@MHM I was also logged out this morning. Would not surprise me at all if that happens occasionally as the devs work through stuff on the back end
The reason youâre able to just click the log in button, and not enter your password here, is because the forum is better integrated with the main Chronicle siteâyouâre logged in there, so when you click âlog inâ here, it pulls from your log in status on the main page. If you ever want to log out completely, youâll just need to go do it from there.
First, I will confess that I use a desktop (iMac) for most of my internet stuff. My iPad is for things mostly like playing games or reading. I need screen real estate when Iâm doing stuff like surfing/browsing and the like.
CT, do you periodically clear out things that are running on your iPad??? The double tap and the swipe up for apps you arenât actively using?
How much memory does your iPad have?
Settings > General > About and scroll down to âCapacityâ and âAvailableâ
And what version are you running?? It was an older version IIRC?
Someone earlier pointed out to me that there were ads on both sides of the old site too. I remember this. Itâs mostly the colors and the added visual clutter of the new pages that bothers me. (I am making an effort to get used to it!)
Maybe a glitch, was posting, post went thru fine, then I was trying to post again and no way to reply, but this showing at the bottom of the thread?
Seems that the program had kicked me out as logged in and now assumed I was a guest.
I logged in again and all is well.
Still wondering why that glitch happened, seem to remember some have reported similar problems?
Here is what I read at the bottom of all threads in place of posting window tab:
â"Hello! Looks like youâre enjoying the discussion, but you havenât signed up for an account yet.
When you create an account, we remember exactly what youâve read, so you always come right back where you left off. You also get notifications, here and via email, whenever someone replies to you. And you can like posts to share the love. heartpulse
@Bluey my best guess is the devs are working on back end stuff and that might mean logging people out from time to time. Kinda like adult swim at the pool. All the kids out for a few minutes!
Yesterday evening I was reading this thread and the subject of whether you were offered âKeyboard Shortcutsâ or âMobile Viewâ on the hamburger drop-down was being discussed. At the time I was on my phone (Android) and all I saw was the Mobile View option. Today I am on my desktop and I have the Keyboard Shortcuts listed instead. So, my guess is that it depends on your platform? And whether or not you have a keyboard available (donât know if itâs that smart)?
Whaaaaa I donât have it ANYWHERE! I wish it would show on desktop.
I did add it to the FAQs, though, if anyone is in the same boat with me and canât find it
I took another lookâI donât have keyboard shortcuts under the hamburger menu in firefox, chrome, or edge, whether or not I am logged out/in or in incognito/private browsing mode.
So itâs not browser dependent, and itâs not USER dependent, and itâs not platform dependentâŠgeez, what else IS there??
YES!! I was JUST thinking through this and wondering if my laptop is being read as a tablet type device!! I have the same thing at the meta board and the demo board (took forever to find the list over at github ) so itâs definitely not the implementation here.
Sad no solution but at least thereâs an explanation!
Iâll try ? when back at the computer and see if thatâll pop it up. Keyboard shortcuts have all worked fine, just hilarious that the map is mia!
Thanks! Sorry it took me so long to get back here.
I know I can still receive PMâs and I donât put anyone on ignore (except for one newish loon that appears here very infrequently and likes to send PMs.) I only want to protect my email, even though it shouldnât be visible.
Here is another option if anyone wants to still see the posterâs avatars but maybe not as noticeably. Iâve included only the first poster and the last poster, changed them to greyscale and reduced their opacity so they do not overpower the topic title. You can still mouse-over and see who created the thread and who lasted posted, but it doesnât stand out as much.
Also, sticky thread previews have been limited to 1 line, else they take up half the screen.
Unfortunately itâs not a straight-forward modification as every different type of browser will have a different way to override a siteâs styling. CSS-overriding browser plugins will be the easiest option for most people but I donât have any experience with those. If anyone else here does and is able to recommend a good/stable one, please do.
On PC in firefox you can override a siteâs display manually without a plugin via these steps:
Open a new Firefox tab, type about:config and then click the accept the risk and continue button
Type toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets in the Search bar and click the toggle button on the right hand side. Alternatively double click the word âfalseâ until it turns to âtrueâ. Close the tab.
Open firefoxâs menu -> Help -> Troubleshooting Information
Find the Profile Directory option and click on the Open Directory button. This is where your firefox files are.
If there isnât one there already, create a folder in there called chrome, all lower case.
Inside that chrome folder, place one of the following files, depending on which display you prefer:
6a. Version without avatars: userContent.css (420 Bytes)
6b. Version with subdued greyscale avatars: userContent.css (703 Bytes)
Restart firefox
If anyone else with other browsers is able to convert the instructions and test if it works them, that would be super.
Ideally it would be preferable for the devs to add some per-user styling options but Iâm not sure if thatâs realistic.
Donât remember if someone has already mentioned this, I seem to think Simkie did somewhere, but is not in the FAQâs, just a little extra thing.
When adding a picture from my laptop to a post, if I have the preview window open, it shows the picture as it is loading.
Right below the picture, there will be an option to change the size of the picture, 100%-75%-50%.
Clicking on the smaller sizes will show a reduced picture that doesnât overwhelm the post.
Yep, I mentioned upthread itâs a 9.3.5(13G36).
Capacity is 12.5GB and it has 2.9GB still available.
I have always done all of the things like clearing browser/history/cookies/double tapping and swiping up.
I have a desk top and the use of a MacBook Pro, I donât use either unless I have to because the size of the keyboards and the constant clicking is very hard on my RA hands/wrists.
