New Forum Fun, Questions and Glitch Reports

Oh, that’s your most liked posts and threads :slightly_smiling_face:

? Most like by who? Me?

So … it’s not the subscribed threads after all.

Not sure why I would need a list of all the threads where I liked posts … ?

(p.s. I really read 6.9k posts ??? hmmm … life choices … :face_with_raised_eyebrow: )

I’ve taken a brief screen recording to show my biggest bugbear with reading a topic.

I searched for my name in the thread to find my post and then trying to get back to the top of the page feels clunky. Whenever I use the scrollbar on the side of the page it goes to the top and the minimised bar disaappears but then it shoots me back down somewhere in the thread and the minimised bar appears again. It doesn’t seem to be possible to get back to the top of the page and stay there. I can use the slider in the thread but trying to navigate between the first posts and the top of the thread results in a constant ticking over between minimised/maximised bar at the top and the user experience of it doesn’t feel good.

Page up/down/home does work but it feels like a battle between page scroll bar, thread slider and pageup/pagedown just to read through a thread and that’s a pretty big user cost just to read a thread. Particularly for large threads like this one. Browsing through a thread is probably something I’ll avoid as it’s hard work.

Also, purely from a styling perspective, the circles in the thread list that shows the name of people who have replied, it draws focus. Perhaps it’s meant to help quickly see who has replied to a thread but visually it’s harder now to read through the names of the thread titles and see which one I want to read, because there are many colourful circles that want to capture your gaze. In terms of usability they don’t provide much benefit in exchange from the hurdle to look past them. That adds to user cost, it would possibly be better without them entirely or maybe styled to not stand out so much.

Nope. Those are your posts (posted by you) that have the most likes (from other people.)

That page is kind of an “about you” … Others can view that to see what you’re all about

Subscriptions are still mia–that’s not what you’re seeing there. Mod1 is checking with the it guys to see if subscriptions can be retrieved.

Thanks for the video, that’s helpful!

When you’re going back to the top, it’ll work better if you click on the thread title, use the thread slider tool, or click on the post timestamp at the top of the slider.

If you want to go back to the search results, click on the magnifying glass–your search & results will persist

Hmmm. That’s interesting that ‘likes’ are less and less anonymous.

I guess members can see the activity page as well. That was also a feature on the last version, and of course it’s just a shortcut to a search by name.

I assume other members do not have visibility to my Notifications.

@OverandOnward I’m awake. :grinning: Would you please give a click on my name and tell me what you can see?

I’m not @OverandOnward but I woke up at 4 am for some reason :confounded: and I want to learn how to post photos so here you go:

Hmm okay just kidding…I’m not seeing the photo button that I vaguely remember from upthread, and copying the screenshot in the camera roll on my phone didn’t result in me getting the option to paste it here. I need to play with it more I guess.

So I’ll just tell you, when I click on your name it says, “This user’s public profile is hidden.”

Aha!

Apologies if this has already been asked, but will direct links start working again? When I google a topic, the threads posted here have always been a wealth of knowledge. Google has always combed the BB for content related to your search. Now when you click on the direct link in google it takes you to the main page, not the the historical thread. This is a big bummer.

This morning I was looking for info on the pro/fin panel configuration on Voltaire saddles. I can see all of the threads where this was talked about when I google it, but can’t get to those threads from google. And the search here QF is abysmal.

Everyone has always been able to see how many likes your posts have.

In the works, devs are working on it, known issue.

The search here? Wow, you think it’s bad? It’s a huge giant improvement over the search we had before. I’ve found it to be pretty spectacular, very surprised to hear you think it’s “abysmal.”

Literally the only change is that you and only you can see names of who likes your posts, and only in your notifications. Likes on the actual threads are still 100% anonymous

And the searching, @Nickelodian? What do you mean by abysmal? It ROCKS compared to the old board.

Hazzah! Your wish is granted. I went looking, and while you’re reading the thread and don’t have the message reply box open, you can enter the # sign and a pop-up will appear that will let you navigate to a specific post number in the thread.

You can find a list of all these Keyboard Shortcuts by clicking at the very bottom of the three lined “hamburger menu” by your avatar at the top of the page.

Did somebody say earlier that the different forums would pop up in the order of your most frequent views? If so, that is not happening for me. I generally only look at a couple of forums, but they don’t show at the top of my list.

The forum list when you click on the three line hamburger menu is dynamic. The forum list on the categories page is not.

There’s a post that’s pinned to the top of this forum where you can give input on the order of the forums on the categories page.

My forum list under the three line hamburger menu seems to be sorted by # of new or unread posts. I think we’re still figuring out all of the things that drive how that’s sorted…

I agree. I’ve participated in and modded vB-supported forums for at least 15 years (yikes) and it has reached its time. Better a day too soon than an hour too late, as we say. Although we may have let it go a couple hours…

Sounds like we’re in the same boat!

Do we have to pay for the IOS updates of can they be downloaded with no charge?

I have a brand new but dated(2017 still in the box) Samsung Reader that I believe will pretty much do the same as my iPad, I could switch over to it but I love my iPad.

Updates are free. It’s then a matter of whether your model will allow it.

Where do I go to find the updates?

Things have gotten much better overall except for the regular crash/reload problems.

No idea how the tablets work, but on an iphone there is a Settings which leads you to a General setting which leads you to Software Update where you can see if there are any updates evan available to you. You may well be able to update several versions, but maybe not to the latest.
