I believe Marilyn Payne said it was a new test when she was cohost yesterday. They said they had a hard time “coming up with something new” that would test the horses but not be pure dressage, a la multiple changes in a row or canter pirouettes.

Yes - originally he used it only on his mare Fortuna (who isn’t here after a fall on cross-country at Carolina in March), as she was very sensitive (he rides her in it xc as well). He said recently that now that he was used to it he decided to use it on all of his horses, so it’s a relatively new tool for his other rides, which would be why you can find video of him in a more traditional saddle.

Looking towards xc tomorrow, it looks like the rain is holding off by an hour or two. Who knows what will actually happen, but the first hour or so of rides might get lucky with no rain.

Mine has been fine.
mine has been spotty and the camera work is out of focus. I know the focus is not my issue.

His stirrups are really short because he’s riding in a racing exercise saddle - says he can feel more.
It is quite interesting seeing so many skilled riders have reservations about XC tomorrow. Especially HSB’s comment she felt better about Badminton than tomorrow!

I had a dream last night OT and Ballaghmoor Class laid down an 18.9 last night so really hoping that was a premonition of what’s to come this afternoon!

Isn’t that funny? I looked at the digital course walk and thought it was a very nice course per usual, but maybe softer than other years. I’ll defer to the literal experts of the sport though
