I think they’d have to qualify for the team final (which they can’t with only 2 scores) before they had the opportunity to sub in Endel.
I wish there was a way to prove it was clearly due to the antics…I get it’s a welfare issue and I am very happy the stewards are upholding the standards, but it’s a really tough situation.
Yes, small scratch on RH is being reported.
The team is showing up as eliminated in the standings
The commentary is lovely.
Awful for the US. That’s horses but…blah. And a tough news cycle to get an accidental nick. I guess Steffen and Adrienne can focus on their individual rides and maybe have less pressure to do well for the team? But overall a disappointing day.
US equestrian’s had a bit of a rough go this Olympics so far. Hopefully the rest of the rides go smoothly for dressage and showjumping.

“Order to go”
GROUP D does not show up on the official online scoring.
What a bummer about the US team elimination… but I think with all the scrutiny (particularly in dressage with Charlotte’s withdrawal going mainstream viral) the judges are being especially cautious. They almost have to.
Hopefully our other US riders can be relaxed and go for individual placings!
Commentators just said Kittel and Moody are expected to qualify to individual finals from this group. I hope Adrienne can somehow sneak in there. Anything can happen…
Thanks!
The top 2 from each group, and the top 6 by score who didn’t qualify from their groups will go on to the freestyle. Even if she’s not in the top 2, if she can hit ~74% (they are guessing on the cutoff) she has a shot of getting out based on overall placing.
Comparing the list online to this one, I think the groups are just mislabeled on the main site.
This Moldovan rider is looking very soft, lovely test to watch.
Oh yes I forgot about the top 6 who aren’t in the top 2! Alright, all hope isn’t lost.
that answers the question I was about to ask … what happens if you have the bad luck of being in a group with two of the best in the world?
thank you for answering before I asked!
I mean I get it, but going back to watch the test…going all that way to be eliminated for that tiny little scratch is frankly ridiculous. I get blood in the mouth or from spurs, but elimination for a scratch on the hind leg doesn’t seem fair at all. The rider can’t reach down and whack the hind leg to make it get scratched. It really just doesn’t make sense. It’d be like DQing a human athlete because they nicked themselves with a fingernail while scratching an itch.
I like the How to Train Your Dragon theme playing during the Korean rider’s trot work. Really nice to see more Asian countries sending out riders at this level.
Yep - skipped D and labeled last group as G instead of F.
100% agree - especially because soundness didn’t seem to be in question. I have no idea why they aren’t using a separate in and out gate like they did for eventing, it doesn’t make sense.
Edited to add - if it was a horse without white socks the judges wouldn’t have seen it.
I believe the Korean rider normally trains in Germany. Commentators didn’t quite emphasize how short notice this was - he found out at the end of June he was qualified for the Olympics.
