Monica Thors

Monica Thors has posted video on her FB page of some of her horses being lunged. While a few are clearly lame, a couple others have very exaggerated front leg movement (eg. Missy Anne), like nothing I’ve ever seen from a Standardbred before. Could this be the result of “soring” of the front feet. I’m curious to hear what others think.[/QUOTE]

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I refuse to friend her.

These links might work for the non FB folks:

Missy Anne

Riley Jayde (This one is a TB)

Angler

Pleasure Me

American Rose Lee

In KY horses have been seized on the owner’s property once the owner was charged.
In both cases that I recall off the top of my head, the judge wrote an order for who was allowed to take care of the animals on site (permission to enter premises) under the supervision of a qualified equine veterinarian.

The persons charged were NOT allowed ANY contact with the animals while out on bail or their behinds would have been behind bars again.

In one case the horses were taken care off on site for over six months until the court case was over.

The ASPCA did send funds via a grant to the County to help offset the expenses of feeding and vet care.

The first thing that needs to happen here is to file charges against this woman, go in with a search warrant and a qualified vet to record each horse’s condition and take pix to support the findings.

And for goodness sakes, keep the flipping AG Dept. out of it!!!

She has the soft ride type boot on some of them but all of them are trying to take the weight off the front end. Made me sick to my stomach. And Hungarianhippo is correct from all I’ve seen and read. Tell people exactly what you need and when and I can guarantee they will have it in spades. Laurierace your post was still there, I can read but not comment lol

So there are five horses that can clearly walk onto a trailer to safety.

She’s still posting? Are those videos recent?
I am not going to look as it would make my blood pressure go through the roof.

And, is someone downloading all those pix and videos before she makes them all go poof?

Videos are from today.

What in the bleep have THEY been doing all of this time?

And if you watch the videos with sound, you can hear that every horse requires non-stop clucking because they’re so reluctant to trot on those feet (even in the softride boots).

Somehow I’m still surprised that she posted these videos, though I shouldn’t be after the various photos she’s happily posted.

You can tell in the more recent photos she trims the goats feet the same way. The horses are missing forlocks, have their tails and manes banged, all the cats are missing whiskers, and the cats get trimmed as well. Obviously some sort of mental illness.

Horrific.

Can you post the link?

Normally I would be embarrassed to say I haven’t read this whole thread, but I am finding I have little stomach for reading stories about abused and tortured horses, so I just skimmed the first page and checked back over the last two pages searching for this link. I’m sure it is there on an earlier page, but it would be nice to have it posted again.

Look at the photos where teeth are visible, looks like she has been at them also. :frowning:

She needs to be in a padded cell!

Aren’t there any family members who could intervene and have her admitted?

I don’t understand why it is the public’s responsibility to come up with a plan at all. So if there isn’t a plan set up, including accommodations and transport, the SPCA itself has no fallback? And will continue to do nothing? Where is their responsibility in putting together “the plan”? I have seen horses evacuated to fairgrounds or auction yards. As other people have mentioned, they could be cared for on site, or euthanized if necessary. Please remember that just because she posted the videos today doesn’t mean that she took the videos today.

I can just see what would happen if I sat around griping to people and doing nothing, telling them that I couldn’t do my job until they rallied and did it for me. I know what would happen – I’d be out of a job.

I can’t post a link directly to that post, it’s on their facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/njspca

The horse with the nub teeth could also be a cribber. She may not be responsible for that. Very small consolation.

She has a son but he is not in her life and doesn’t need to be brought into this. As far as family from Sweden I don’t know if there are any in the US to help.

Someone has commented under Missy Anne’s video about what a “lovely moving horse” she is . It would not surprise me at all, that at least part of the motivation for the excessive trimming is an attempt to create that exaggerated front leg movement.

Big Lick (and often Plantation) shod horses are often “pressure shod.” This consists of paring the sole until it bleeds than, in the case of the BL, applying the “package” (a set of leather pieces several inches long that artificially lengthen the toe). A heavy shoe is than nailed to the “package.” The Plantation shod horse doesn’t get the “package,” just a 48 oz. shoe with hoof band to help keep it in place.

It’s long been argued by ASB affecianados that “soring” will not enhance the gait of a trotting ASB. That’s probably true. But when the ASB racks (genetically or by training) then they are moving more like a laterally gaited Walker and they would benefit from some soring practices.

Just goes to show that barbarity (or incredible stupidity) is a common human trait. :frowning:

That’s the two edges of the sword that is Facebook. Some of us can blow the smoke off the B.S. that we see; others that don’t have the foggiest what cruelty looks like can bolster the abuser with comments like “what a pretty poneee” with lots of exclamation marks, of course. Makes me wanna gag.
Does anyone know why NJSPCA has a bun on for NJ ag? Should we start emailing that bunch as well? I’m up in Canada but if I remember correctly - way back at one time there was another doozer of a abuse case that many emailed all pertinent government contacts and actually got some positive and prompt action. Maybe even NJ mental health services as well…edited t add - I just had a lk at nly the first vid that she posted today; if that poor beast could even squeeze itself through those panels to escape or had any hope of getting away from its torment it would.

Good point, JoZ.

Gumshoe, thank you for the link. I read through the facebook post and found this:

…if you can assist in anyway when we are actually allowed to remove the horses; go to njspca.org and use the contact tab to explain how you can help.

I don’t know why they didn’t just post the actual direct link to the contact page, which is this:
