do, because it does hurt horses to be treated like that, even if, as I was told time and again, “the higher levels is where we teach to handle horses with finesse”.
This video is not an isolated incident.
That goes on at some level in some of their clinics, I have seen it and saw one person leave the clinic after her older TB was also treated like that horse in the video by a Parelli certified clinician.
I think that habituation is pervasive.
The boss does it, everyone does it, so it is ok.
They have always done it, they are the ones running the show and so they won’t listen to anyone else.
They think they already handle horses so well, they are above reproach.
Anyone objecting is an idiot and can’t see how great they are.
See that reflected in the posts defending LP.
Talk about clueless.
So what if some of what they do is to continuously irritate and at times over the top rough up horses, like in that video.
“Horses can take it, because horses beat each other up regularly and that is how humans should act to be understood by horses, like another horse”.
That is how they excuse doing some of what they do.
I have watched what they do from the start, gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking their fallings were part of a learning curve, their basic idea of teaching as they were doing a great one.
Well, somehow they never stepped up to be what they promised, the learning never did happen, their ideas got more and more bizarre.
Today it is evidently to anyone not paying to learn from them, the rest of the horse world, that their excellent initial idea of standarizing basic horse handling and riding, sorely needed in the USA, ended up being the strange side show it is today.
They have been “remodeling” their program all along, like quitting bashing dressage so mercilessly and rudely for so many years.
Maybe their next effort at improving their system will perhaps bring some common sense to their now rather way out there programs.

Indeed.
Anybody can have a “monday.” We’ve all done it; we’ve all regretted it (if we have a brain). Her appologia has more holes than a good Swiss cheese. She should get over herself, already.
A couple of years ago I was at an event and the trailer display was right next to the “Parelli Ring.” We spent 45 min. looking at trailers and listening to Pat and Linda mutually “massaging” each others’ egos in front of an adoring crowd. In reality Pat is no more than an average trainer with a really good PR crew; Linda is an average rider who has a good PR crew.
You can learn more by spending $100 or so buying the videos and text book used at the old Ft. Riley Cavalry School (available at the U.S. Cavalry Association website) than you will spending thousands with these people. Folks are free to spend their money as they wish, but maybe Proverbs is appropriate, here: A fool and his money are soon parted.
