I was just thinking the same thing. That picture sort of reminds me of my old STB when he was young and growing like a bad weed, but he was never that thin, though he always had what my DH called a pencil neck.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN you gotta slick, shiny horse WITHOUT western alfalfa??
Sorry. I just canât get over Kate bragging about her magik green alfalfa when her horses look like they should be seized by the state. Your horse is lovely.
Horses arenât magically immune to the effects of malnutrition and starvation on their foals anymore than humans are immune to it.
Iâm not posting a link to the snippet below because I donât know the bona fides of the organization and how closely it hews to its stated purposes - but this part is hard to argue.
Hunger and Maternal Health: A Close Relationship
When a mother is undernourished during pregnancy, her own nutritional health isnât the only health at stake. Any complications brought on by low nutrition during pregnancy, such as anaemia, hypertension, miscarriages, premature delivery, or maternal death, will have an affect on her child as well. Many children born to mothers who are undernourished will likely grow up stunted or with malnutrition themselves. As the UNFPA points out, as these children grow up (especially girls), their options and autonomy will be equally stunted.
Stunting, wasting, and other health complications that come from a lack of proper food and nutrients are contributors to the cycle of poverty. The related health issues that come from this very preventable cause include lower cognitive skills (which means they wonât get as much out of their education), chronic health issues, and fewer opportunities to reach their full potential and â ideally â break the cycle of poverty. When we talk about poverty being generational, this is what we mean.
This doesnât just affect individuals and families. Communities and even countries suffer when we donât consider the health of expecting and new mothers and their children.
I doubt sheâll read this, but Iâm posting this portion anyway. (Bold font is mine - MS)
When evaluating the sick neonatal foal one must always remember that the disease processes at work in the foal may have had their origins in utero. Maternal illness, maternal malnutrition, maternal toxin exposure, placentitis, and placental insufficiency all have the potential to profoundly influence the development and maturation of fetal metabolism. Studies investigating the role of a ârestrictedâ uterine environment on fetal development have demonstrated lifelong impairment of growth and development in affected foals.929
They arenât worthless but they sure arenât the quality animals or the quality OF animals she thinks they are and is presenting them to be
I am very sorry for your experience, but thank you for sharing it here.
Have a random question. How do we really know the facts that the mares have the semen of the stallions she says they do?
Wait, what?
I donât know any serious trainers who would be swayed because the horses in these photos happen to belong to their braider.
DNA testing.
She means that because Kate is highly visible she represents American breeding to people when in fact there are plenty of good American breeders who arenât as visible who DO have quality horses.
Agree, but do the yahooâs buying her horses even know to ask. Her paperwork is probably sketch. idk, just more doo doo in the whole mix.
Oh they wonât buy anything, theyâll just think âif thatâs the second best KWPN bred in America, good thing I buy all mine in Europeâ and perhaps not take the time to find and meet the people doing it right.
At the risk of repeating myself: Wait, what?
I know a lot of braiders. I donât think their dog or horse breeding hobbies are really elevated that much due to their professional connections.
I mean, if they happen to produce nice horses or dogs, they do have direct access to people who could be interested in them. But that doesnât make their dogs or horses likely to influence anyone elseâs opinion if theyâre not such nice animals.
Thatâs a good question, on the 2023s and in uteros at least. Theyâre not registered, so no DNA on them?
Well⊠I think it is quite noteworthy that she is offering not one, but TWO Nabab de Reve foals for sale in utero⊠just saying.
Iâve never purchased a foal in utero and am unfamiliar with how the contracts typically work. I would imagine that significant documentation from the vets that are handling all the associated repro work is part of it? Maybe they would include details concerning straws used, how they were labeled, etc, in their reports? And maybe documentation/reports related to the semen used is also included as part of the contract?
Hopefully as someone ostensibly studying law, the implications of selling horses under the guise of being registerable upon birth (I havenât looked at her ads but given the KWPN inspections, I assume thatâs part of the sales pitch) only for the DNA required for registration to come back saying âlol jk thatâs not the sireâ is a fraud too far.
Or, you know, a gigantic lawsuit in the making. Talk about setting yourself to be taken to the cleaners.
I find it a little hard to believe that a clinic doing this high end and expensive procedure would go along with intentional fraud in the identity of the sire. Why would they? Whatâs in it for them? I suppose if someone gave them the semen incorrectly labeled⊠but that seems like a lot of trouble to go through only to create a really easy situation to be caught in? Anyone can DNA type these stallions⊠easilyâŠ
Every foal registered with KWPN-NA is DNA tested for sire and dam. It is part of the process, whether or not you go to a Keuring. You send in hair from the foal.
They must also be microchipped. They send you the chip and a vet must insert it, then fill out the paperwork before you receive your registration papers.
Can you register without attending the Keurig or evaluation event? Because she only did that once in 2022, and not for all the foals?
Keurings are not required for registration. KWPN canceled keurings due to COVID for two years as well. If the foals have full papers, both parents have been DNA verified. It is safe to say that any foals that attended Keurings do have full papers.
Omg that was priceless
