Most Bizarre gone wrong thread?

Remember the poster from here who had posted here for years, Palomino something? Who left all her animals to be some kind of invited VIP at WEG or something, and the board here knew how her horses were basically abandoned while she was gone, we were trying to find people to water them, and she came home to find her animals seized, and came on here with a sad, unfair tale, but COTH actually knew what happened to her animals? I would live a link to those threads.

Oh, snap! Wasn’t there one a out a barn worker in texS who had the owners of a boarding barn tie a known puller to a tree up high and turn a hose on it and it hung its self, with horrid marks left on the tree, Nd a muddy scrabble mess and they tried to cover it up?

Was that the same person who kept posting pictures of really skinny horses and telling us that she was feeding bizarro “hay” of sorghum leftovers or sugar cane siftings or some other weird foodstuffs?

No, I think you’re thinking of a poster called PintoPiaffe…?

Oh, yes. I remember that thread. She lived in a trailer, I think? In Maine? I believe someone found her horses in the road outside her house because her fences were so low or so decrepit her horses could step over/through them. Her name was Celtic-influenced, IIRC.

Is that the thread?

Thank you! Her name was on the tip of my tongue! I thought it was Pinto-something, then I thought it was Celtic-something for some reason.

What about the one where the guy was complaining people wouldn’t let him have access to their horses for his personal sexual gratification? Although we’ve had some train wrecks, that might top the list for weirdness / ick factor.

We need categories for our Best Of year end awards…like Frequent Flyer goes to repeat train wreck topics like DressageHub, the Maestro, and the lady Michael Barisone shot. Best Flounce to those who opt to flame out from COTH in a blaze of glory, like Denali’s recent head-scratching thread. Any other suggestions?

The Big Pink thread must have been deleted… I can’t find it

Did anyone ever find out why denali was behaving the way she was? I was very worried about her-- it seemed like a mental breakdown of some kind, what with calling people “legions” and the other aberrant behavior.

She mentioned that she was in the military and had been stuck in a Motel due to the COVID situation. I didn’t see her last post…

I hope she’s okay. I DO NOT condone her behavior at all, but I can’t help thinking it was/is the result of mental illness. I’m far from an expert; however such a dramatic change, complete with accusing people of being demons, reminds me of some very unfortunate people who would come into the library I first worked at out of grad school. So sad.

Thank You for asking! I didn’t even know she had been banned until I clicked on one of the wreck threads linked and there it was- the big B under her name as the 1st respondent to the original post! So, would her thread, resulting in her banning, be considered a wreck??? I’m guessing that thread has been deleted since I can’t find it myself…?

It was deleted. I didn’t see it, and I’m sorry to hear that it was a worrisome post.

We might need a subsection for threads that never had a conclusion, because the OP stopped updating. So that anyone who is easily triggered by major frustration could avoid those! I think a couple we gave ourselves permission to invent various endings, just to have some form of closure.

Actually we might need trigger warnings of various kinds on certain threads … or maybe this is COTH, if you’re here, you have to be ready for anything.

Legal advice. Medical advice. Sales/purchase advice. Training advice. Farrier and hoof management advice. Maybe a section for threads that were actually useful? And separate out the ones that went wonky, with bad/crazy advice with lots of argument about it.

There was one thread that spawned many anecdotes about trainers using a horse in lessons without the owner’s knowledge or permission. I may remember that after the OP had a couple of go-rounds with the trainer about it, with apologetic promises of never again, the OP arrived at the barn to see her horse in the arena with a lesson student on it and the trainer instructing, and OP pulled the student off and threw the trainer’s tack over the hedge. Something like that.

And then there were some of the most exciting threads about how to get a horse out of a board barn that was being barricaded by a failing barn owner. We can only hope that those were all legit, and not posted by someone looking for advice on how to walk a board bill. :o

I am pretty sure that is a reoccurring topic, not a single thread

In the western training and showing world, that happens because it is customary for trainers to ask an owner to loan a horse for certain tasks, for suitable students.

The problem is when some then take that for granted, “forget” to ask and end up overstepping.

Some of our horses have been loaned to handicapped programs, is how one worked, thru suitable horses they could use from local horse owners.
They rotated horses every 2-3 months, so using them maybe once a year at most.

Another way horses were asked for, when the AQHA had their special trail rides, every year in a different place, local horses were requested.
Trainers then asked clients with suitable horses for the use of those for that specific event.

One other was, when competing at the biggest events, horses for the interscholastic competitions were loaned from the horses clients owned.
We had a couple that did well, one won the national championship for students, twice.

There are all kinds of trainers out there.
If we don’t trust one to do right by our horses, much less to abuse that the horses are under their care, but not to use indiscriminately, without specific permission, for lessons or other, then don’t have a horse under that trainer’s care, folks!

That tends to be the main response when this question is asked.

I was wondering what had happened, I saw she had been banned but couldn’t see any recent posts by her that would have been ban worthy.

I didn’t see any either, so I asked the Moderator and was told It was an expletive laden post that has been deleted.
