New Forum Fun, Questions and Glitch Reports

I see the same thing on an actual desktop and my chromebook which apparently gets treated as a real desktop. I don’t see it on my phone. It looks great though if that can carry over to all views. Subtle but enough to make it pop out from the rest of the post.

I agree–it looks great! If we can see that everywhere, that would be awesome!

Same here.

Okay, stupid question - how do you select text to quote on a phone? If I long press, I get just the word my finger is on. If I choose “select all” I get the whole thread.

HA! Just figured it out. Never mind!

Anyway, I saw the shaded screen shots on me desktop, but am not seeing them on my phone.

What kind of phone?

On my Android, I long press to start the select process, and that gives me little handles on either side of the text that’s selected. I can drag those handles to select more text.

I can do screen shots if that’s helpful?

Oh I see you got it! Never mind :joy::joy:

I get the drag handles too, I’m just not very adept at using them. What I found was the talk bubble at the top left of the reply screen, when replying to a particular post. Click that and it puts the entire post you’re replying to in quotes.

Excellent! Yep, that’s another great way to quote

I’m hopeless with those things.

Thanks for all the diagnostic work going on here while I was gone!

So, it looks like current issues to investigate are:

  1. shadows on images not appearing on mobile devices (or devices the site thinks are mobile).

  2. frequent logouts when navigating to outside links opening in a new page or for some people when navigating to different pages within the site…potentially on Safari.

I’m using Safari and not experiencing that issue. Curious: if you log out of the main site and just log in to the Forums, do you still have the problem?

ETA: I had been logged out of the main site, so I logged in there too, and navigated to other pages both on and off the site, and I haven’t had any problem with being logged out, so it’s not a universal Safari issue. Hmmm…

Just in case this is helpful for diagnostics.

I realized that if I’m using the desktop view on my phone, I still get logged out involuntarily, but then it logs me in automatically when I come back. On the mobile view, it doesn’t log me back in until I click in the appropriate spot.

This is on Safari with my iPhone.

Not appearing on my desktop either. I took a screen shot of the (now infamous? ) post 787 and there’s no shadow

Hmmm, maybe my phone was glitchy, I see the option now. It’s worse on the phone!!! Oh well. It seems this platform is best for desktop. At least in my opinion.

I’m certainly not having that experience, and am more than happy to help you troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your phone

JB, your screen shot of the now infamous (sorry I picked on that particular post for no reason but the first one I stumbled over with a shadow  ) has a shadow for me in your post :flushed:

Safari, desktop AFAIK.

FF or MS Edge, no shadows :woman_shrugging:

Touchscreen computer?

As far as shadows on screen shots - on a desk top, using chrome, no touch screen or such I can see the shadows. On my chromebook with a touch screen, using chrome, mobile view I do not see any shadows on screen shots.

Yep - bet that’s the killer - rude!!

Thanks for winnowing the missing shadow issue down. I’d last reported it as not showing up on mobile or touchscreen devices, which seems to be holding true, so we’ll see if they can do anything about that. :+1:
