Kelly Farmer Additional Suspension

LCF is a pretty successful broker of imported horses, and when that happens the typical business model is that the horse has a pretty limited time in the program before it is sold (the better you are at picking prospects people want, the shorter the time you own it). Only a few horses stay and go on to the Derby program, most are sold. So what people are buying is Larry’s phenomenal connections and eye fro a great hunter, ideally before it gets too LCF’d

The sad thing is trainers and many owners know exactly what program they are buying from and yet…

Somebody ought to bump up that Amber Eyes thread…don’t have time today to go looking.

I’d say that is part of the problem. People dip their hand in the puddle and don’t think they are getting dirty. But it keeps it active. Owners don’t know because they don’t want to know, naivete/willful ignorance or plausible deniability. Other professionals are enabling that behaviour, even in a quick in and out purchase.

“…for there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so” and people choose to not think.

Thanks DMK, findeight, and midstride for explaining that. I’ll see if I can find the Amber Eyes topic. I don’t recall it and I’m up for some reading today.

Thanks for reviving the Amber Eyes thread…maybe it time for bringing back the PV thread too…lots of newbies out there.

And it’s too dam cold for much else then curling up with some good reading and a toddy.

ETA, there’s another Amber Eyes thread…the one where she won the Pre Green thing that year with LCF…after a name change and being shown to too levels in Eventing. I haven’t figured out the search on the new format yet.

I believe I found the thread you’re thinking of, findeight. It’s been bumped now.

The Ingram family still owns her. She shows under the name Fonteyn.

For those of you who can’t read the facebook comment, it’s a snow day and I have nothing better to do…

I love the name Kodafrey (?? not sure on this word ??)! I’m so happy Foster is now living and showing with my dear friend, Holly Shepherd. They are an excellent pair. Wishing them great success in 2018.
Onto the other “elephant in the stable”, horse’s (sic) needing drug rehab after leaving Lane Change. I must now be the voice for my Mindful. He experienced about three weeks of very serious and dangerous symptoms of drug withdrawal after leaving that barn. I had, and still have, no idea what drugs or cocktails of drugs my horse may have had. All I know, is that Mindful suffered through a very difficult three weeks.
I feel very fortunate to have been able to relocate this very special horse to a new, safe home. He is now respected, managed with great, conscientious care, ridden beautifully, is shown moderately and fortunately (??), is enjoying, on his own, a lovely life. I’m having a blast riding him since I bought him outright mid June 2014. Thank you to everyone at Ocean Echo for helping this terrific animal “kick the habit”! Wishing all my horse show friends a safe, fun and fulfilling 2018!

I laughed out loud at this one!!:lol: I think there needs to be a space between the LC & the F though…

Thank you for posting this where all can read it. Still cannot believe this is not the single most inflammatory piece of information on this thread. Maybe that’s because I already knew the rest of it but had no idea about the Mindful WD’s

findeight, if it’s not the Loophole thread I bumped, you may be thinking of https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/forum/discussion-forums/hunter-jumper/239155-rf-amber-eyes-commentary but it is closed so impossible to bump back up.

Ok, but does that mean folks are buying the horse with the successful drug recipe for the performance they have seen in the show ring? Either trainers and owners are getting duped for alotta money, or they are not and buying the horse plus illegal recipe together.

I do not know the owner of Mindful, but I have a hard time buying her statement. I also can not think of what would cause detox for 3 weeks, as it seems a bit far fetched from a strictly pharmacological standpoint- change of environment coupled with lack of I don’t know- dex, reserpine whatever- maybe. But Overuse of dex , et al would have got caught at a different random drug test, wouldn’t last for 3 weeks…

I read the post on FB and thought to myself it sounds like deflection or defending poor life choices…

I can not think of many in the horse world that own horses nice enough to be campaigned by the likes of LCF that are not aware of the shennanigans and complicit in minimally looking the other way or “It would never happen to my horse, he’s too nice”. It is not like owners of horses like this are plucked out of 4-H (no offense) by Larry and Kelley.

No doubt he got cocktails of this, that, the other… sounds like someone trying to be a victim or deflect. Glad the horse is out of there, taking the owner outrage with a shaker of salt. JMO.

It’s pretty common to pass along the horse’s “program”. usually involves a lot more than just drugs and the drugs might not be implicitly stated but are implied but yes, IME what it takes for the horse to be successful is often conveyed. It often doesn’t work too because subtle differences matter.

I don’t believe in dealing with this kind of thing which is why I do jumpers, but it’s common enough I’ve overheard the conversations, and I’ve been out of the A circuit game for a long time.

Yup, that’s it. Wanders all over but boils down to eligibility and questionable ethics of trainers plus opinions of posters defending KF at that time that just, maybe, might have changed in light of recent events. Opinions of those who never defended KF and LG never changed in those well versed in history over two and a half decades.

Its a good read on a cold night. Many intertwined topics there. Wake up the old grey matter, warm the emotions.
