Top breeding in that horse. From my perspective, the disadvantage isn’t having "xx’ in the pedigree or even being full-blood that edges your competitiveness in dressage. It’s whether the horse you’re riding raced. Those horses have long term physical baggage from a short-term career – AP Prime, Unmarked Bills, are all at the ULs in spite of their racing career… and that is saying something.

I think people forget that when they look at a TB at the top level and think the horse in front of them would be the same horse if unraced. In my experience, that’s not the case.

Omg spectators not allowed but dogs are :woman_facepalming:t2:

This is looking good, love the medium trot change.

Lovely test from Xavier Faer (sp?) and Tim Price. I think that was one of my favorite stretchy circles of the day.

Karl Slezak is posting bits of his course walk… this is the combo I can’t wait to see ridden.

Really hoping Tammie can put the pressure on! I’m seeing lots of 8s and quite a few 9s!

Tami Smith just did the nicest rein back of all time. Wow

I have never looked forward to a horse’s 5* debut as much as Mai Baum. What an amazing test and love the cheering.

Ugh, too bad about that change!!!

I audited a clinic of hers once and there was a horse that was spooking at the scary corner of the arena. She told the rider if the horse wouldn’t walk into the scary space, to back them into it. Soon they will realize that walking into the scary place is a lot easier than backing. She said if nothing else it helps them get stronger :joy: So it doesn’t surprise me to see such a nice rein back from her!

Gosh I love that Doug doesn’t have that horse’s mouth strapped down. I know he’s a little fussy, but it always makes me sad to see a horse cranked up.

He’s just a baby, and it shows in his ability to sustain some of the movements, but I thought he showed SO much quality! And he’s far from a dressage specialist. Such an exciting horse for the US, and it’s wonderful that he’s already been supported in his young career to get experiences like Le Lion. That grant is one of my favourites in the sport right now.

Liz’s scores are also looking like they’ll knock on the door of the leaders.

ETA: except for the changes. Darn it!

Damn if she could get those changes she would be minus 20.
