Parelli have split

But not Pat’s. From all accounts, Jesse is an accomplished horseman in his own rights. Interesting that he should choose to turn his back on Pat’s program (at 5*, that was a hefty financial investment) rather than be told he could not support Linda as well.

Says more about the state of Pat, Parelli Inc, and the management than it does about Linda.

I’m not defending PP. I do think one can sufficiently chock a BP trailer for training. Do I? No. Could I? Yes.

Carry on.

You know that it’s not worth the risk, especially when attempting to get a flighty (in this case) bad loader in the trailer. That’s the important bit. :slightly_smiling_face:

I once put a quiet horse in an unhitched trailer for loading practice when I was a stupid child. He got his rope halter stuck and panicked.

I was lucky, the float didn’t tip, some adults ran and rescued my horse with a knife to cut the rope. I got a hell of a verbal lecture - I had no idea I’d done wrong. My horse was so goddamn lucky, and he was a saint of a horse that you could ride anywhere without some much as a boo. He just… got a fright.

I kept that halter (a Parelli one) for years as a reminder.

I never loaded a horse again in an unhitched float.

Guess whose book I was reading as a kid, and getting my “float loading practice” ideas from? And whose video I had?

After a totally different incident where, again, a rope halter loop inexplicably got wedged and the horse had to be cut out of the float after he tore it apart (another quiet horse, bee in float) - this time with an angle grinder!! - I will now never again put a horse on a float with a rope halter. Also I saw the jockey wheel fail on a float as we were hitching it up. No reason, just something let go. Me and a girlfriend had to bodily lift that bugger up on to a jack to get it on the towhitch. Things to ponder.

(Horse #1 never ever got over that fright and was allowed to become a difficult and frightened loader, again through my ignorance at causing the accident and being unable to help him work through the fright after. Horse #2, who ended up with a stallion divider being cut off his leg, loaded just fine next time around. Go figure.)

Whatever one thinks of all things connected with the name Parelli (my opinion of the program is low), that was a heartfelt statement and most probably an agonizing choice. This split is taking a heavy emotional toll on some people, at least.

If I’ve understood the underground history correctly, Linda was the marketer. My guess is that she will come out of the split with the most students and the biggest program. And probably continue to build it from there. She’s the one who had the formula. Aside from any horse training that might or might not be going on.

Will take a guess that Linda will eventually drop the Parelli last name, as soon as she thinks she doesn’t need it.

And that while doubtless many Parelli followers will stay with one or the other (especially those who were active certified trainers) a lot of Parelli students will be unable to decide between them and will gradually drop both of them.

Would love to see whatever statement Pat has issued that is forcing Parelli-ites to choose either himself or Linda. And how he will know which students are maintaining ties with Linda.

It has nothing to do with what I “wish”. It is unsafe, which is why you would not do it.

That video is a terrible example for novice horse owners, and novice horse owners are the target of this money making scheme, “guiding beacon”, “horsemanship learning adventure”, or the “horsinality” marketing idea that came to L.Parelli “in a dream” notwithstanding. What a bunch of bunk.
They remind me of the television religious nuts that take money from old folks and bank millions. Yuck.

I have not defended Parelli at all. Next.

I do understand that. You seemed to believe at first that loading a horse into an unhitched trailer was ok for some folks but that you wouldn’t do it.
The Parelli weirdness I quoted had nothing to do with you, I was quoting from @Old_Mac_Donald’s post that quoted the rambling on from an acolyte of the Parelli’s. Sorry if I wasn’t clear about that.

That really reminds me of this song.

The angst, the emotion and drama that is expressed in that Facebook soliloquy is what one would expect from a teenager, and invoking “god” is just the end.
It’s bizarre that this person is so emotionally invested in their riding instructors (do they actually teach people to ride or just teach people how to unsafely load horses into trailers?)
Such hero worship doesn’t seem healthy coming from an adult mind.

These are the lyrics that reminded me of the person that OMD quoted. (The trainer who seemed so very invested in the personal lives of his/her Parelli mentors and the drama of their personal problems.) Some people fall for it, whether it be traveling TV horse trainers or sleazy TV “ministers”.

If you can’t handle the screaming guitars here are some of the lyrics;

“I exploit you, still you love me, I tell you one and one makes three, I’m the cult of personality.”

“I know your anger, I know your dreams, I’ve been everything you want to be, I’m the cult of personality”.

“I sell the things you need to be, I’m the smiling face on your TV, I’m the cult of personality”

“You gave me fortune, you gave me fame, you gave me power in your god’s name. I’m every person, you need to be, I’m the cult of personality”.

It’s not a wish. It’s unsafe, unless you want to hire a 1400lb gorilla to sit on the coupler. It’s a matter of physics, not opinions.

I do this all the time when working on loading. I use large cement blocks to support the whole front of the trailer ( both sides) as well as the back. It is more stable than when it is hitched to the tow vehicle, actually.

That way I can keep my trailer in 1 area and not tie up the truck.

I think this falls into the category of - Just because you do it does not mean it is the right thing to do.

I didn’t tell you( or anyone else) to do it. If you don’t feel safe then don’t do it but don’t criticize those of us who can do things differently and do it safely.

But it is not safe. That is why it has forever been one of the most basic trailer loading rules.
Just because the world has not imploded for you while doing it does not mean it is a safe thing to do.

Can we leave off the debate over who is Right about practice trailer loading? It’s getting very boring.

Perhaps all can agree that, no matter what is posted in this thread, no one will change their mind. So it is pointless to keep badgering.
