Yes. Boyd delivered! Can Oliver keep them all up?

Never mind. My statement was completely false. I thought I had heard the commentators say that.

We have our first US 5* winner since 2008!!! Congrats Boyd!!!

So deserved! And what a person to take the very first running of Maryland!

Woo hoo, go Boyd! Great sport. Kenny K did a really good job on the course, I thought. I was worried after the first few it wasn’t hard enough, but it was plenty challenging while being fair.

It really was exciting. Well done to everyone, all the volunteers and sponsors and staff, as well. Looked just a gorgeous event. You should all be delighted with what you’ve accomplished.

Okay, now for me to try to grab a two-hour nap before the school run begins. But it was worth pushing through to watch it happen live!

You are right, it wasn’t a true rotational fall. I actually think if there hadn’t of been a slope on the opposite side he might have been able to recover himself and at least the horse wouldn’t have fallen. But between the speed they were going and that hill behind them, it just worked out poorly.

It’s interesting because of all the jumps on course it was one of the simplest.

I was surprised at how the owl holes rode. I thought they would have a refusals at the first one, but it turned out the distance to that second one was a bit long and a lot of horses looked a little shocked when they actually got in there and realized it was wider than it appears.

I did record it. If anyone wants to see it I’ll PM them a copy, but I don’t want to post it here as it literally made me want to puke when I saw it.

I see all the lovely halters on the podium. Is that yourself handing them out?

So many US riders had great rides and results.

I am disappointed with the Canadian results. Jess Phoenix had an exceptionally good dressage test, but a lot of time penalties on XC, on a course where 25% of the riders were able to complete double clear. and then a disasterous stadium

Hawley and Karl were also disappointing (for all I know, 1 or both intentionally went slow on XC, but then also had 2 and 3 rails in stadium)

Honor Me is normally an XC machine, but had 2 refusals

Colleen was not entered, but her Quorry horse may be at or near the end of his upper level career

I know this is only one event, but I cannot imagine any of these horse/rider combinations going to WEG 2022
:frowning:

and all three of our 3*** riders did not complete XC.

i would be thrilled if someone can provide a more positive opinion of the canadian results and future.

Lingh was ridden by Edward Gal and then sold to Karin Offield.

No data

Yes I know that. And I think she stood him here in the US for a while and then sent him overseas to stand. Perhaps to Sweden? But he was never promoted as an eventing sire, just as a dressage sire. He does have some TB blood on the bottom and it is good jumping blood as well - Lucky Boy and Fighting Don besides Flemingh actually being Holsteiner by birth. Still who would have thunk - him being an eventing sire. It actually worked with the mare he was bred to though!

Canada doesn’t have much depth right now for sure. Jessica is a world class rider but I’m not sure Bogue Sound is a world class horse. He seemed out of his comfort zone today.

So pleased for Boyd after his fall at Kentucky and bobble in dressage in Tokyo, he needed a break.
