I think so. Bizarre.
I how the authorities are able to effectively intervene and build a rock-solid criminal case against her.
I don’t even think it’s worth criminally punishing her (i.e. jail time)-- just get all of the animals away from her quick and get her into some sort of mental health program!
A complete summary of this story has now been posted on the SMT fb page. It explains it all. The pictures are disturbing enough and coupled with video of that poor animal in a sling or trying to walk are vomit inducing. It is clear there is mental illness of some sort but those animals need to get to a safe place.
While I tend to reserve judgement on these kinds of posts, I have to say that those photos are pretty disturbing. Hopefully those horses get some help.

Just to clarify- People self-harm do so for the adrenaline release and control (to simplify things). Hurting an animal would not give them the same type of release self-injury does. Since it’s the feet of both the horses and cats, this looks more like uncontrolled OCD. This woman probably trims her animals compulsively with no control over it. I’m not saying that’s an excuse, but it could be some context.

SUMMARY:
Since at least 5 years ago Monica Thors started severly over feeding her horses. They all had a big manure bucket in the stalls with two 50 pound bags per horse of sweet feed given a day. Ofcourse they couldn’t finish it all but they sure tried.
Monica used to be a bit crazy already but at least used to exercise all her horses,turn them out.
At this point Monica escalated in no exercise. Other then having them walk on rocks.
She has always used a dremmel and always trimmed her horses short, but that also became much worse around this time.
Several people even told her this was wrong. That it was hurting her horses.
Ofcourse foundering issues soon set in. They became severly obese and starting going lame.
About 4 yrs ago the spca and department of agriculture where on the farm again(not current location) for another case.
I than told them than that she was slowly killing these horses. That clean barn and feed does not mean its ok.
The farm manager also spoke up and I know he had before as well.
Monica has now been at her current location

for almost 4 years I believe.
And the years of abuse have caught up to the horses.
While back I shared videos on fb after keeping up with the farm owner and finding out Monica’s horses had gotten much worse. Some to the point of no return.
Made a complaint again and I know several people did back than.
I did not even get called back .
I had specifically asked for updates and a call back since former experiences shown me you need to stay on top of things with the spca to get them to get back to you.
Now fast forward, a few months ago 2 horses got euthanized. Monica had all excuses again. Broken leg. broken neck.Sick.
Whatever. We know its from severe foundering and following health issues that the horses couldn’t be saved.
Monica did not want them euthanized, that didn’t happen until they went to a clinic if im correct.
The 3rd horse is a horse I always wanted to help, she was an absolute sweetheart. Princess Grey. She was found dead in the stall.
Im told Monica tried to get rid of the body asap but authorities did an authopsy .
Im told had a heart attack,dont know if that’s true but very likely died as a result of the years long abuse.
That makes Hoyle,Grey and I believe Carribean Paradise that have died.
Clearly Prince is headed in the same direction.
I believe that Rose is also bad but I don’t know how bad.
In videos all show lameness,even the tb that she didn’t have that long yet.
Many pics show her abusing the animals.
Many show horrible “trimming” done. uneven,short,badly .
They have stumps left as feet.
Hoyle for example lived for many months in a sling before he got euthanized.
Also monica owns these horses herself. bred a few of them herself.
(turned 2 mares out with hoyle,told him he was not allowed to breed them…well one yr a stillborn foal out of grey,the next year a foal .
She has not raced in years. at the former farm it was already clear they where crippled for life to be an top athlete.
When a vet told her feed less and start excercising them, she took them out in severe hot weather on a deep sandtrack and they where so obese they could hardly jog around. huffing puffing and full of white sweat.
She is plain not fit to own any animals.
Have also seen her hit her dogs several times. put them harshly down on the ground.
Cats im told, she has 50 or so now, she trims whiskers and nails too.
The goat she trims herself too.
All has been fallen on deaf ears until CBS news Philly picked up the story. They investigated and you all seen that video.
We started this fb page to try get people to share pics and the videos to report her etc.

Horse Rescue United and Mylestone Equine Rescue are willing to take in some of the horses…4 would still need assistance.
Many people offered help.
We need to do this, we need to get these animals away from Monica Thors.

Monica has no job.
This is just a small story about her doings.

I had to look away from the photos, I have never seen anything so grotesque. I would fear vigilante type justice as all these horrible photos are circulating the horse community and no official action seems to be happening.
I saw this for the first time last night, and had a nightmare that I went out to the barn and my colt had no hooves. I can’t recall ever having seen anything more disturbing.

Jesus. I’ve never met her, but my sister once worked for Ron Waples 25 years ago and Thors was his then-girlfriend. I had a rather bizarre phone conversation with her one night when she called looking for my sister. Looks to be a clear case of mental illness – animal welfare authorities need to step in pronto.

They probably don’t have the resources to take care of that many animals, particularly the horses and goats, which is why they are asking for people to step forward and offer to help with $$ or care of the animals. It is tricky when there are a high number of high needs large animals needing rescue.
How much money is she getting from the Swedish woman? A hundred thousand a month? That is $1.2 MILLION a year! Who gives someone over a million a year? :eek:

They don’t need facilities to house the horses once they are removed. They need a place to incinerate the remains of the horses. Or land in which to bury them. Poor things.
Munchausen by proxy perhaps? Whatever the case, those poor animals need to be released from that misery.
The helmet - what’s up with the helmet? In a piece of video linked somewhere in one of those links, she isn’t wearing it but carrying it when the reporter approaches her outside a barn. Then when she is being interviewed inside, she is wearing it? Just plain weird.
Although I suspect I’d be wearing a helmet for fear one of those poor beasts takes my head off if even one of them has one good kicking foot left.:no:
I have followed this for several days, am friends w/a lady that harness races, doesn’t actually know, but knows people that do.
Supp she gave her horses a MUCK BUCKET full of sweet feed in each stall, that is why the foundered, also, she stopped putting them outside.
After they foundered, she got more aggressive w/her “trimming”.
There are people who said she IS “working” on their teeth.
This has made me seriously sick. People in racing are putting pressure to ban her.

Those horses need help! The media can do it!
If someone will list the media outlets & various authorities to contact, I am willing to, as I am sure numerous of other here too are, start making calls tomorrow encouraging them to look into this matter & actually do something pronto for the sake of the horses!

My BO and I were discussing this last night. It could be that the “complexity” of the case is the mental illness aspect, but my cynical nature says someone within the SPCA is on the take. That is the only thing that I can really attribute the lack of action to. This woman is getting $100k a month and is highly litigious and knows how to work the system. Hell, she sued her own son when he petitioned the court, as a minor, to no longer be in her custody at all. She wanted him to pay her back for all the money she had spent on him.
I pray those animals under her custody are rapidly removed from her “care” and released from their misery, whether they can heal or be put down.
