Monica Thors

News report here:

Interview with Monica Thors and some video of the “sound” horses in the round pen. Including one that’s cantering like a walker because it’s so sore :frowning:

Sounds like the two are being euthanised.
I am a tough old cookie. But just the “still” of her dragging that poor horse out of the stall…I could not bring myself to watch the video. I do not want to watch pain & abuse by choice. sad
It is hard to tell for sure but it sounds like two of the five are likely to need euthed as well unless they are the two that were left behind initially and are being counted twice in some reports.
My tally:

10 to start
3 died prior to all this going viral
5 ambulatory in the round pen
2 we didn’t get video of because they were lying down in the stall

7 removed, two downed horses euthanised.

Could certainly be off, but that’s the way I’ve been reading things.

I have to say I do not know who this laserbob is, but the fact that anyone could defend this womans actions makes me believe he is indeed a troll and is only posting here to cause trouble.
The ignore button comes in handy.

Those horses are obese. They’re not 14.2 or 15.2 either. there’s a lot weight and no hoof wall and little sole. That’s agony; no doubt about it.
I would find it very hard to believe that first of all; no one in her past hasn’t recognized she needed help and secondly that maybe she has been seen by a professional or two and the decided she didn’t need help or didn’t need it anymore.
I read somewhere that the horses went to Dr. Riddle in Maryland but that may not be correct.
I’m sure that over the years she’s seen a farrier work with a dremmel tool before, maybe on a resection for white line disease or whatever but those tools give off a lot of heat if your not careful and you can instantly go wrong because of high speeds. But hell, what possible good does it do to slice away at the frog and the sole to the quick when you’e essentially whittled the wall away from top to bottom??? And that reminds me … is Laserbob a farrier?
You just had to wake him up didn’t you? It shall be known it is he whose name we shall not speak, though he may still wake up and profess his knowledge to us.

The way you think you have the power to shut it down is so cute. Never change!

Admin, this thread is done.

Lock it up.

The only obsessive–compulsive disorder I see are those continuing to look for instances/patterns of abuse.

Go elsewhere peeps, there’s plenty of topics at COTH to squawk about.

If there is no abuse…set the horses loose.
If you think there is no abuse, gawd, maybe we’d better have a look at your animals and if necessary, start a ‘stop laserRob’ FB page.

I hope lots of people take note that what finally got those poor horses some help was not the NJSPCA, not pita, not HSUS- it was knowledgeable horse owners who raised the ruckus and finally forced the authorities to take action. My understanding is they are working on saving the cats as well.

We’d better nourish that model moving forward. As an example, the clueless RARAs who believe that the carriages in NY are cruel wouldn’t know an abused horse if it collapsed from pain on top of them. But that does not stop the clueless from insisting they know what’s best for our horses.

I know of a person in this area who is accumulating horses, though unemployed and thus unable to afford their proper care- local animal authorities have been slow to take action, but have taken ‘some’ action and the horses are being fed- thanks only to one local horse trainer who has kept the pressure on.

I’ve seen this picture pop up several times over the past week. What is it, exactly, that we are looking at there? Is there ANY horn left?

I’ve never seen a hoof look so gruesome and I just don’t know what I’m looking at.
I’m not sure why it’s so constricted, I’ve never seen anything like it. There was recently a zebra at New Bolton that sloughed a hoof capsule, and here’s a good progression of what the regrowth looked like (warning: bloody)- http://www.vet.upenn.edu/images/default-source/New-Bolton-Post/hoof-regrowth.jpg?sfvrsn=0

Wow, that is AMAZING. Thank you for sharing. Very interesting.

I’d say Monica’s horse is so constricted because she dremmeled away every single scrap of wall the horse had.

Euth might be a welcome end for the 2 that are worse off.

Monica is a sick, twisted individual. I would to dremel her feet. Short of that, a padded cell for life would be appropriate.

Send her back to Sweden so she is “whatever” on their dime.

In the CBS update she said that she was on her way to say goodbye to the two being euthanized. Do you think that she’ll be allowed anywhere near them??

My heart is absolutely broken for those horses. I can not imagine in my wildest dreams the pain they have endured. I will never get the vision of that poor creature hobbling out of the stall on bent legs out of my head.

Technically they are still her animals but seized under a warrant. They might because they are her horses and she obviously cares about them (even if she is struggling mentally with some disease); but on the other hand, do you get to hang out with any other of your seized assets after a warrant is served?
laserRob, I do not know you. I was more than willing to give you total consideration, even though others warned not to.

Post 295, you lost a lot of credibility with me with that one.
[edit] In your post #299 you credit me with having “first hand accounts”, then in post #300 say I lost all credibility.

Is there a post #299 1/2 you can refer too as to why I lost that credibility?

Nice to see that it IS possible to grow that back with appropriate care.

On the facebook page, a woman who says she is a vet asked a very good question. She said that it was unlikely MT was able to do what she did without tranq. Good point. Then she asked WHO was supplying it to her. Better point.

I’ve read at least 100 comments about the ‘helmet’.

And, I’ve read at least 50 say they’ve been up and down her facebook photo page.

(all over, not just COTH)

Yet…not a single person has remarked about the photo showing the head injury and subsequent increasing donning of the helmet thereafter.

Pitiful.

Why didn’t you do anything to assist her? Why didn’t YOU help her? You knew she was struggling. Why?
