My horrible experiences with Texas horse trainer/instructor Ellen Doughty-Hume

Can we leave the politics out of this thread. Go post in the politics thread. Keep this thread about a bad trainer.

I think it was actually a three-parter (I edited because of the discussion above), 1: argue the facts, 2: argue the law and if you’ve got nothing 3: ad hominem. I’ve always used it as a little litmus test for non-legal situations such as, for hypothetical example, a politician who instead of discussing policy descends to ad hominem attacks. Not that there’s anyone like that, of course.

And in the situation under discussion herein, an article about personal life rather than the merits of the case indicates to me who has facts and law on their side.

Trubiandloki, sorry. I was writing my post as you wrote yours. I’m not trying to inject politics. I was just using that as a hypothetical example in a non-equine area.

If you want to make a suite against someone for libel and slander, you need to prove that what they said was not true, and then that the untrue thing they said caused harm to you.

If the things the person is saying are true or mostly true, you will probably lose the case but also you will have had no end of dirty laundry aired, and will have effectively broadcast to the community the bad things you did. And then you are liable for all court costs including the person you tried to sue.

Now sometimes local bigwigs can scare community newspapers into running retractions, if the paper really doesn’t care that much and the bigwig has deep pockets.

In this case I doubt EDH is going to launch any legal action because SD clearly has more cash on hand, and because from everything I’ve read on this thread, EDHs own horse practices will not stand close scrutiny.

She can say she’s going to take legal action. People walk around saying this all the time. Doesn’t mean anything.

Also I thought that the latest statement on SD and POTUS was that actually nothing happened. If both parties agree on that, who are we to question further?

Is it really impossible for some of y’all to just stick to a conversation about horses and bad trainers without dragging politics into it?

Pointing out that the story was as crappy as it was most likely because of politics isn’t “dragging politics into the discussion.” Every newspaper has an agenda; how they present the news is in accord with their agenda. The same is true of other media outlets as well.

OH if only! Isn’t it enough that they have over 600 some pages on their very own thread?

No! Politics is life!

(Please read the above with sarcasm)

LOL

The fact that they even mention the EDH thing in the article tells me the quality of the journalism they are presenting. Which is pretty poor, at best. I agree EDH won’t take legal action against Stormy as it is obvious she has done her due diligence with compiling all the facts and has lots more resources for a legal battle. However, I would personally enjoy seeing a person held accountable for their actions via a court of law. It can seem like the industry as a whole is full of ‘professionals’ that commit terrible acts towards their clients and/or horses and are never held accountable in any way. It’s a sticky wicket getting proof and even if you can, it seems like the governing bodies of sport always wimp out and don’t take action. I find it beyond incredible where the industry still is. We have the technology to video potentially all areas continuously during recognized competitions. Mount a camera and let it go. The video can be used by show management if needed to ensure rules compliance and help make the sport safer. Just a thought…

To Texarkanna, Denali, Sannois-You are wrong. Life is politics. Politics is the fine art of getting along in this world.

And if EDH wants to sue Stormy, she will have to get in line.

Does Stormy accept donations?

Does Stormy accept donations?

She does. There was an article on late night TV’s take on the news on either the NYTimes or The Guardian that gave the address of a crowd funding site where an account has been set up.

Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the site; I do remember it wasn’t gofundme.

This doesn’t just apply to horse shows… and Stormy would know this.

I am well aware. I was commenting on people always dragging the POTUS, the gun debate, health care etc into EVERY thread they read. This thread is about EDH’s treatment of horses NOT politics as related to our government. A thread in off topic about handling a certain situation good bad or otherwise started going in the direction of Trump and gun control. That is excessive in my opinion. That is what I mean by politics. Not politics in the sense of “office politics”, or politics involved in pony club girl/Boy Scouts etc.

A few weeks ago, the Bill Maroney at the USEF sent out an email asking people to report breaches of the rules, and he said they could be sent to the email address integrity@usef.org. Whether that asks for reports of horse abuse I do not know. I would think that competing a horse in a USEF division after it had been spun from the FEI division would be the sort of thing that they would be interested in knowing.

To each is own. Life is too short. I have seen how angry people are on those political threads. It does not change a thing. Agh, my bad, I talked politics.

It’s a safe bet that Ellen Doughty-Hume will enter Sir Oberon in this year’s K3DE. They’re also qualified for WEG. She will be in the spotlight until Obie can no longer handle that level of competition, and I think it’s at that point when she still isn’t getting any upper level prospects that we’ll see more results of her dubious business practices, along with the questionable-at-best morals.

Most recent FB post by EDH showed that she is injured with a torn calf muscle and that one of her fellow barn mates/students? is keeping Obie fit.

Em

There is obviously no love lost between Ellen and I, but I doubt a torn calf muscle will keep her from Rolex. If I have anything nice to say about the woman it would be that she is tough and tenacious.

EDH must be feeling sooo relieved that Stormy seems to have her hands full with bigger, oranger fish at the moment.
