Beautiful mare and foal. Congradulations
Congratulations!!! She is absolutely beautiful, as is Mom!
Wow…beautify filly.
From what I can see, she’s going to be a big girl…tell Peter he’ll need to eventually to get a bigger mounting block!
It is what Peter hopes, but I do not have a big hope - both parents are 16.2h, and from stallion everybody is about the same size. Shella’s lines have some 16.3h, but no 17+ monsters like our Giva and Guido.
The main thing - Shella is very careful and loving mum with senses - she lets not only us to do everything with baby, but also lets dogs one by one to sniff baby and i can see that dos know exactly that the new one is a baby - they ae so careful when baby is getting close. Shella just watches a bit and then relaxes again. Tonight probably we shall leave both outside with a shed for free run-in.
It is so fascinating to see how lil one is learning about the world here.
Congratulations! Beautiful filly!
Awww, she’s a beauty! And Shella looks great! Enjoy the babyhood!
Congratulations Anna!! She’s lovely! The picture of Shella, Peter and Sonora brought tears to my eyes!
Giant congrats to you and Peter! What a lovely filly!!! Wow, look how far you’ve come since you got Puika and started this thread. What a joy it’s been to follow along with you.
CocoMare, Puika is enjoying life so much! The main thing - he had not colicked at once this year - good company, a lot of movements and voila! - he seems to be cured. I’m so happy about him. He is still a handful, but a very happy handful. And he tries his heart out to be a good horse, we can see it.
All the herd is overexcited with the new foal - we keep them in separate paddock, of course, but others are on their best behavior.
And I really do hope that we shall be able to cure Guido, he is such a good boy.
And his pedigree is not bad at all

He looks like he likes jumping and he might jump well. Or at least we shall find him an owner- hobby rider who will be proud to have one with Furioso II and Voltaire down the line.
But… I’m still a novice! When I called vet to tell that the great moment as started, I told vet that “it looks like all goes well, and mare actually do not need your help, but I need!” So vet arrived to calm me down and to tell me that all goes well.
How many years it will take until I will start feel like I do know something? How many yearsyou had been around horses until you started feel confident about things?
Congrats on the foal, she’s beautiful!!!

Well, Anna, just when you feel as though you know something, horses have a way of making you remember how little you really know.
Congrats on the gorgeous foal!
Well, I’m sorry to say this, but we have a new rescue and again - a new problem. The filly arrived this morning, and so far is doing quite good. Her story (with pictures) here

I just love the excitement of working with rescues. Today Guido surprised us - he voluntary started some dressage elements. Who had trained him to do so, we have no idea as all info that we collected so far - he had only showjumping training.
Here is very poor video, but if you will repeat few first seconds of video, you will spot the things
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0NXAZ1N87o
Peter also has no idea about dressage, and he was not able to ask such things, but today Guido was really happy as Giva was also riding along, so he was showing the best of him.
New yearling is very attached to Shella, so now we have one mother with two babies. I do not like it because of the quarantine reasons, but again - if new filly needs comfort from Shella so much, and Shella has “adopted” her - I will just watch things even more carefully

So new girl went out today for an hour this morning and again was out for another hour this afternoon - so far so good. When she tries running after our lil Sonora it is painful just to watch, but I believe that she will improve - she is much better already.
Socializing is going very well - she already comes to humans in the field and walks back inside easy.
Sonora now is 8 days old, yesterday state officials were here to do all the paperwork for her passport.

Just wanted to share my favorite picture

(Saphire, Giva and Peter on Guido)
And another proud moment - Sonora II got her passport today so from now she is registered at the gov register.
WONDERFUL, I can see why this is your most favorite pic.
So nice to see Peter get on so well with Guido. Guido seems totally happy with his newfound life and new rider :).
Oh yes, I can totally see the dressage potential in Guido , how about combined training for Guido, dressage & jumping… shall we try to convince Peter :).
Lieslot, I like dressage, probably more than showjumping but I presume convincing Peter would be not a problem…
He can jump but at present seems his jumping technique are developing backwards -
(see what I mean
http://i450.photobucket.com/albums/qq222/ozolkalni/12-06-09/PICT1811.jpg
).
So if we shall push him into dressage, it will take maybe 30 years until he will get to the beginner level - Guido can not wait so long
But yes, Guido now is a completely different horse. I’m sure that he is happy and much easier to ride. We still do not have idea what was (and maybe is) his problem, but since we had put him on Vetri-Cine, he had improved so much. The idea with Verti-Cine was something like that - “let’s try, maybe it will help, and at least it has no side effects so it is quite safe to give him. No harm will be done.”
Now I’m trying to go backwards, like “as Vetri-Cine had helped him so much, what was his problem?”
Anna, because the new rescue filly was not exposed to other horses I would imagine she probably does not have any contagious diseases. (I am referring to your “New yearling is very attached to Shella, so now we have one mother with two babies. I do not like it because of the quarantine reasons, but again - if new filly needs comfort from Shella so much, and Shella has “adopted” her - I will just watch things even more carefully”). What does the Vet think? I imagine your new rescue project will thrive with both Shella and Guido socializing her and teaching her how to be a horse.
I like that favorite picture too!
Filly was exposed to the other horses, at least much more than to humans - it is why she is looking for other horses so much (I saw 3 seized horses from the same farm, but there were more as I had been told). But no horse seized from the farm were showing any signs of contagious diseases - adult horses were up to date with their vaccines as well, all in all the only problem was - overall condition how they were kept and fed which was really damaging the young ones.
Deworming is another problem, but it is not a big deal in general.
My vet give her clear general health bill as well as vet looking after her for a week (the week between she was seized until transported forward to me) but there is always a slim chance that something is in without any signs.
There is still a slim chance of infection, but I would worry much more by taking in a horse who had been around shows and exposed to many different horses - this herd was quite isolated - last “stranger” was there 2 years ago, when the stallion was visiting the place. I do not know how is situation at your end, but here chances to get something is more at the posh stables near city when horses are actively going around as well as humans, but lonely rural stables are quite safe.
We can run now!
Saphire now can run - still not long but it is already a run!
See, this is all about riding now

Sapphire must think she’s in heaven with those big pastures, free movement, and social environment! Big congrats for rescuing this filly
