Or not. He is having some fairly severe pain. It could be the block wearing off. Not sure. But I hope they don’t discharge him without knowing or the pain under control.

I’m so sorry he is having pain. I hope they keep him if it continues. I am always amazed how quickly they discharge patients.

They are keeping him. He’s had no iv pain meds. The block did most of the pain control. They took out the Jackson Pratt drain and that really sparked the pain.
I asked about why no iv pain meds and got the standard “concern about dependency”. But THIS is why these meds exist- post op, cancer pain, etc. Am sure I could walk a few hundred yards from the hospital to the university and get whatever I wanted. So sad. How are things really this mixed up.

Holy cow, dependency doesn’t come from short-term, immediate pain relief, and they should know full well that too much pain absolutely hinders healing

I hope they give him the proper pain relief ASAP!

He got an oral oxy and took a nap and he said the pain had lessened.
Surgeon came to check on him and evaluated him. His small bowel was resected so it’s calling into play all things abdominal right now. He was improved when I left.
We will try again tomorrow.
I am however, getting skilled at flushing the new bladder out. Yeah!

I’m glad the pain is lessening. The up side is you are perfecting your skills in the hospital where you have help if need be. Fingers crossed and jingles for tomorrow!

That’s actually great that oxy is helping him out. It’s not one of the strongest ones. I’ve had oxy as both Percocet and generic a few times, and it’s really not THAT strong. Percocet was when I had wisdom teeth out and made things quite lovely :upside_down_face: but then again I was 17/18, and generic was my hip replacement 6 months ago and it really didn’t take care of ALL the pain at all. So if that works for him fantastic <3

He’s home! He rebounded from his setback yesterday and is doing great. We took a walk around half the block and he’s watching college football :football: or trying to if the tv would cooperate.

WOW! Oxycontin knocked me out the only time I have taken it. I was prescribed a bottle after I broke my ankle years ago. I took one pill after the ER painkiller wore off. I was so dizzy and drunk I could not walk, could not stand and could not sit up. I called about my horse at the boarding barn checking up on him, lying on the floor. I did not take any more. I was afraid I would be so drunk I would fall and then I would be in bigger trouble than just having a broken ankle. But then I always was a cheap date.

That’s even better! Glad he’s home and doing so well!

@SusanO, That would probably be me. I am a weany when it comes to that. I think I could go through surgery on just Benadryl or Dramamine.

Pathology report is in and it’s very good! He had the bladder, prostate and 34 lymph nodes removed. Nothing in the nodes at all.

I have quoted our wonderful, dedicated, tireless urologic oncology surgeon:

“We can discuss his path in more detail when he comes in for his next visit, but the results are promising. His final stage is pTis and he had a small amount of incidental prostate cancer that does not require more treatment. He also does not need any more treatment for his bladder cancer. His prognosis is excellent!”
