PSA: Parlanti-esque TuffRider Sport Dress boots on sale at Dover for $99

Ok, so dumb question…in the size chart on Dover, it states that the width for 7-7.5 foot size in the regular calf is 14-14.5. Does that mean that they are 14" for the size 7 and 14.5" for the 7.5 or that the width is the same for both 7 and 7.5 and that it fits a 14-14.5" calf? Ditto the same question for the height. Although I don’t see how the height could be 19-19.5"?

Same here. The toes are a little snug. Will try them on a few more times before deciding whether to exchange them.

Unless anyone has a pair of 8s they’d like to trade for my 7 1/2s. PM me.

I should have paid more attention to the description before buying. I was surprised by the elastic down the front. It does make them comfy though. Overall I’m pretty happy with them for the price.[/QUOTE]

I bought these too in an 8 1/2 and they are just too snug to wear for any length of time so if anyone has a 9, let me know or PM me for a good deal!

If anyone is thinking of ordering definitely go up a half size from your normal size!
I really like these boots, they look nice and the break in wasn’t too bad.

I was about to order a pair of half chaps because my treadsteps, after a year and a half is still digging into my achiles tendons, and its still a little tight.

I wore a slim in the treadsteps and figured it was too small. My calves are 13 inches, so I should be ordering the slim, but I"m terrified that i will have the same zipping issue.

Is it a bit wider than treadstep?

I really really do not need a new pair of boots, but that is a good price and my half chaps are falling apart…

Anyone know how the sizing of Tuffrider compares to Ariat? I usually wear size 8-8 1/2 in street/regular shoes and I wear a 9 in Ariat (at least I wear a 9 in their paddock boots).

I wear a 7.5 in the ariats and in this boot i ordered an 8, it was quite tight in the foot at first but now they’re almost too big in the foot. As for the calf, order small… they stretch a ton… be warned! I can’t wear mine now as they slip and twist to the outside. Very pretty boots though…

Bumping this to say I went to the Dover tent sale yesterday specifically keeping an eye out for these boots. I tried them on and fell in LOVE. Really soft leather, comfortable footbed, fit me beautifully. I bought them planning to use them for schooling, but am now considering getting a second pair to replace my show boots, which I’m now realizing don’t fit nearly as well as they could. (Incidentally, if anyone is interested in a pair of 7 Wide Ovation show boots in like-new condition, PM me :D)

For those of you still considering ordering them, a caveat about the sizing. I have a size 7 foot and my calf is about 14 inches, maybe a smidge bigger. If I had ordered these online, I would have gone with a 7 Regular, based on the sizing chart. Really glad I tried them on, because the girl fitting me put my in a 7.5 EXTRA SLIM and that’s what fit. With the soft leather and stretchy panels, I’m sure they will stretch out a bit too. So if you are ordering online, I would suggest sizing up 1/2 size in the foot and down 1-2 sizes in the calf. I never thought I would fit in an extra slim boot! Strangely, my friend bought the exact same size boots as me, and when we got home, we realized we had swapped boots. Hers were too tight on me, and mine pinched her ankles. So the sizing appears to not be totally consistent on these, but if you can try these on in person, they are absolutely worth the money.

I still can’t decide if I need a 9 or 9 1/2. Also I was planning on ordering a X-slim, but after reading cuse’s post I have a feeling the calf will be to big. It really is a pain at times living where there’s no tack stores.

What size is your calf, Firebug? My friend definitely has smaller calves than me, I’m probably stretching mine more than she is.

Measuring without breeches or socks; they’re around 13 inches. So really I’d need to order a 8 1/2 in x-small to get the calf to fit. But if the boot runs small I need to order a 9. I’m guessing the boots just won’t work for me.

Yeah, without being able to try them on it’s a bit of a crapshoot. I definitely would have ended up with too-large boots if I hadn’t tried them on. On the other hand, the price point is so good you could probably resell them and recoup most or all of your money. Good luck!

I adore mine and I’m really happy this thread inspired me to buy them!

I need an extra wide short normally, but with these I got a wide calf and opted to size down in foot size to get a shorter height. I regretted this as they were horrifying to break in but I ended up taking the little padded heel tongue and putting it under my foot and they stretched and now they are like custom with built in heel lifts, lol.

They beat paddocks and half chaps by a mile

I just ordered them on Friday- I am usually a 6 1/2 wide (15-16" calf) but ordered a 7 wide. Hoping they don’t stretch too much!! Can’t wait to get them and try them on!

I got this in the mail today and I have to say I’m super thrilled with it! They are not Parlantis, but they are supple, soft and gorgeous. My treadstep after 1.5 years of wearing still digs my achilles tendons.

It does have a rather strange elastic thing on the front, but I"m not gonna worry about it. Cheaper than paddock boots and half chaps!!

Thank you for posting this!

So you ordered a size smaller then you usually wear! Ouch I can imagine that they were painful to break in!

Mine arrived in the mail today!! Per the advice of other posters, I ordered a 1/2 size bigger than what I usually wear. They are generous in the foot, and I think I could have stuck with my normal size (6.5), but now I can wear them with thick socks. First impression- they are SOOOO comfortable and soft and zipped up easily the first time (now that’s a first time experience with tall boots). They are a bit tall for me, anyone have experience with how much/how quickly they may drop (if at all)?

I cannot wait to ride in them, and I am glad other posters convinced me I should pull the trigger on these :-).

I ordered mine a while back when this thread first happened. Have only ridden in them once so far (I haven’t ridden much b/c of wedding, lease, moving, etc) but will plan on using them again now that I’m riding. So far, very impressed with the quality of the leather. Super supple, comfortable to walk in. I plan on using them for schooling but may show in them too.

I got sucked into these, wanted a pretty looking schooling boot-- they fell apart after two rides. Returned them for a new pair, same thing. Never again. I’ll stick with my Parlantis.

Has anyone seen what the new ones are like? More specifically the brown ones? I am saving my “frivolous spending” pennies for a pair of brown tall boots, and I was torn on just getting a pair of Ariats (which don’t fit great) or saving a little more and taking a chance on custom Eiki’s, but now the new TuffRiders are in the running too!

…There are brown ones!!!
