New Forum Fun, Questions and Glitch Reports

I would agree that the tiny size of the neon green makes the white numbers inside hard to read (on my desktop screen).

I see it in two places… on my avatar when I have an unread that may be of interested me and when I am looking at the Unread list of topics, there will be the same neon with number next to the topic. The white number shows the number of unread replies for that topic.

BTW. thanks for this link… looks like an interesting to me topic. I do like to keep visual accessibility in mind when I am working on PPT presentations. I realize that is not the driving focus of this link but still interesting none the less.

What raised visual accessibility to my attention was after I’d given a presentation (many years ago), someone came up to me and commented that if they were red-green color blind that some of my presentation would be unreadable . :flushed: Because I am not, just didn’t think about that.

An ironic side note, a friend of mine is color blind and his wife is an artist…

I just sent them a request to improve the contrast in those green circle notifications. Thanks!

I am still getting my bearings but this is very fun. I know it took much time, effort of many and bux to make happen. Thank you.

This sock ad though looks like it’s giving me the bird, lol.

Just started looking at the new site via kindle, and none of the posts show the name of the poster. If I click where it should be, I get the avatar and option to message them. Also, the like and edit buttons are invisible.

Is anyone else getting multiple email notifications? I seem to keep getting notifications over and over again about the same comments and activities. I’m sure there is a way to disable them, which I have not tried yet. But it seems strange that I would keep getting repeat messages.

Yeah and I appreciate that this is true.

Unless a mini-industry pops up to support the old versions of things, it’s inevitable that we have to keep updating from time to time.

I like having the latest bells, ribbons and whistles. But it is definitely costly! And when the old version is satisfying all needs, it’s an interesting. situation.

vBulletin is an example of a software that tends to release the new before it is really end-user ready, and then wants to exit the prior releases quickly. So it’s always picking the berries somewhat before they are ready, and serving their customers only those early berries. We customers never get to enjoy finished berries. That’s my experience of vBulletin, and I’m glad COTH cut ties.

I turned mine off at the beginning

This doesn’t answer the question you asked, but you can also disable those in your profile preferences under “email”

Are the multiple copies exactly the same, or like…different people liking the same post? Similar but not identical?

I think they’re identical, but I will have to double check.

Some notifications seemed to come with the update.
I clicked mine off too, no need to fill the email box up, have not received any since.

You might see this happen with hardware but less likely (it has happened) that it will happen in software. Software vendors don’t release their source code lightly and often reverse engineering is also not legal.

You and me both - I don’t need to add to the number of emails I get every day :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

vBulletin had ads on both sides, until the last bit when it was dying

It’s probably moreso the circles, I mentioned it in one of my posts above too.

The circles draw focus which makes it harder to read everything on the page around them. Every interaction with a site has a “cost” and everyone has a different amount they’re willing to “spend” before they decide interacting with a website is “too expensive”.

The circles do visually make the forum harder to read and they don’t (in my personal opinion) provide enough of a functional benefit to override the cost of having them there.

What browser do you use rockymouse? firefox/chrome/internet explorer/etc? and on a PC or on your phone/tablet?

Someone else PMed me about the Kindle issue. I’ve notified the developers. Thanks!

I just noticed this feature and I thought it is pretty neat so worth pointing out. Screen shot from a totally different thread.
The forum tells us when someone is a new poster (though in this case I am thinking it has to do with the number on the name thing).

A new poster was also highlighted as it bumped up a 13 year old thread, a possible spammer that.

Interesting feature that.

Yes, I think that could be helpful for IDing necromancy threads brought back by spammers. :woman_zombie:

I think some of those notices are only visible if you’re a certain trust level poster…maybe trust level 2, which pretty much every relatively active poster is going to be in short order!

I believe there are notices for brand new users’ first posts, for when an inactive poster posts again after a certain period of time, and to indicate that there’s been chunk of time since the previous post on a thread.

That does sound like a handy feature. How long is the time period involved? I’m tempted to bump an old thread just to try it.

Although it is entertaining sometimes to see recent posters have a hot debate about what the OP should do in a situation that actually happened years ago. Lol.

I checked everything and it seems there is nothing more I can do.

My iPad is/has been set to automatic updates and is fully updated.

I went through the checklist(clear history, browser, cookies, etc…) to troubleshoot why it may be crashing/reloading and discovered I already perform these tasks on a regular basis.

COTH is the only site that crashes and reloads, all other sites work quickly and smoothly.

A funny thing just happened. I left the page for a while, and then when I came back, I was logged out, although I did not do anything like that on purpose. Then when I clicked on the spot where it said log in, I got logged in without doing anything else.

Which is a good thing, since I probably would not remember my password at this point. But it seemed strange.
