It is still my favorite TOS episode. Tribbles are second - and the episode of Deep Space Nine about Tribbles is pretty good as well.

OK. With regard to the quoted paragraph, if they were to determine that he was “only” a danger to the person he he received the NGRI for shooting, I’d be flabbergasted if they released him while still delusional.

Well, apparently the NJ Supreme Court has held that release is possible under those circumstances.

I still think a true supporter of MB would hope he recovers from his delusions, rather than hope he will be released despite continued delusional thinking.

At this point, there is zero evidence that MB has continued delusional thinking. Zero. None of us are privy to his medical health records.

You know, it is entirely possible, that people just want him to be able to heal in a situation far more conducive to healing than an overcrowded, underfunded State institution. While I believe that the staff at AK does their best, the best for MB just may not be inside those walls.

Maybe, just maybe, a true supporter of MB firmly believes in NJ’s law that says commitment is not ever to be punitive. And maybe they believe that outside AK, he’ll have access to medical treatment, horses, art supplies, unrestricted access to family and loved ones and a myriad of other things that can help the healing process. So, maybe they’re just hoping that, delusional disorder or not, the psychiatrist determines he’s not, in fact, a danger to himself or the public, and can be released so he can go about getting on with healing.

I absolutely agree that if his well being is all that is being considered, release into a supportive environment is best.

However, the judge has to weigh his interests against the safety of the public. IMHO, I’m going to be surprised if the judge releases him despite him continuing to be a danger “only” to the person he shot.

I think I’ve said it before, but my two all time favorite Star Trek episodes were the tribbles episode and the one with Joan Collins on earth in the 1930s. They really worked the comedy/tragedy drama masks with that combination.

I have actively avoided Star Trek my whole life but I am now feeling all accomplished because even I know about tribbles.
We joke at work that binder clips are like tribbles in how they reproduce. We have binder clips everywhere.

@CurrentlyHorseless, do you truly think that anyone is telling MB what is being posted on social media? Do you think he even knows what is going on here or anywhere else? Why do you think people who care about him would think telling him about social media is a smart thing to do?

If the psychiatrist makes that determination (and that’s a big if) and the judge chooses to deviate from NJ caselaw, I’m sure Mr Bilinkas will have zero problem going to the court of appeals again.

I didn’t throw that out there as a statement of fact about this case. It’s simply a fact that NJ has considered this and made findings about it in the past.

I have not “called for”, nor do I expect, a “public apology” from MB. I’ve said that I think recovering from his delusional thinking requires him to admit to himself that be shot her.

Do you think he remembers what happened that day? Or do you have doubts about his amnesia?

Maybe he is planning to relitigate the issue of whether he shot her in civil court. The problem there is that the jury in the civil trial has a lower bar - preponderance of the evidence- than the jury in the criminal case.

How do you think he would/could go about relitigating the issue of whether or not he shot her in the civil trial? If they got into a lot of details covered in the criminal trial… it seems like that might be risky. What if some of the same witnesses were called to testify again? What if their testimony was inconsistent? Do you think Schellhorn would have any interest or appetite with respect to pursuing perjury charges against any witnesses the clearly seemed to have provided false testimony during the criminal trial? If Schellhorn is frustrated and angry over the loss during the criminal trial, and one or more witness proves to have been inconsistent in their testimony during the different legal proceedings… it seems like he MIGHT be inclined to follow up on that.

One more question/thought for you on this issue.

Do you think MB and his attorneys might try to relitigate the self defense issue again at the civil trial? Is that what you are driving at? Clearly they were blocked from pursuing that at the criminal trial. Do you think the rules of evidence, and having a new judge involved with the civil trial might allow him to pursue exploring that issue this time around, when presenting a case for his counterclaims?

Where I used to live, a neighbor had about 3 acres, and had guineas. They were always on the road, honking the horn didn’t move them, so I would roll down my window, yell “Shoo!” and they would leave. The flock kept getting smaller, and I suspect the survivors were rehomed to a more remote property.

Also, regarding different breeds of dogs for protection. I remember we had an Airedale when I was a kid. She seemed like a very sweet dog to me, but I do believe she had a little tendency to “protect” the house from the mailman. I don’t think he appreciated that trait very much.

Has anybody mentioned Standard Poodles? My old boss had one that was so protective and so hated the mailman that it shattered a large picture window and went after him. Mailman refused to deliver mail not only to boss’ house, but to entire street. Neighbors were not pleased…

How and why would you conclude he continues to be a danger to anyone, including She Who Shall Not Be Named?

In the unlikely event that happens, ekat has patiently explained why that would be unlikely to prevent him from being released. There are many other mechanisms to ensure the two parties stay far apart from each other - mechanisms I’m sure MB and his team are just as eager to have in place as the K clan.
