Monica Thors

I’m sure that the cats will be seen to as well if they haven’t also started their removal from Monica’s house 2 miles away from the barn.
I just feel so much relief that the survivors will never have to hear the sound of a dremmel tool again in the hands of someone so ill that they once trusted. I can’t see my screen anymore

We’ll see what the veterinarians say about these animals, and then I fully intend to make follow-up phone calls thanking the various offices for getting them out of there - yes, I know it should’ve been done a year ago - and expressing gratitude that it was done.

What is the HRU?

Rate My Horse Pro has picked it up, too:

It is reported that all but two horses have been removed from her farm, and the goat also. The other two horses will probably be put down.

just saw on FB that the horses have been removed!!! two could not stand up though and may be euthanized… at least more suffering for them.

Thank Cod. May they all be released from pain very soon.

Last two updates:

we did it!! they finally stepped in and did the job. see our page for updates. I got to go to HRU now, but will update more when I have time later! huge thank you to Kathy, Helen, cbs and an anonomous friend who did awesome!!! and thank you to all of you who put the pressure on, you made a difference!! you helped save them what can be saved!!! THANK YOU ALL

And this:

We all agree its was horrific what all animals endured. But now I hope , and assume, that Monica will get the mental help she has desperately needed for many years. I wish her family peace of mind. Especially Matt. Thank you to all.
I am relieved this is a new start for the animals. I have known Monica 16 yrs.
And for years she was stabled right next to me in the barn. I know most of these horses personally. I hope that the five removed will recuperate to a life of love and care. I will always be sorry that we lost 3, and soon to be five I assume.

Anouk, horse rescue united.

Thank you@ Kathy McGuire

I am just blown away that it has happened!
Everyone made a difference. Heres praying that the horses that were able to be removed will be helped and healed and found homes for.
And that Monica will get the help she needs!
Thank you to all who made it happen!! God Bless!

Anyone else seen this? Just disgusting. This woman clearly has a mental health issue. Those poor babies :frowning:

Good job everyone, but especially Jealoushe, for posting this! Thank god those poor horses have been taken away from that monster. I don’t wish her ill, I can appreciate that she might be mentally ill, but her motivations made no difference to those tortured horses.

Updates:

http://www.nj.com/gloucester-county/index.ssf/2014/12/horses_removed_from_south_harrison_farm_after_owner_charged_with_abuse.html#incart_related_stories

“Matt Stanton, spokesman for NJSPCA, announced on Monday that the agency was charging Monica Thors, a long time owner and horse photographer, with animal cruelty after allegations that she repeatedly filed horses’ hooves down so badly that they became infected.”

"The Standardbred Owners and Breeders Association of New Jersey released a statement condemning Thors’ treatment of the animals.

“We are aware of the inhumane treatment of standardbreds owned by Monica Thors, and we have used our contacts in state government to push for actions to remove the horses from her,” said Tom Luchento, SBOANJ president in a release on the group’s website. “The appropriate agencies in Trenton will be moving forward to rectify this problem. We are shocked and incensed that the mistreatment of these horses has been ongoing and the issues unresolved despite previous interventions by state agencies.”

I’m sad that it came to this but I am glad that (hopefully) the animals suffering is over.

So glad something happened, finally. Angry it took this long, and disgusted that people helped her and watched all this on FB and thought nothing of it. It makes me sad that people can be so stupid. This makes soring look pleasant by comparison.

I just hope they get the cats out, too.

Well, they sure had zero problem with letting it continue until just today. Her FB page is full of photos of her with StdBred people smiling in her barn and holding horses. And she’s been releasing all kinds of Standardbred videos on YouTube and no one’s ever spoken out.[/QUOTE]

How dare you! The “Standardbred People” are as disgusted as everyone else. And how could you tell they were “Standardbred People” by the pictures posed on her facebook? Odds are they are likely her help. I can’t imagine anyone in any racing business approving of what she did to these poor horses. Just because she’s posting videos on YouTube means everyone has seen them. Do you see all the videos of bad things happening in your discipline? Not all of us live on YouTube. When it hit facebook that was the first I’d heard about her, though her reputation as a we bit left of centre pre-dates all this.
