Note that the Dept of Ag doesnât have direct jurisdiction with regard to seizure. I targeted them today because the head of the NJSPCA said over the weekend that SPCA would have seized the horses already but the Dept of Ag didnât agree. (Yokum said this on their FB page when he was answering comments. Wish I had taken a screen shot because theyâve scrubbed the page today, removing those comments). At any rate, my goal was to turn the heat on the DoA and make sure they know that SPCA is blaming them. Yokumâs claim is probably not true and will piss them off, and maybe they put more pressure on SPCA as a result.[/QUOTE]
Yocumâs claim and blame on the NJ DoA is completely bogus, and he said the same thing to me when I asked why action hadnât been taken after a year and a half. Here are some excerpts from one of the many news articles about this:
"Following such allegations of abuse, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture investigated and sent inspectors to the barn in June of 2013. A department spokesperson says inspectors found the conditions inside the barn met the departmentâs definition of a âsevere violation.â
The Department of Agriculture says investigators handed their report over to NJSPCA (New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), which has the enforcement authority. A NJSPCA spokesperson says the agency was made aware of situation in August of 2013.
NJSPCA would not talk on camera about why it has taken a year and a half to act on the Department of Agricultureâs findings but in a statement said the case is âdifficult and complexâ and they are working to conclude it âas quick as possible.â "
