Would ya mind sharing with me about what all they’ve gone without? (I’m serious, not joking) I’d want to hear it, if you can spare the time? I really do want to get where they are, just minus some of the negativity that a few have shown maybe…? :)
I don’t know what all they’ve gone without. No more than you do.
But I tend to assume people on COTH are more like me than unlike me… meaning they love horses, love riding, and worked hard to get whatever riding/riding education and/or horses they have.

The negativity you’re receiving is that which you invite by the tone of your posts.
Ask your English teacher what that means.

“This is the trainwreck that never ends! Yes, it goes on and on my friends…”

Wish has been as negative as anyone else on this thread. She just couches in passive agressive "LOL"s and “just joking” and underhanded stereotyping about “people” but Oh, she doesn’t mean YOU.
Gorgonzala: I did not mean all people, I did mean a few, but hopefully there are not many people like that. I did not know, though, that I ignored any advice… can you fill me in please?
People told you to work at the store, save up and pay for lessons on your own. You said you didn’t want to, even though your parents were willing to let you have that job.
You ignored the advice of many to take that job, so you could turn some of your ‘can’ts’ into ‘cans’- but you said you wouldn’t. You ignored that advice- which was really good advice!

Those are passive agressive, too. Says something nasty then puts a wink and a smiley next to it. LOL! Hah hah , just kidding.

That’s what I did to get where I got.
I did what I could, where I was, with what I had.
Some people will be willing to do that, and others will make excuses for why they can’t. Simple.

Or, to quote OP:

“Just kidding, but seriously.”

OP, you have two more horses than me at your age. So…
Yes, I live in MT, the land of rugged beauty, and yes, in a lot of places, we don’t have ‘much’, (e.g., fancy training barns, a high society horse-life)
I won’t get into what everyone else has already covered, but please don’t assume that we all ride at multimillion-dollar stables and spend our weekends at “high society” parties.

Those stables and lifestyles are the domain of the vast minority of horse people. You’ll see them in a lot of photos because who doesn’t dream of being able to own or board at that type of facility some day, but they are not common. Most of us give our horses the best that we can give them to the best of our means, and while it might not be “fancy”, our horses are in excellent condition and they live in a clean, safe environment.

That’s all that we’re trying to help you accomplish. We want you and your horses to be safe and happy. No one is asking you to do anything “fancy” or to pretend that you are someone you’re not. All that we are asking is that you keep an open mind and don’t subscribe to the argument that because others have managed not to get themselves killed without formal training, that you are somehow better without it, too.

Each person takes a slightly different path in their horsey life, and there’s nothing wrong with that provided we all have our horses’ best interests in mind and keep an open mind so that we can learn from others before repeating their mistakes.

Wish,
Here is my advice:

Go to the library* and check out every book about horse care that you can find. I think you will be surprised by what you do not know. Work on making yourself a better horseperson before you worry too much about the riding. Before I finally got my own horse I read anything I could get my hands on about horses, and I learned a LOT. Don’t just assume that because you’ve been around horses that you know everything already.

Becoming a competent horseperson is a life long experience. I know that I look back on things I did as a teenager and cringe. Please look in to joining a club or even having another local horseperson to come over and give you some advice. If you were local I would have no problem coming over to look at your horses and speak with your parents about why training is necessary.

From what you have written it’s clear that you have a lot to learn. Please listen to the advice people are giving you and work to make yourself better!

*P.S. You can read millions of things for free online. I suggest you start with going back to the basics.

I think this is a 40 year old guy in an undershirt living in his mother’s basement in New Jersey and yanking all of your chains. (insert smiley smiley LOL just kidding smiley smiley.)

She doesn’t even have to go to the library! People (myself included) have given her plenty of links to information and videos.

She “can’t” join 4H or Pony Club, but there is plenty of their information out there for free if she wants to use it. Like the D study guides here: http://www.oregontrailponyclub.com/d-level-study-center.html
Or the C guide here: http://www.baywoodponyclub.com/c-study-center.html
While the riding stuff isn’t what she wants for western, the care, feeding, conformation information should all be helpful. She’s expressed no interest in it, or even acknowledgment it’s been provided to her.

Links to multiple educational videos from things that again, may not be discipline-related but are certainly care and training related, and specifically targeted at younger riders, like the Dressage4Kids (http://www.dressage4kids.org/weekend-educational-program/2014-wep-video-clips/ and http://www.dressage4kids.org/weekend-educational-program/2013-weekend-educational-program-video-clips/) and the George Morris Horsemastership program (http://www.usefnetwork.com/featured/2015GMHTS/ and http://www.usefnetwork.com/featured/2014GMHTS/ and http://www.usefnetwork.com/featured/2013GeorgeMorris ) Heck, even stable management information: http://stablemanagement.com/resources/video-room

Again, no mention that she’s checked out any of the information there. It’s not hard to find; it took me less than 15 minutes, while doing about 4 other things on my lunch break. What we’ve gotten for our effots is just snark that those of us who have educated ourselves are a bunch of snobby elitists. Well, I’d rather be a knowledgeable, hard-working elitist than an ostrich.

Okay I’m sorry. I think everyone is taking this wrong, but what I meant is this: I am in a situation in which I am not able to drive, my mom and dad are totally out of this picture (they both work, and will not support me),my friend also works, (also, I don’t feel comfortable doting on her, as she’s done a lot for us) and the nearest lessons would be very far away. I did not try to say “I can’t”, but I hope now that you see how I stand… as far as me saying “e.g., fancy training barns.” I’m sorry, I meant any lesson barns, as to me, they seem fancier, since I am not used to them, did not grow up with them either. It is like a grandpa seeing his teenage grandson with a phone, he would also think “Wow, cool, must be fancy”. Yes, sorry for this poor illustration! But I hope you understand what I meant? I’m not better than anyone,or better without anything either, as far as I know. I am learning, and continue to learn alot. My friend is practically the only source we have, other than books, videos, any other form of help, but I soak it all in, and try to use it,if I’m able!
ETA:
I’m also using all the resources I have.

Whoa…I have not had the time to reply to every post, I’m sorry if I ‘ignored’ ya…and I never ever ever EVER called anyone an 'educated bunch of snobby elitists"… never entered my mind, to be exact. I don’t specialize in calling people names, much less over the Internet. Actually I’ve checked into everything I could! Thanks for it!
^this is you whining about how you can’t. Stop wasting your time whining about how you can’t and actually do.
So…you want me to break the law and drive, when the lessons are very far away, and expect my parents to pay after forcing them to bail me out of jail for driving under the law, much less without an adult? And especially when my parents said no (and have been saying no) to the lessons? Can you please tell me how possible that is? I’m not trying to be nasty, that’s the farthest from my intentions.

OK sorry, I thought you said they’d gone without a few things. My bad. Wellll…that sounds like me, I love horses, love riding, and am willing to work hard to get to where I want to be. I am sorry if my posts’ tones invite negativity, I’m being honest. I always was, always will be.

Wish, who bought the horses? As in, who physically provided the money? Who buys their food and farrier service? Who bought your tack?
