Popping in from mommy hood

The pain from complicated c sections does get better. We had a 3 day labor, emergency c section and myself and baby almost crashed. We were well on the mend by 2 weeks. Here we are at 4 months and loving every minute! https://instagram.com/p/8Tc32EoZCV/
Take it easy new moms and enjoy the ride :)[/QUOTE]

Awesome! Thanks for the encouragement. You and little one look great!

I teeter between feeling ok and then 5 mins later like someone cut a child out of my belly and my entire body hurts.

It’s all worth it ladies, every horrible moment of pregnancy and labor is 100% worth it  I have the most beautiful little 6 lb 15oz baby girl in my arms now! It’s amazing!

But seriously, do take the pain meds

Totally normal! Take the full 6 weeks of ā€œdon’t lift anything heavier than baby in their car seatā€ to heart and I also had a chair beside my bed to help myself push off to stand up.

Now the fun part…http://www.tuckertweed.com/collections/leather-handbags/products/copy-of-the-james-river-carry-all-hunter-jumper
My new diaper bag  my change pad won’t fit in it so I have a bunch of those puppy training pads that I will pack and can just throw away when I’ve used them. How amazing is that idea!?

Congrats ilm!

Congratulations! I’m so happy you’re now on ā€œthe other sideā€

As I sit here at 5:30 am breastfeeding, posting to COTH and ordering pacifiers on Amazon, I have to agree. Little man is the best reason for loss of sleep. Ever.

And just say yes to drugs.

ilmjumper - Congrats!!!

Lets talk maternity clothes. I know I read on here that someone liked the Patagonia leggings, but I HATE the way I look in leggings. Any other suggestions? I am at the point that none of my pants fit anymore, even my ā€œfatā€ pants. I have the belly band, but it does not work for me. I went to the grocery store yesterday with it and my pants continuously were falling down. At one point I looked down and my belly band road up and my pants were falling down and everyone can see that my pants were wide open in the front and my underwear was hanging out… It was mortifying. I wonder how long I walked around like that…

I got some nice leggings at destination maternity prior to finding out I had a miscarriage. I’m still going to wear them anyway though. The Material is fine, but I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable wearing anything other than a long shirt with them. They are not the thinnest material, but not the thickest either.

All of my non maternity dress pants are Gap and I have some maternity ones I like as well. I also picked up a pair of Jessica Simpson maternity jeans I really liked the fit of.

Yes! More suggestions please! My legs and leggings just don’t look great together either - and I am not a dress wearer either. My legs rub together and I can’t handle it and Calgary winter is way too cold for dresses even with leggings underneath. Any advice out there for office appropriate non-legging maternity wear that isn’t a dress?

Also - now that I’m in my second trimester apparently my body decided that even though I’m not so tired anymore - NOW its time to puke. Every damn morning, and night. Blech.

Motherhood Maternity has some nice clothes, albeit not cheap! I’ve been making the conversion to maternity clothes over the past few weeks with a combination of hand me downs and my mini shopping spree at MM yesterday. Maternity pants are soo comfortable!! I also have Bella Bands (Ingrid & Isabel) that I’ve been wearing for a good 6+ weeks, but they’re starting to feel too tight and I’m finding just switching to maternity pants to be easier and more comfortable. Old Navy and Kohl’s have a lot of maternity clothes on their websites but I found their in-store selection to be severely lacking. Maybe not a big deal if you don’t mind buying clothes online but I’m the type who likes to try things on first.

Congrats ilmjumper!! So glad things went well for you and good to hear it’s all worth it in the end!

Hi Guys!

I promise to respond to all of the PMs today. I have a hard time with COTH as it is horrible on my phone, and any time I login to my computer I do so mostly to check in with work.

I’m doing well. Post-partum has been a bit rough with the emotions and roller coaster, it came as a surprise for me.

In better news, I’ve dropped 20 lbs in 2 weeks! I’m sure the rest will come off much more slowly, but that felt great to get on the scale this morning!

For maternity clothes - check out the second hand children’s clothes stores. They typically carry maternity, and can be bought for pennies on the dollar.

My husband’s aunt got me a very generous gift certificate to Motherhood Maternity. I am going to go check it out this weekend. I need to do something for clothing. Luckily I wear scrubs at work and have just gone up a size in them and they are fitting fine so far. It is out of work clothing that I am struggling with… Could it really be that bad if I live in scrubs and my husband’s sweats…

In other news - I GOT A CRIB!!! I was very fortunate that a friend of mine gave me her beautiful crib for FREE!!! First furniture item in the nursery. It is actually weird looking in the room now that was completely empty since we purchased our house last year and seeing a crib. Almost making it REAL!!!

Nick - I pm’d you, but really glad to hear from you and am I so happy that you are doing better!!!

Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies, and I am so sorry for those who have been lost.

I am in week 8 and had a good ultrasound last week. Baby is measuring appropriately and the heartbeat was strong. I go back at week 10. It’s definitely hard not to worry in between, but I’m also so exhausted that I don’t have all that much energy! I am trying to ride and walk - I was an avid (short mileage) runner and ran until a week or so ago. I’m sure I still could, but see that whole exhaustion thing.

The tiredness eases up in the second trimester…right?!

It does get better! I’m no longer falling asleep on the couch at 8pm every night. I even stayed up until midnight with friends on Saturday! WOO!

However - where I never had any actual vomitting in my first trimester - I’ve now had several now that I’m in my second. So as they say… everyone’s different! I’m at week 14.

I do worry in between ultra sounds too. I am 19 weeks this week.

My first trimester was exhausting. Thank goodness I didn’t get horribly sick, I don’t know how women do it, exhausted and sick. There was weeks that I would work and come home directly and pass out on my couch. Weekends where I didn’t leave the couch. It does get better. I was very active pre-pregnancy, and the exhaustion just did me in. I would ride after work every day, then spend 1 1/2 hours at the gym afterwards, all before going home, cooking dinner, doing housework, and walking the dog every night for 3 miles. I couldn’t do any of this, I was just too exhausted. Trust me, it gets better and you do get energy back… I have not gotten back to the gym, but I am seeing my horse daily for rehab hand walks (his injured) and walking the dog every night now. I am only in my second trimester, but I am really dreading the 3rd, because my body feels so not normal already.

Congratulations GreyStreet! Yes, the exhaustion does go away (though I know right now it feels like it will never end!). I was soooo tired in weeks 6-10, and it started getting better in week 11 and by week 13 or so I was mostly back to normal. I also did not get sick, per se, but was definitely a bit queasy/NQR in weeks 8-10 so watch out for that. Hard ginger candy works wonders for it (or at least it did for me!). I remember thinking around week 10 or 11, why do people do this and do it MULTIPLE TIMES?!?! And I didn’t even have it that bad! So if you’re feeling that, just remember that this too shall pass!

The first part of the second trimester was a breeze, I barely even felt pregnant at all except for the constant peeing! Now my bump is growing and while I don’t necessarily feel bad, I am starting to get uncomfortable at times, particularly in the evenings after dinner (and I’m not even eating a lot!). My riding days I fear are mostly behind me for now, short of maybe a few walking hacks. Luckily my horse is in my backyard so I still get my ā€˜fix’ everyday, even if I’m not riding. Definitely dreading the 3rd trimester! But, rumor has it it’s all worth it

I’m in my third tri, and hate to tell you ladies that some of that exhaustion comes back. I just had to sit down and rest after emptying the dishwasher, lol. I’m 30 weeks and some change and was also an avid runner pre-pregnancy. Now I walk as much can as I can, but there are definitely days where the thought of going for an hour walk makes me need a nap. All of this sleepiness is a new development for me, but i don’t think it’s unusual.

Congratulations to all the new moms!

I dropped my horse off at the driving trainer this week, it’s amazing how much more energy and gumption I have at this stage in the second pregnancy. I think it’s because the toddler keeps me hopping. I would never have considered twice a week lessons at 30 weeks last time!

Ann Taylor Loft has the BEST maternity pants and jeans. The work pants look just like real dress pants and have held up well in the washing machine and dryer for the last few months. They are a wider leg trouser cut. But, they do run small in the posterior compared to their regular clothes, so go up a size or two from pre-pregnancy. I also got a pair of skinny black pants from Target that look good under some of my longer tops and don’t show my underwear like some of the straight leggings do.

35 weeks over here, and I feel like I got hit by a truck, plus I’m having hot flashes and pouring sweat in my office. Weeks 18-21 were the best I felt since getting pregnant.

Shopping for maternity clothes is the worst, but here is a hilarious post that I feel is an accurate representation of the experience:

22 weeks and change here. I am now three and a half weeks with no barfing! Yay! I seriously do not know how (or why) people with small children do it. I would have seriously barfed on any toddler for sure. Finally have some energy back and that awful 24/7 nausea is for the most part gone (stuck around longer than start of second tri), having been replaced by weird sensations, such as the ā€œam I starving or really really fullā€ feeling (which I believe is junior sitting on or squishing against my stomach), the double kick stretch where junior kicks/punches in two locations at once, and, another new one, the itchy tummy (even though I have been moisturizing religiously with BioOil on a friend’s recommendation). So glamorous. Fyi, for anyone else, I used coconut oil (unrefined) last night and not only does it smell good, but it seemed to help my itching too. I think maybe the Bio Oil is irritating my sensitive tummy skin

Hilarious article! I do feel like one of those horse-people jokes where I don’t even blink writing the $250 check to the farrier, but looking at Target’s maternity clothes I’m like, $19.99 for this! that I will wear for 4 months! Ok, I’ll buy one and wear it every day.

My regular pants are finally starting not to fit even when unzipped. Dresses are good, but I know I’m gonna need to make some purchases (hopefully minimal) soon. I did read in one guide about packing for the hospital and it suggested bringing a spare set of clothes for leaving the hospital and that such set should be 5 month pregnant size. Can anyone vouch for this?? Will we decrease that much just after the birth? It seriously sounds too good to be true.

On another note, I have been riding in my kerrits fullseat tights and I kinda love them. They are 2 sizes above my normal size and are a little loose through the legs (though that seems to be going away), but good in the waist and I can roll the waistline down so they sit below my tummy. Also they have this cool holster pocket on the right leg that perfectly fits my cell phone, so they are safe as well  I was thinking I would get a ā€œnormalā€ size pair for after baby arrives, but now I am unfortunately coveting the TS tan patch breeches. Le sigh.
