Interesting that fence #12 was no problem until the last few horses.
Could it be a change to the lighting as the sun moves affecting the way it looks? Or are these just less experienced combinations having an issue?
the link someone posted earlier this morning makes it look like a straight vertical wall, perhaps what we are all seeing as a trick fence is just an optical illusion??
Commentary team here absolutely cursing some riders just said the Canadian rider was doing a good job of the course and right away, fence down.
Ahā¦just not Catch Me Notās luck. Sad for Peder.
I have the volume turned off so I donāt have to listen to them. After tomorrowās event is over I think everyone on COTH should email/write/call NBC and complain about Randy/Meredith/Lucinda and request a change in commentators! I know those people have contracts but maybe they wonāt be renewed if there are enough complaints.
I havenāt seen a photo from the ground, but is it a rhombus? John Kyle mentioned itās covered in little hearts and horse head icons, so it looks like a āmagic eyeā poster
It looks like it is a straight up vertical wall, shaped like a parallelogram, and the pattern on it makes it look slanted towards the horse (aka jumping backwards) from our point of view.
Honestly, just having 3 sets for each discipline would be great. Lucinda was fine during eventing cause it was the first Olympic event and itās her expertise. Iād love to have a dressage specialist commentate dressage, and a showjumper for showjumping however.
Just popping in, so I donāt know if the course has been posted yet.
For those who donāt do Facebook, hereās a screenshot.
I love how much the French crowd loves their riders!
Thank you Tackpud
And for good reason!
I believe itās a vertical wall, but the paint job gives an optical illusion. I was confused by it until they showed it from a different angle.
The commentator also mentioned that the different bricks are numbered to make it easier to reassemble it in a hurry in case a horse demolishes the whole thing.
I wonder if that was part of the test they used when they were hiring the jump crew. Lol.
I really hope Laura can sneak through, but Iām nervous.
I really hope Lauraās score holds on ahhhh. Some big names coming up.
The best ever commentator for eventing IMO was Bill Steinkraus, Seoul 1988, he was amazing. He might have been a showjumper but his comments were spot on, it was wonderful listening to him, I still have it on VHS. A really good all around horseman could do it all but there are so few of them around nowadays.
The system doesnāt really encourage all-around riders, to be fair. Which is a shame, because I love dipping my toes into other disciplines, just for funsies.
Steinkraus came up in the day when you learned lots of things and THEN specialized. I believe he also won a lot in saddle seat equitation as a junior.
Letās go McLain!
