I think the 18 moving on to the individual final are the top 18 scores overall. It’s fairly “one note” country wise, which is a bit disappointing.

Sad for Team USA. I actually liked that they chose 1 up-and-comer in Jane, one veteran rider with a different horse in Adrienne, and one veteran rider with veteran horse in Steffan. It felt like a good strategy, but just didn’t pan out this time.

Top 2 from each group, plus the next 6 highest scores from all groups.

Loved to see how loose the curb rein was for Dalera!

I think this and “top 18 overall” ended up being one and the same.

Exactly. There wasn’t anyone who qualified who wouldn’t have if they had just taken the top 18 with no groups.

She was talking about a pirouette there and John corrected her but he was wrong, it is 4 beats.

Oh interesting! This generally isn’t the case with hockey and football playoffs which have a similar structure.

I think partially the heats allow judges mental breaks since there are so many rides to judge, which is good! But if the goal for this system was to create more diversity in the individual final…it wasn’t really successful.

You think Lucinda talks too much - go over to E channel, Randy Moss doesn’t stop talking and about NOTHING! He talks to talk… I have to hit mute whenever he starts speaking turn off mute and he is still speaking…annoying!..

Nah, I think I will miss that one Danvers. If it is anything like other coverage NBC does, they will be making comparisons to football no matter HOW dumb the comparisons are.

I got the distinct impression that horse went backwards at least one step in every piaffe . . .

The individual scores are very interesting. I have recorded the rides and will watch with this sheet. On a general impression, I feel that the Danish rider was wayyyyy over scored, so will be interesting to see my eye vs judges.

Have you ever gone back 15-20 years and looked at some of the top 3 medallists? I was thinking that might be fun to do. I have watched some of the old eventing rides but have not looked at the dressage ones in a while.

The biggest inconsistency I kept seeing was with extended trots. Would be curious if you see more!

There is no logic to how they schedule everything. I wish Melanie and Randy would talk much less.

Ok…now you have the nerd in me curious. I will download copy of the test and the scores and look at variation by movement…give me a few days.
