Preakness is today! How do you think it will go?

I’m happy for War of Will’s connections. Sometimes people do get what they deserve. They showed their class in the Derby, and again today.

And Improbable acted up again. He was acting up in Arkansas when I saw him, and even in the paddock there, well before his gate fit, he looked hot and anxious. He simply doesn’t impress me. Hasn’t all year. Watch him make me eat those words later in some big one, but horses will do that to you.

Considering the bathroom situation, the trainer’s wife’s look might have been for another reason, such as needing a ladies room. (Just kidding about the ladies room).

I’m just glad the horses were all OK.

Yeah, I saw/heard that later. Somebody wasn’t paying attention …

Immediately after WoW crossed the finish line, NBC cut to the trainer and his wife, and they were hugging, and she was smiling and clearly elated. I think her expression later in the interview had to do with the Derby situation and, like someone said above, biting her tongue. But go back and watch it on NBC. Right after the finish, even before the gallop out, there is a shot of her looking plenty happy for you.

You can see the starter holding onto #9 saying #$@%@#!!! when the gate opens. About 1/2 way through the video.

I thought this was a thoroughly satisfying Preakness.

Looking forward to the Belmont in three weeks.

He has stringhalt.

Why I do not bet… one of my choices dumped the jock at the start in a pseudo bucking bronc routine (although not a bad as Thunder Snow a few years ago in the Derby  ).

Other choice ended up 3rd last… sigh

Time to get off the Improbable bus (which I wasn’t on). Finishing 6th with best placement at the head of the stretch in 4th.

Here’s a nice OP ED. I am in complete agreement. https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/op-ed-deserving-preakness-win-for-a-classy-bunch/

You really can’t blame the horse. He couldn’t go forward, so he went up.

So the puppy predictors were replaced by piglets-- and yes, I know that this is for the Kentucky Derby and not the Preakness, but just found this… uncanny… uncanny… there were only 15 piglets, so CH was not represented by a piglet.

  1. No. I was too.
  2. Yes. I heard them say he did.
  3. I agree. There was another horse running in another race at Pimlico today, named Overdeliver. I guess Bodexpress could have been named that.
  4. I agree.
  5. Me too.

Wow, that’s what I thought, but I know almost nothing about stringhalt other than an idea of what it looks like. So stringhalt did not stop him from being a classics winner!

Do you know the horse and his connections, or is this a guess? Stringhalt would be a pretty rare diagnosis for a 3yr old Thoroughbred.

Before the Race I was really admiring his butt.

I haven’t really noticed his rump, but … for you and @dressagetraks

And the photo on the front page of the sports section of the WaPo today is— Bodexpress dumping his jockey.

Thanks for that. My favorite:
“Much respect to Bodexpress for finishing the work day after the boss knocked off at 9:02 a.m.”

The bugler at Santa Anita played it as I walked in yesterday and I thought the same thing. “Christmas tree?”

I’ve been in that position–where the person beside me is being interviewed and I’m just sort of standing there superfluous. A sudden TV interview can be daunting if you’re not used to it. From my experience, a couple of things to consider.

First, she probably didn’t even realize that the camera was on her. Second, she was probably trying not to be a distraction so that her husband could concentrate on what he wanted to say. And third, she was probably listening intently to what Casse said so she wouldn’t sound like an idiot on the off chance that the interviewer lobbed a question to her at the end. So in that moment, she had other things to concentrate on rather worrying about the expression on her face.
