and claiming to be the savior to all.
LOL. ‘Poverty is owning a horse’, and LK is up to about 5 or so now. An expensive hobby that still eats and needs looking after while she naps. She should have gotten into bikes. At least the cats could enjoy climbing over them in the basement while she naps.
I know someone just like that. I just roll my eyes and let her spew.
Genuinely curious about the curiosity over the source of her funds. Not close to this saga, so admittedly missing context. Is it just because she herself likes to talk about her ‘wealth’ and ‘status’, or is there more to this that I just don’t know?
It’s because she’s claiming “unlimited resources” but RG testified that they could barely afford the 5 k/month and that is why it had to include housing….not enough room in the budget to live in NJ as well. Plus she crammed in an additional 3 horses without paying more $$ than for the original 2.
So, you went from barely able to afford training/living in NJ to a house and Wellington $$ for 6 horses.
And the fact that she references making the money herself, but seems to have no paper trail to make that possible. Considering all the antics, and illegal behavior, at Barisone’s, it really begs the question on how she got the $$.
The Barisone threads have spanned 4.5 years on these forums. This has been discussed quite extensively. The curiosity about the sources of her funding is a result of multiple factors. First… it goes to the fact that Lauren seems to lie quite a bit about money on social media. And brag. And… it’s striking and strange. Second… it also goes to the issue of what was motivating each party leading up to the fateful shooting. Why was Lauren engaged in such extreme conflict with multiple parties at Barisone’s farm? Why was she so insistent on staying put? Some of us are curious about this… it doesn’t track with real life experiences people have had with extremely wealthy folks who board and train at high level facilities. Soooo… one wonders who Lauren really is?
Anyway… as time went on and questions were posed directly to Kanarek family members and Lauren herself on these forums about the source of her funding, it was noteworthy how they all bobbed and weaved and obfuscated. For years. It’s really strange. At the same time, they all insisted that Michael Barisone perceived Lauren as a ‘cash cow’ of a client, and really didn’t truly want her leave his facility. None of that really makes much sense to those of us on the outside who have followed this situation for the last few years.
What is abundantly clear is that somehow Lauren does manage to fund her horses and lifestyle, and has done so for years, even though she has no public track record of any sort of employment.
Anyway… many people are now curious as to what the truth about all this is. It potentially could shed light on Lauren’s motivations and actions in the weeks and days leading up to the shooting. Because to this day… much of this story just doesn’t make sense.
Just from life experience … When someone refuses to move out, and/or refuses to move their horses, it may because they don’t have the money to get into a new place. And cover the expenses of the move. That’s always back of mind, regardless of what they are claiming.
Moving just the horses would cost far more than $5k. First month’s board alone, for 5 horses, would be more than $5k at a facility of the standard they are leaving. That has to be paid up front, before moving so many. Although she could spread them out at different places. No idea if pasture board is as scarce there as it is here, so that might not be a realistic option, either.
Plus if other people are better informed about LK than was MB, her reputation might make it hard to move.
Even if she’s good at getting unsuspecting suckers to do things for free, 5 horses is a big ask.
A lot of people present themselves as having far more money than they do. From time to time it catches up with them. But many are surprisingly good at getting back on their feet again and continuing the facade. I always wonder how they do that.
Anyway, yeah, I can see why people wonder about LK.
Also she sounds behaviorally unemployable. Wouldn’t last even if someone was sympathetic enough to hire her. Just a guess.
If they google her they sure won’t
But after the shooting, she did just move out and move into a new barn……and into Wellington at that. Her costs of horse keeping increased dramatically after her penny pinching song and dance.
So, why the song and dance? That is why the curiosity.
Exactly. All of what you just said.
What is undeniable is that since the shooting, Lauren has moved on to south Florida, has 6 horses (I think? Maybe 5… I’m not sure) in full board along with training in Loxahatchee, has bought a house as well, and has been waging a multi year civil legal battle with Michael and other parties.
But… she still doesn’t seem to be employed. And her parents don’t really seem to be in a position to have set up a multi million dollar trust fund for her. And Rob apparently works for Lauren, and seems to take care of the horses.
It’s all still quite a head scratcher.
Found a sympathy sucker to pay the horse move part of it, after the shooting while she was in hospital, is my guess. Someone who cares about horses, generally. And thought that the horses were virtually abandoned after their owner was shot. That would be a powerful story.
Especially if it was someone who didn’t find the expense difficult to manage. After all, they are part of Wellington.
Pure pointless speculation on my part, though.
What do we know about LK? (Even me, who is not the most well informed.) She’s a talker who always has a great story behind what she wants. She is quickly persuasive with people who don’t know her well. They tend to believe her show of apparent wealth. What more does she need? After all, that’s how this whole thing started.
You should review some of the old Barisone threads. Much is known about Lauren’s background before she arrived at Barisone’s farm. It didn’t come out at the criminal trial, because she was the victim of an alleged crime. But… if the civil suit had ever gone to trial… it would have been quite interesting.
However… the civil suit never did go to trial. Lauren avoided ever got sitting for a deposition, and eventually reached private settlements with the other parties she sued.
She’s claimed to be in the process of suing 48 hours and CBS for quite awhile… I guess because she felt like they painted her in an unflattering light or something… but I don’t think anyone has found any evidence of an actual complaint yet? Who knows. If there finally is a real lawsuit over that, maybe someone can link that evidence to this thread. Otherwise, I think it’s safe to assume it’s just more lying and bluster on social media, while Lauren avoids ever sitting down to be deposed under oath about much of anything.
And the song and dance is necessary to keep up appearances.
But of course that’s a long way from explaining everything she has going on.
My guess is that every aspect of her life is compartmentalized. No one knows the whole story at any given time. People only know what they hear from her about their part of it.
But is she actually keeping up appearances? I don’t think k she even shows anymore. Rumor has it she doesn’t ride with Ulf anymore. It seems like all she does is hang around South Florida and rant on the internet about who she’s going to sue next, and how Michael Barisone will never be allowed to leave the state of New Jersey because of the civil commitment that followed the criminal trial verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity.
It seems like a strange and sort of sad existence.
I can’t read 4.5 years of that insanity. I tried keeping up with it for a while, but lordy. Just pile on after pointless pile on. Life is too short. I won’t be the only one who will always be on catch-up with this case.
Classic, on her part, of a certain kind of path through life. I’ll leave it at that.
I didn’t start following it until the criminal trial. But then it really sucked me in.
Have you watched the 48 hours episode? That will only take an hour of your life. It’s not a terrible summary of the story.
Maybe watch that and then watch Netflix when it finally comes out.
I’ll admit… in addition to posting on COTH, I’m a bit of a true crime junkie. And fascinated by human psychology. If we draw a ven diagram involving these three things, it’s easy to identify people who post here who ended up getting drawn into the Barisone threads.
I actually did read enough thread to get the situation outline, and the apparent events of the day. I did listen to s lengthy podcast that varied only slightly from that, not as detailed.
I’ll find time to watch the recommendations, thanks.
If nothing else, the case is such an example of why landlording should be taken seriously and correct process followed. Everything would have been avoided. MB’s life would be intact. But there are always people who think things will be fine with a handshake and goodwill.
And those are the people who are targeted marks for people like LK.
