Yep - according to Google, his net worth is in the billions while his ex-wife’s is in the millions, so it appears that he’s not the one who married up in that instance.

Again, I guess it depends on your definition of “married up.” Lol.

Does anyone know if she is still riding? Or back to riding? I know she had a baby not too long ago.

Best of luck to both of them going forward, for that matter.

As a Canadian, I am struggling to cheer for the Canadian team in light of the Eric Lamaze fiasco. At least two of the riders on this team almost certainly knew EL was being less than honest, and the other two likely suspected.

That somewhat taints them in my opinion.

She posted an Instagram story with videos of her riding again recently, so she’s at least back riding for fun.

I don’t think he ever had any aspirations to become a famous actor, so I wouldn’t consider him to have been marrying up when he married the actress. But you’re right, that term can mean different things to different people.

Good for her. Thanks for the info!

3 rails for Karl Cook. His horse doesn’t look the most rideable

Oof for Karl.

I sort of meant “average looking” and “not movie star famous” rather than “poor.” And I meant “dude,” not “dud.” I’m not trying to be that mean

And for the record, I am not one of those people who thinks he married up and therefore should be brought down a peg or one of those people who resents him because he dresses kooky sometimes. I was just answering TWilson’s question of WHY some people like to tear him down online and why he seems to get more of that than other people. I’m NOT one of those people but he definitely gets more negative online attention due to his former marriage and the way he acts/dresses/posts being non-traditional for many equine pros.

Karl had three rails today for 12 faults. Overall total individual faults of 31.28 so far.

Duly noted. Lol.

Mr. Darcy looks like a very cute horse, going around in a plain looking snaffle.

I thought it looked good starting off, then after halfway through you could see that the she took over completely. Hopefully Laura and Kent can go clean….

Agreed, that’s what I meant about rideable. Not sure I would have picked that horse for a championship like this where we need results

I know a lot of people don’t like hi or his “walking and talking” stuff.
However, I am gutted for him and this showing. He looks nervous. The horse looks factious.
It looks like a hard ride and he’s usually good with those kinds.
I wanted him to have a better showing than this.

As for young talent - I had this thought the other day.
McLain, Laura, and Kent can’t go on forever. Beezie is already reitred.
International Competition is expensive and tiresome.
So who is next? Who is having strong showings of being the next upper level talent and team?
I didn’t think Karl was a terrible choice, because he’s been pretty hot lately.
It’s just been a bad show for him. :pensive:

I will say, speaking of young talent (even though he’s riding for Colombia) - Nico Gamboa.
He’s got so much promise and has some excellent horse flesh under him riding CH’s horses!

I think it’s the latter more than the former, since I believe it was happening before his marriage to somebody famous. And continued afterwards for the same reason.

I did get that from your post - sorry if I didn’t convey that well in my follow ups!

Yes it’s not so much Karl I question being on the team but doesn’t he have another horse, Kalinka? I thought that was his top horse he’d been having the great results with lately I hadn’t heard of this one before (I don’t follow show jumping much anymore)

Jessica Springsteen, Lillie Keenan, and some others would be great picks who have experience showing at this type of level. I wish Ashlee Bond rode for the US, and some other people, like Nico, who base out of the US but ride for other countries.

I feel like all of Karl’s horses go around looking like they’re about to run away with him, but maybe he likes a very hot ride. But at this level, over these tracks, you need to have a rideable horse.

Lillie Keenan is actually there at the PanAms, but as the traveling reserve.

That’s a long way to go with your horse to not put on your riding clothes.
