waves of positive energy being sent your way.
(Do you need me to call in a bomb scare to your office to get you out of work?)
We are there with you, Louise.
The rolling was successful!! All intestine is back where it belongs. She still has a long way to go, and, because she is still gassy, there is danger that the intestine could float over there again, but, for now the danger has passed.
They will keep her in the clinic for several days, and maybe more. Because she has diarhea, they have sent a sample to Cornell, to test for salmonella. She can’t go home until that comes back clear. But, having been through one bout of that with her, I am very confident that she doesn’t have it, she doesn’t have a temperature, and she’s not refluxing.
They also want to keep a close eye on her, make sure she starts eating slowly enough, that she is drinking and pooping normally, before she goes home.
I, by the way, was overwhelmed and humbled when I saw the number of posts on this thread. I can’t thank all of you enough, for sharing the burden of this with me. I am very sure that all the good thoughts that you were thinking helped bring this to the conclusion that we were all hoping for.
Thanks you all so very, very much, both for that, and for the comfort you have extended to me!
Well I don’t know if the crococile tears falling on my keyboard are bigger now or when I first read your plight. But these are definitely ones of relief, huh?
Ahhh, the power of positive thinking, even if virtual.
Keep us updated. And blast that little mare for putting you through all of this. Don’t you just want to hug the daylights out of 'em?
“The older I get, the better I used to be.”
Louise and Promise,
Prayers are heading your way…
I went through peritonitis this past spring with my wonderful fieldhunter (and he survived).
Good Luck and will be awaiting your updates.
It’s not fair. I’m so sorry, Louise. Promise will let you know what to do.
Many of you know that I have seen my good little mare Promise through a great many illnesses over the course of her life. You all helped me get through the cecal impaction that she suffered this Spring.
Promise has been in the clinic since Friday with colic symptoms. Nephrosplenic entrapment (intestine that has looped over ligament in the stomach) was suspected, but it could not be definately diagnosed until today. She will be medicated to reduce the size of the spleen, then jogged or lunged to attempt to jog that intestine back into the right place. If that doesn’t work, she will be rolled.
Surgery is not an option. It is too costly, and the surgeon says that it is often useless in these cases, because the intestine can drift back over the ligament at any time.
Promise needs your prayers. I don’t care if they are Christian or not, or even if they are good wishes sent her way, she just needs those waves of support coming at her.
Thank you for your support, in the past, and now.
and prayers are with you and Promise. Hold in there, Louise.

Yes, all of us are.
I was relieved to hear that Promise is doing well. Continued positive energy will be sent to her for a speedy recovery.
So fabulous to hear such wonderful news…just gives me goosebumps
–If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.
for you and Promise!

C’mon Promise! Poop it out! Poop it out! Waaaaay out!
