Preakness 2023

I don’t know. I haven’t kept up with My Racehorse since @Where_sMyWhite passed away.

Do you have access to the MRH facebook or other social media? Perhaps they have something there.

It’s not the first time I’ve wondered this, but why would anyone name a horse “Circling The Drain”???

I know, why ? My first thought was how horrible to name a horse that way.
There’s nothing in his pedigree that I can see that would explain the name.

Nagirroc ran a great race. Apparently his exercise rider and his jockey’s advice to Graham Motion that the horse needed blinkers, was the difference in this race. Nice of Motion to give them credit on T.V.

Talk about names … Is Nagirroc Corrigan backwards?

Is the track faster than usual or the horses?!

Yes. They explained, but I don’t remember who it was that he was named after.

And Flavian Pratt gave him an amazing ride!!

Interesting story about Javier Castellano refusing to wear pants advertising a steak house in the Derby and took himself off of Raise Cain (I think that was the horse, not sure.)

He then accepted the ride on Mage.

Edited to say this is not true, I had it all wrong.

I didn’t see mention of the horse’s name that broke down, RIP Havnameltdown.

No video, warning there is a photo.

I am so sorry I looked at the photo.

Havnameltdown was named earlier in this thread.

@skydy, Catellano refused NOT to wear his sponsor’s logo, and that’s why he switched mounts.

@bingbingbing, Yes, I mentioned him when it happened. It was clear when he broke down that the injury would be terrible. I kind of wish I hadn’t seen that photo - I assumed it wasn’t going to be quite so graphic.

oh, ok, sorry, I missed it.

His sponsor was the Steak house? If so, they surely messed up in their reporting.

Believe so…maybe named after his breeder or early trainer?

On the MRH silks, sometimes ownership partners take turns putting their own silks on in different races. Perhaps majority partners in the MRH group do that.

On the sad side today, apparently, just going by what the talking heads are discussing, horses in lesser races are not subject to the same vet scrutiny as those in the marquee races today. They actually had quite an informative discussion and good head vet interview on the subject and PD was fuming over the fact it took 8 months to release Forte’s positive and officially DQ him, just unacceptable and has to stop. Think he’s right.

They also mentioned HISA goes into effect Monday and trainers say its like getting a speeding ticket where the speed limit is a secret. Well…DUH…

Not interested in seeing a terrible photo. I’m enjoying the beauty of these horses.

Does anyone have an opinion on which horse will win?

@skydy Jeff Ruby sponsors a fund for injured jockeys in exchange for his logo on their pants. This has been going on for several years: https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/restauranteur-jeff-ruby-talks-charity-work-for-injured-jockeys-sponsoring-ky-derby-winner/.

You misunderstood the reporters. They said the same thing that I’m saying. The owners of the horse Castellano was initially scheduled to ride in the Derby didn’t want him to wear the logo, so he declined the mount and rode Mage instead. Edited to add an explanatory link: https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/268688/derby-eighth-raise-cain-possible-for-belmont.

Madge. IMO but its wide open. Maybe National Treasure…that was BBs horse that went down BTW. He’s visibly upset and not doing interviews.

Jeff Ruby owns steak houses in the Louisville/Cincy area and is a huge supporter of jockeys. There was quite a fight allowing jockeys to accept money from a sponsor and display their logo some years back. Ruby’s lawyers fought for them, locally supports many other worthy causes.

Ruby also refused to serve OJ and his posse in the Louisville restaurant some years back and won the subsequent lawsuit earning much local praise.
