Where is she getting her OTTB’s?! I’m assuming not through CANTER or the sort. Although someone needs to inform all of the OTTB rescues about EDH.
Some people pick up right at the track from the trainers. I would guess with the amount she appears to buy this is the route she takes.
No, she works with a dealer locally who has been told about these sorts of situations.
And unbelievably cruel to that poor kitten. Just a horrible horrible monster
There are actually two separate posts but both are full of info/comments/evidence. All of the newest allegations have nothing to do with me or my horses and all took place long after I had left. I think this is the most damning though because it shows that EDH has clearly done nothing to improve her behavior…I’d go so far as to say she’s gotten significantly worse. It also shows that these are not just friends of mine lying to somehow benefit me as Ellen likes to claim. I’d never even heard of most of these people involved in these recent issues with her until now. I do know that over 25 letters have been sent to all above mentioned organizations and that Animal Control was at her property last week. I also know that there was a mass evacuation (what else would you call it?) of boarders and working students over the weekend.
There is one more statement that is even more horrifying that what has already been posted. I hope that the witness decides to add it here but I don’t know if that is going to happen.
@stormy17 So if I read the comments on your most recent fb post correctly, the USEA HAS been informed but are looking for letters from direct experiences with those involved in situations with Ellen.
Do you know if USE(F) or the Pony Club have been informed also?
Emily
USEA, USEF and ICP have been given multiple letters. I do not know about Pony Club. I have never been a member but I do know they have a FB page that they loooove to promote EDH on during Rolex. I left a comment and I strongly suggest others do the same, especially those with more PC knowledge.
[edit]
If I were involved I’d gather as much evidence (ask authorities what they’d need, specifics matter) as possible.
Writing letters? Why not. Sometimes slowly chipping away at resources/income can work, but sellers at the track will sell to anyone (sometimes) who has the monies. You just have to be careful and make sure you can back up your claims.
Great that she’s a bully too and makes threats.
I don’t care if you want to run a business and make a profit, but doing so wrong by the animals and this sport is not ok. It sucks when people get caught up in the greed and become careless about the animals.
It is great that some of you personally effected have come forward.
That is what I assumed, until…
That is absolutely sickening.
Actually I know that she buys many from Lora Pitre. People who are friends with Stormy showed screen caps of them texting Lora and trying to explain what’s happening. Also she has bought some from another reseller I am friends with and we spoke on FB messenger last night and my friend maintains that she’s never had anything bad happen with her, the updates are good and the horses are healthy in pics. HOWEVER, those horses are owned by someone else and thus are being paid horses in training. Which may be keeping them alive imho.

Some people have done what they could about EDH, even just from reading this thread - multiple traumatic terminations with barn owners; apparently she is ruled off the pony club?; students, working students and boarders leaving under unpleasant circumstances, etc. I had heard some of these stories through the Area V network long before this thread. But, Ellen has been good at developing new clients with no previous eventing experience who are not plugged in to the eventing network.
If it is true that EDH’s dogs are unvaccinated, I have a feeling that Area V organizers of horse trials and schooling days would like very much to know that. EDH’s loose dogs have been an ongoing bone of contention for organizers. They say she responds in an uncooperative manner when they speak to her about it. I have heard more than one person in Area V ranting about EDH’s dogs - didn’t occur to me the dogs weren’t vaccinated, in addition to everything else.
I don’t know about that, I’m thinking that they have been lucky so far. From what I’ve read in this thread a couple of clients lost horses due to poor stable management.
This entire thread appalls me, but hearing over and over again how she has continued to be an issue at numerous events, yet no organizing body has actually stepped up to DO anything, just pisses me off. As someone posted earlier Pony Club, USEA, and ICP are still promoting her, thus endangering more animals and people. There is an issue at EVERY. SINGLE. EVENT. she goes to, yet her entries are still being accepted. It’s time for someone, even if it’s just the organizer, to step up to the plate and tell her no. Do not accept her entry. Have Animal Control and security ready and waiting for whenever [it] hits the fan. Immediately have her dogs seized as soon as they are spotted off-leash. She makes a scene anywhere on the grounds, have her arrested and escorted off the property.
People like this always seem to get away with [it] while officials turn a blind eye and the animals and clients (ignorant ones…the ones who know her evils and still stand by her side are just as bad) suffer. Why have we become so infatuated with UL riders that they get a pass when they endanger lives?
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.
And I’ll add: One must never allow a sociopath to “care” for and/or “teach” animals or children.
Very disturbing read. I hope this person’s actions soon have consequences.
I agree with you. Sometimes, though, it’s not infatuation. Her Facebook page said her barn had 21 of the 77 entries at a combined test a couple weeks ago. I’m thinking she is getting a pass at some shows because of money. That’s over 1/4 of the entries just from her.
Doesn’t it always boil down to money.
Actually, ‘money’ is not the whole story. Yes, EDH may bring a lot of business to certain unrecognized events and schooling days, but she is not the big-entry trainer at recognized Area V events, by a long shot.
The thing is, an organizer or official is only dealing with the event on that weekend. They aren’t officiating all of this that is being discussed - this thread, all the rumors and accusations on social media, all the letters the organizers don’t even know about, what may have happened back at the home barn, etc. & so on. It’s more a thing of, on one day at the venue, loose dogs & snotty attitude. It’s annoying, even infuriating, but it’s temporary and is it really worth pulling someone’s entries over?
I’ve spoken with an organizer or two - not about EDH per say, but funny how EDH tends to come up because something just happened with her - who say they are trying to be the bigger person and not come totally unglued over loose dogs on the day-before course walk (especially since a number of people let their dogs loose on their course walk, but their dogs aren’t running around harassing other people and dogs). Or something else that is not the biggest event problem.
And if EDH’s group leaves early in a huff because EDH was chucked out, well, then her students lose the chance to see more of how things are done, and hopefully get more of a clue.
And if it is USEA recognized, I am not sure who has that decision to refuse or pull one competitor’s entry. Is it the TD, the GJ? I don’t know. Those officials are usually from out of town. They may give someone a talking-to, but I doubt they are likely to pull entries over loose dogs. And EDH can present herself very well when she wants to.
XYZ, who normally is responsible for the upkeep in EDH’s personal barn where you witnessed the filthy stalls? I assume she does not muck the stalls herself since she is often gone for days or weeks at a time for shows. As a working student, had you been in that barn before during the 6 months you were there? If so, was it everyday practice for those stalls to be unkempt, or was this a recent development? It’s hard to believe no one would be assigned to see after her top prospects.
