Michael Barisone

In one of the early hearings, MBs attorney claimed that MB had filed a claim of bullying against LK with SS. LK originally reported MB to SS, but in the case of adults, bullying is handled by USEF, not SS, which is why the investigation ended up at USEF.

A couple of other people had reported LK to USEF for bullying prior to the shooting, and the investigation resulted in no action against LK, as reported in the NYT.

Because people dont understand what the word bullying means. Posssibly because they have never taken any training on the subject, or --as seems more likely-- they have taken training but still refuse to learn or accept anything that contradicts with their own “interpretations.”

So, we agree. LK doesn’t really understand what bullying actually means. After all, she has posted several examples of things (dressage rules for example) where she has incorrect understanding and when corrected has lashed out. And once you realize she has an incorrect understanding of say, dressage rules, her explanations of the conversations between her and MB look a lot less like the fraud and bullying she claims and more like her being out of control.

Well, when you put “evidence” and “numerous investigations” into context with her claim of “three lawsuits going on”, well, one has to assume the point of evidence and investigation and appeals is, at a minimum, designed to hang the threat of a lawsuit over someone if they don’t do what she wants.

Remember when I suggested that a particular poster stop posting unfounded allegations anonymously and they did, and were immediately replaced by another low post member doing the same thing?

This is all such incredible nonsense. I feel enormous sympathy for Michael, and the way this woman has totally upended his life.

I do not know him personally, but following all this is just too incomprehensible for words.

Yes it was tempting to take in a student with multiple horses, and high flown dreams. He has found to his dismay it
was a disastrous decision.

You dont know Michael, but because of things you read on the internets you feel bad for him that he shot a woman twice in the chest?

Man, I hope you don’t ever sit on a jury.

I’m just saying that she has not, to my knowledge, said that she is suing USDF, or threatening to sue USEF to get her Bronze medal. I think it’s unfair to accuse her of threatening to sue USDF over the medal in order to make her look bad, when she has not.

“Because people don’t understand what the word bullying means,
“ what?

Taking in a rich student with multiple horses seems to have been an unfortunate decision in this case, but the disastrous turn was his decision to “fix” things by getting rid of her by shooting her.

YD, some people think bullying means being mean to, but the definition of bullying for purposes of organizational oversight involves a power-imbalance.

in order not to be completely meaningless and unenforceable, bullying (in relation to safe school/safe sport/employment training modules) includes a power imbalance.

Ergo, accusing someone who does not hold a position of authority or power or influence over the accuser (or rando people on the internet) is nonsense.

Lauren is a nobody, with no professional (or really personal) influence over anyone, outside of her ability to not patronize a business, and to tell others not to either. Her being mean to Michael, or rando boarders, or a former braider, isn’t bullying in any meaningful sense that organizations like usef or safe sport are going to address.

OK. That is basically what USEF decided when they declined to do anything about the complaints of two women against LK.

Can an adult be bullied by your definition? Is it conceivable the MB was bullying LK by your definition? Not asking if he actually was, just whether adult trainer vs adult student can be viewed as bullying according to your definition.

Absolutely an adult can be bullied, but in the hypothetical of a trainer/client relation, I see little possibility for either safe sport or usef to support a claim of bullying of a trainer by their client.

The Tommy Serio situation isnt a perfect analogy, but Tommy was found to have used his position to take advantage of his employee/working student.

You won’t likely see the reverse, because what power does the employee have to extort with? They arent obligated to be an employee, as a client isnt obligated to train with a particular trainer, so threats or fear of a client leaving arent really a thing. It might feel wildly extorting, but you provide your client a service that they can take or leave as they will.

A client or employee are also perfectly within their rights to tell people that you are a jerk who is bad at your job, and they can say that all the time to everyone possible, presuming there is no NDA in place.

They cant say things that are demonstrably untrue and can be proven to have materially impacted your livelihood for the worse.
