Riderless Horses and Horseless Riders--matchmaking service!

Re-post: Horseless in Montgomery County, MD / D.C. Metro

I posted several months back, but nothing worked out, so I thought I’d give it another go.

I’m competent and reasonably experienced, albeit very rusty–out of the saddle for over 2 years now, and really pining for some horse and saddle time. Was at one point showing a greenie in the 2’6" hunters, am comfortable jumping up to 3’ on an experienced horse. I’m 5’3" and petite enough to ride mediums…I’m comfortable on anything 13.2 or so and up.

Due to some not-so-great experiences and injuries in the past coupled with having been horseless for so long, I’d prefer not to ride anything overly spooky, barely green-broke, or the like. I can deal w/ minor baby stuff and have no problem with horses that need work on the flat or over low fences–I’d just prefer to stay away from anything you wouldn’t trust, say, your teenager on. I’d also be more than happy to hop on lesson horses that need tune-ups, etc–I did tons of this before, and taught beginner/intermediate lessons at the same time.

I’m in Montgomery County, near 270/495. I’m alright driving some, but would prefer something in MD and within 20 miles or so–as anyone from the area knows, traffic makes anything further than that impossible to get to anytime during the week. Also, I’m unfortunately not in a position to half-lease or anything similar right now. I can, however, offer lots of brushing, treats, and doting attention.

Can also provide references if you’d like.

Rider looking for horse or pony to ride in noVA, DC metro area!

Hi! I am a responsible 15 (almost 16) yr old looking for a horse or pony to lease around the Northern Virginia-Washington DC area. I can independently walk, trot, canter, groom, tack, and bathe a horse/pony. The highest that I have jumped is 2 ft although I haven’t really jumped anything in a couple months. I have quiet hands and I have shown and placed at local hunter shows so I do have show experience. I guess I would be considered an intermediate rider?

Although I am a petite 5ft tall rider, I have ridden a variety of different horses and ponies, from a 17h OTTB to seasoned show veterans to stubborn 12.2h ponies and everything in between. That being said, I’d be happy to ride a younger horse (like 6 yrs old and up), but please, no horses or ponies with major spook, rearing or bucking problems! Safety is of utmost importance.

I am willing to pay up to $200 a month to help with board in exchange for riding at least 3x a week or more. I can also help out with feeding & water and I wouldn’t mind cleaning the horse’s/pony’s stall either. I would love to take the horse/pony to local shows and trails in the area if you are willing to provide trailering, but it’s ok if you can’t. I am located in Fairfax County near Vienna, VA.

I’d love to hear from you so that we can work something out! Please send me an email at emilyy.do@gmail.com and I’ll definitely respond within a day or so. Thank you very much!

Rider in northern VA

Horseless rider in northern Virginia here, willing to trade barn work for saddle time. I’m an intermediate re-rider, rode just for pleasure for my entire childhood but didn’t ride for years after college. I’ve been back in the saddle taking lessons again for about a year and a half. I can’t help train a greenie or take on a challenging ride, but I do have some experience helping teach foals ground manners etc. I’m short so I prefer to ride smaller horses or large ponies.

Frederick MD

I am looking for someone to help me keep my girl in shape.

The barn is in Frederick MD and has a nice outdoor and lots of trails.

Tazz is a 15.2 bay QH mare. Well trained in english/jumping. Good on the trails. There is also the opportunity for this rider to show.

Bored horses near Rome and Cedartown in Georgia

I thought I would try once again. I have several bored horses who would love to be ridden. We have trails right off the property or I would be willing to take you with me to Berry College to ride. I have quiet horses and I have some not so quiet ones. A couple with show experience. I would love for them to have a job!

Riderless horses in middle GA area

I am between Perry and Hawkinsville, GA. I have 2 TWH’s and an arabian. I am looking for someone who is an experienced rider, who would like to do some pleasure/trail riding.

I compete my TWH mare in NATRC competitive trail rides, she was the NATRC 2009 High Point TWH, among other awards. She’s extremely well trained, easy to ride, and smooth gaited.

My TWH gelding is a 4yo with a few months of riding on him, really calm and easygoing, does well on trails and roads, but still green. Very well behaved, though, you’d probably never know how green he is if nobody told you!

The arab is about 20 and mostly retired. I’m not particularly seeking a rider for her although if you have a particular liking for arabs I’d be happy to let someone exercise her. She’s a past NATRC competitive trail horse with excellent manners and a well trained, calm, good trail horse.

I just don’t have time to ride all 3 horses, would love to find a reliable person in my area who would like to go ridng with me a couple days a week. Someone experienced enough to ride my greenie would be great, but I’d be willing to ride the greenie if I had someone to ride my TWH mare. I need to get her in shape for fall competition and I need to put miles on the greenie and I don’t have time to do both!

An older teen with parental permission and their own transportation (including parents signing a waiver) would be fine with me, as would an adult rider or re-rider. MUST have riding experience sufficient to be comfortable catching a horse, tacking up on your own, riding at all gaits in open spaces. Experience with gaited horses is not really necessary. I’d like to trade riding time for barn sitting services when I go out of town.

I will also provide tack (I have a 15.5" Western saddle available for use). I would consider letting someone use their own saddle IF I find that it fits the horse well.

Oh and sorry but I would prefer a woman- I’m a happily married woman and I doubt my husband would appreciate me finding a male riding companion! Gotta keep the hubby happy!

Horseless Rider in Austin, TX

Well, I AT LAST have the triple threat: employment, car, horse-friendly city. I’m getting back on my feet at the moment in Austin but am desperate for a ride - anything really. I have 12 years experience in Hunter/Jumper, retraining OTTBs and ponies, showing up to 3’ and schooling up to 3’6", riding for the NYU IHSA team, and as a working student taking out kids on hacks in France. I have human gear but no saddle at the moment. I’ll ride anything, ground training, trail rides, dressage, anything. Send me a PM if you have a lead on a catch ride around town, or any other news on where I could ride before getting back on my feet full-time!

Cheers

Mimi

Riderless Horse in NOVA

Super nice but green, GOV mare, 16.2, 8 years old, dark bay, by Argosy out of a GOV main mare book approved mare (Rolickings Bestxx). She has her “red passport” and microchip. This mare is awesome. She is a 10+ mover with a steady, steady stride and is easy a push ride. She is green. Not totally desensitized on the ground, but not flighty. Has an issue with mounting–but with consistency, she is fine. I just have someone leg me up and she is much better that way. Experienced riders only. Rusty re-riders ok  She isn’t quite ready to show just yet, but with a few months of consistent ride time, she should be ready to go. She has not been started o/f, but is ready to be.

I just had a new baby a month ago and with two children and a full time job I am finding myself unable to ride as much as I would like. When I am riding, it’s clients horses to bring in extra income. My horses are getting put on the back burner.

Please PM me if you are interested!

Riderless Horse - Central Maryland

8 y/o overweight Draft Cross (15.1hh) needs exercise! Gelding is green to arena work but very trail safe. I don’t have as much time to ride as I thought I would since having a baby 3 months ago. Farm has acess to small paddocks and short trail system. English and western tack available on site.

Jumper Prospect- Chester County PA

I have had some health issues that keep me out of the saddle.

Please message me for more info.
Thanks!

UPDATE: Horse has been leased out through 08/2011- THANKS!

MARYLAND - south of DC.

17 hand TB/QH, exceptionally handsome gelding  13 yrs. Done it all. Local hunters, pleasure, trail rides, fox hunts. Private farm. Owner has no time. Horse is too nice to sit around unemployed, would love some attention. Likes beginners. PM for more info.

Horseless rider/groom in Western PA

I’m a re-rider who is trying to make lessons happen again but currently having some trouble making plans due to health issues in the family. (I don’t really want to pay for lessons if I’m going to have one, then none for weeks, then one again, you know? Seems like a waste of money since you’ll never make progress that way.)

Anyway, I am interested in getting back into horses, and would be quite happy to even just visit with one, do some grooming, that sort of thing. Horses are good therapy and with the mentioned family health issues, I could use some.

My previous riding education was in dressage at ROMRA here in Pgh, but that was many years ago now - most of my lessons were also with one of the instructors, not him personally. I had a random handful of lessons while I was living in England, also, and have done trail-ride sort of things here and there since. So I’m pretty rusty on the riding side of things - if you do have a suitable horse and want it ridden under the instruction of a trainer, maybe we could work something out. Like I said, though, I’d be happy just to go and check on a horse, do a bit of grooming, say hello.

(I know this is probably a long shot, but I figured why not give it a try.)

Green But Quiet Gelding Near Ashburn, VA (Arcola Area)

I am looking for someone who has time to come out on a regular basis during the week (not looking for a weekend rider please) and hack out with me and/or work in the ring. I have a super quiet and sensible horse for the right person and we have stellar trails. Looking for someone who is a seasoned horse person and responsible. Send me a PM if you are interested and are sincere about having the time.

3 mares+ new to area rider needs riding buddies in Jarrettsville, MD

Looking for intermediate+ rider to share riding time with me on my 3 TB (one is a TB cross) mares. They are lovely, well schooled polo ponies but double as fun to pop over fences/trail riding extraordinaires. Brave, fun girls who love to explore the MD countryside in the polo off season and I just don’t have time to get everybody ridden. You can ride alone (once approved) or with me.

On a side note, I would love to have someone to trail ride with! I just moved from CO to MD (where I’m originally from) and am lacking in riding buddies. I miss the barn social life that I had in CO and am on my own on a 250+ acre farm. Most of my old showing/polo friends have either moved away from the area or don’t have the time/desire to ride anymore. I’m pretty laid back (but stringent on horse care), do not pick people’s riding apart, and I do enjoy the occasional beer after a ride.
So anyone who may want some socializing with a straight 26 year old f (I know-this sounds like a singles ad) to go with their riding time, let me know!

Riderless Horse in Lexington, VA

Sweet, fun, uncomplicated TB gelding. Shown through Novice level eventing, schooling 1st Level dressage. He’s 9 years old, 16.2, bay and adorable, just a fun guy. I moved to PA last year and couldn’t afford board in the Philly area, so he’s getting fat and lazy down in VA. Would love someone in the southwest VA area who needs a regular ride and maybe wants to compete. Would consider lease/sale to the right home. PM for more info or pictures.

4th Level WB Gelding - Raleigh NC

Horse rich and time poor and I have absolutely no desire to compete at the moment. He is at my N. Raleigh farm. Email or message for details.

English equestrian horseless in Westchester County, NY. I’m almost jealous of people that live in the states that posted that they need riders! Hope it all worked out for everyone!

Longshot in Louisiana

I know this a longshot as there aren’t too many COTHers from Louisiana, but here goes:

I’m a 30 y/o professional looking to get back in the saddle after a 10-month hiatus. Can travel an hour from New Orleans, doesn’t matter which direction. Perfectly willing to chip in with chores although I can’t afford to pay. I have riding/horsemanship references, including fellow COTHers.

Am not too picky about the type of horse/riding, as long as the horse isn’t very green. Before I moved to LA, I rode primarily with eventing/foxhunting trainers. I’ve also trained in Western Pleasure (IHSA), huntseat, and dressage (novice of all disciplines, master of none), though clearly I’m going to be quite rusty. I’m not looking to compete or anything like that soon though, so I’m just looking to keep my riding fitness/skills up and simply to spend some barn time, which I miss. If it’s just an hour trail ride once a week, I’m happy.

Hmmm, what else…I’m just shy of 5’4" so I’m comfortable riding medium/large ponies as well as any height horse. If you’d prefer that I use my own saddle, I’ve got one if it appropriately fits your horse.
BTW- if you’re curious, my profile pic is me foxhunting in Massachusetts.

Is there anyone around that can help?

Horseless Rider - Austin TX

Just moved to Austin TX, had to sell my horse before coming down here, and now looking for a horse to ride while I am in school. I have taught lessons for 10 years, trained and ridden just about every kind of horse (English only), and am comfortable up to about 3’9-4ft. I have Evented through Training level, but also love working with youngsters and problem “children”. I am looking to get more into the jumper scene, but I’m happy for anything I can find to get in the saddle again. Love dressage and eventing, too.

I have my own tack, or I’m happy to use yours.

Looking for opportunities to ride in or around Austin, TX only. I’m in school so I can’t afford to pay for anything, but happy to ride a horse that needs some extra training.
