Yes, but maybe should’ve switched Lillie and Karl…but I’m not Robert Ridland, so my opinion doesn’t matter lol

Kent Farrington likes hotter rides too right? But he makes them look smooth and adjustable.

I agree with everything you’ve said about Karl. I think Lillie finally has a nice string of horses that she has really good partnerships with right now so I expect we’ll see good things from her. Not sure where Jessica Springsteen has been - she only pops up every now and then it seems. I always thought we’d see Katie Dinan on teams but I don’t think she has been since she had that little chestnut powerhouse. She has some nice horses right now and she just won a big class. But I don’t know the ins and outs of showing at this level on teams so maybe there’s an obvious explanation that I just don’t know of.

Karl is the son of a Billionaire.

Kaley was Marrying up. Not Karl.

To be fair, Karl Cook has won a lot and been very successful in the ring in the last couple of years, regardless of what anyone may think of him.

This is obviously just not his week for whatever reason.

It looks like Amy Millar was wearing a red vest that had black patches on the side of it? I don’t remember the other Canadian riders having the black patches on the sides.

I think that was an air vest.

Yes, no doubt.

I just wonder why they did not make it a solid color if they were going to make it red to match the jacket.

He’s had some big wins with this one this season - last month he won both the $145,100 CSI3* and the $650,000 CSI5* American Gold Cup at Traverse City. Unfortunate about the rideability issues today, the first half started so much better.

Gosh you really are on a roll lately.

Karl rode at the same training facility I did when he was junior. He is an absolutely lovely, respectful human who works SO HARD and has since he was kid. He is incredibly kind and thoughtful to his horses, and has worked with the best in the world since becoming an adult so that he can constantly improve himself.

His family is insanely wealthy from back in the early tech days. That should not in any way detract from the fact that he is a brilliant and naturally talented rider who also works very hard.

I also don’t get the hate - he’s certainly a little offbeat, but absolutely deserves to be on a team based on his performances.

This horse has been brilliant for him leading up to the Pan Ams. There is something about the arena/atmosphere that has it way off it’s game.

To be fair to @vxf111, I didn’t read the post as denigrating Karl but explaining why people seem to love to bash him. He got more attention after marrying someone famous (I get he was wealthy but people.com wasn’t writing articles about him before he got married), putting him on more people’s radar, and then his non-traditional dress and views (and being outspoken about them) made him an easy target for people who want someone to complain about.

I don’t think it has any reflection on who he is as a person, but just that in a very conservative, traditional sport where showing in a dark plum jacket is controversial, people are going to love to hate on the guy with a loud helmet who posted a video telling people they shouldn’t put their heels down.

I was excited to see him on a team too - he’s had a great year with two very talented mares.

I’m impressed by some of these younger riders making it around this big track at an international championship, even with errors - I can’t imagine the nerves.

US is back at it - come on Kent!

Kent was clear!!!

And McLain gave him a little fist bump as he left the ring.

I agree with everything here. I just always keep racking my brain with who is coming up & who is next. If we make it this year, it will be interesting to see who gets to be on the team.

I think it’s natural for people to have a little bit of jealousy over riders who may work hard, but can also do things like hire an Olympic medalist to be your personal coach full-time.

I’m not saying it is right, but it hits the same nerve as Ann Glavan’s article addressing the “just try harder” attitude in COTH recently. I’m glad for him that he’s finding success, but it’s not a story most people can relate to.

Unlike Kent Farrington, who by the way really got it done just now. Go Kent!

Drag break again.

McLain is still in the lead in the individual standings, and the US is now in second place in the team standings with one rider left to go.

The top 30 in the individual standings come back for their final round on Friday to determine the individual medals.

The horse went beautifully in a hackamore with Julian Epaillard but clearly needs a finessed ride. Perhaps this competition just came to soon for them. Definitely a strange choice

Some great rides for Argentina today.
