Mountain Horse Supreme Field Boot

Hey there,

I got my boots as well. I absolutely love them ! There was no break in required, they fit beautifully, and everyone was in awe. They couldnt believe they were mountain horse. Considering I cannot get them in canada till Jul-Aug, I am REALLY glad I ordered them. I wish they werent so expensive so I could school in them too :stuck_out_tongue: heheheh

I bought these and LOVE them, but I have to return them.

For those wondering about them, they are gorgeous. The leather feels thin like a pair of chaps, but lined, if that makes sense. Zippers are great and ankles are fitted- SUPER fitted- like, teeny tiny stick ankle fitted. That is why mine are going back…cries

Totally recommend them if you have stick ankles though.

Hey everyone, I was looking at these online the other day and I realized they only come in whole sizes. Do they run true to size? I usually wear an 8.5 paddocks/sneakers but an 8 in dress shoes. Not sure if I should try an 8 or a 9.

Did most of you go up or down in the shoe size if you were a half.

I went down a size and that seems best…

Bumping to see if anyone else has gotten a pair and what they think.

I ordered a pair from VTO Saddlery - they should be here tomorrow or Friday! Can’t wait.

I got a pair at the VTO sale, too, and they came a couple of days ago. For ~$350 I couldn’t resist!

I ordered the 10W and they are a tiny bit too tight. I can get them on over boot socks but when I zip them up over breeches they are a uncomfortably tight. I expected this and am just going to stretch them out a bit by wearing them around. The foot bed is SUPER comfy. My only issue is that the back of the ankle pokes me a bit, but I think this might be partially because the calf is a little too snug. I expect this to go away anyway, but in any case, it only pokes when I am on the ground. In riding position they don’t poke or pinch any where. Considering it took me months of bloody ankle to break in my last boots, these aren’t too bad!

(I put on a few pounds lately and these fit just as uncomfortably tight as my old boots, which I’ve had for 10 years, so I’m confident that when I lose the extra poundage, they will fit fine.)

As far as the foot size, I was a little worried. I usually order up in Danskos so I was torn as to which size to buy, the 10 or the 11. I called them and they didn’t have the 11s in stock so I got the 10s and it ended up being the right choice. Very generous sizes. I am exactly a 10 in US shoe sizes and the 10 Mountain Horse boots fit me perfectly with a bit of room to spare.

I don’t have cankles, but I’ve also never considered myself to have particularly svelte ankles, and the ankle fits me fine. I agree that it widens out very gradually, so the toughest part to zipper is actually the bottom of the calf, as my calf starts to widen ever so slightly before the boot does. Again, though, I think this has to do with the fact that they are a little snug.

As far as the leather, it is luscious! I can’t say if it will wear through any faster than other boots, but for the price I wouldn’t be upset if I had to replace them a little sooner. My 10 year old boots are 3/4 lined pull ons from Vogel. They are lasting forever, but they also took literally 6 months to break in to the point I wasn’t sobbing, and they don’t have the look that all the new zipper boots do.

If I rode 5 a day 7 days a weeks I think maybe I’d wear these through, but for how much I ride I’m not expecting them to get destroyed too fast. The leather feels absolutely sublime. It feels like my already broken-in treadstep 1/2 chaps, but it has a lining.

As far as the height, I would like them to drop just a smidge. Which I think they will do, but I don’t think they’ll drop much more since the ankle is so tapered.

I really can’t say enough about these boots. Even if they cost 50% more I think they would still be worth it, and at the price, I really don’t think they can be beat. I’m super excited about mine.

On a side note, does the bathtub trick work for boots that are too big, or for those that are too small? Could I gain 1/4 inch of stretch in these boots? Hoe exactly DOES that technique work?

Edited to add: I forgot to add that the zippers are great as well. Really high quality, and even thought I was really pushing them to their limit, they never felt like they were going to fail. Also, the boots have this great little cutout on the top where the zipper kind of locks in place and then a little placket buttons over it. Really neat feature.

I have had these boots for 3-4 weeks now, and I have worn them at shows and schooling. There was no breakin. They are fantastic. I also had the ankle rub but it gets better. They are wonderfully comfortable…the footbed feels like a running shoe ! Its awesome ! I get compliments all the time on them !

Wee!!! Mine came today and they are LOVELY. I’m absolutely stunned at the quality of them. I’m not able to zip them up with breeches yet, but I’m sitting here wearing them with shorts and they are just gorgeous.

I have skinny ankles, so for me the fit around the ankle is just perfect. They seriously look just like a custom boot on me. Will try and snap some pics.

You guys are awesome… thanks for all the pics and reviews. I have the “stick ankles” Pirateer mentioned and I was beginning to despair of finding non-custom boots that fit. Think I will order a pair and see if they’ll do!

Okay, so first day riding in them and they are AMAZING.

Right when I walked in office, the trainer I’m working for says, “Wow, what are those boots?” At least two other people asked the same thing today - everyone was in total disbelief that they are off-the-rack, especially seeing as I’m in the land of the custom boot (Southern California).

A few heel rubs at the moment, and they did rub my heel a lot when I had to use my spur today, but I think that attests more to the type of horses I rode today (BIG, DULL WARMBLOODS!) than anything else.

So, I definitely want to encourage anyone else who is thinking of buying the Ariat Monacos or another off-the-rack boot to check these out. Worth every penny! Plus, since they were so inexpensive, I’m not afraid to wear them every day like I would be with more expensive boots.

You can win a pair!!!

Recently I became a fan of the Mountain Horse USA page on Facebook and saw an update where you can win a pair of the Supreme boots!
MH USA Facebook Page

It deserves a check out and they update alot with new product info.

This public service announcement brought to you by: Ugh…It’s a Monday :frowning:

I just checked the sizing chart–looks like you can’t get these quite as wide as the Richmond style. Bummer. They sound absolutely great!

Anyone have any pictures of these while mounted?[/QUOTE]

Just saw this mounted picture of Corinne Ashton on twitter. http://twitpic.com/abw20

Bumping this thread to see how you all are liking these boots after a couple of months

Also, I could use some advice on fit:

I am a 7.5 US and wear a Regular / Medium in Ariats – can I pull these off???

The Dover rep said I was too short, that they were only for “Talls”. True??

I have the richmond which is the predecessor to the supreme but i think they are very similar. Mine have held up great and I’ve had them almost 2 years now. I ride multiple horses 5-6 days a week. I also have midget legs and they are not at all too tall, they drop a lot, but i’m not sure if the supremes are different. I have been sooooo impressed with all of my mountain horse products and their customer service! can’t say enough good things about the company.

Cool, thanks!

I am having the hardest time finding boots that I like

These look as soft as my Der Dau’s but with a nice orthopedic footbed.

But like I said, the Dover rep told me that I was too short (I’m 5’5") to wear them :frowning:

Your overall height doesn’t matter too much. What is your measurement from the floor up the back of your calf to mid knee? I always measure to mid-knee or slightly higher so they aren’t too short then they break down. (They are nice and soft so they will break down nice.) If you are a 7.5 (I am), I would go down to the 7s. I have found that the footbed tends to run a bit big in sizes smaller than 9. My mom is a true 9 and that size is perfect, but I’m a 7.5-8 and the 8s were huge on me.

I hopped onto the MH website and they have nice size charts. The height for the 7 supremes is 18.9" but they will break down some too.

Hope this helps! I only wore my pair to 1 show (I have Richmonds for schooling) so I can’t comment on the durability, but I can testify that I only wore them around the house for a day before showing and they didn’t hurt me one bit! YAY for no more new-boot torture!
(I remember my first pair of Ariats nearly killed me and made me wonder if riding was worth the pain!)

I’m only 5’6" or so and they work fine on me, so I seriously doubt you are too short to wear them. If anything, the leather is so soft that they’ll drop quite a bit. I think mine may have even dropped a hair too much, but I still love them.

I will probably have to eventually get the calves on them patched, as the leather is super soft and I ride a lot, but that’s not a huge deal to me.

What should I do??

I fit perfectly in the
Ariat 9.5 Tall reg calf
which = calf 14 1/2 height 20

If I do the MH
sz 10 calf reg 15 3/8 19 3/4
or do I do the slim
10 14 1/4 and 20 1/2 height

I worry about the whole ankle thing but don’t want the calf soo big

Does anyone else normally wear a 9.5 reg calf tall height in ariat???
