Oklahoma City area experienced rider
I have recently relocated to OKC, and will be horseless for awhile longer but would love to help someone keep a horse exercised. I will be going back to Omaha for the Labor Day weekend and will retrieve my dressage saddle and saddle seat cutback, but until then, saddle would need to be provided by horse owner too. I am short and lightweight, (just under 100 pounds) so I can ride ponies too. On the other hand, big horses are fun, so don’t hesitate to contact me just because you have a big horse!
I am experienced in all 3 English seats, but due to my age, do not wish to jump anything higher than 18" - 2 feet at this point. So, if any of the H/J or eventer folks need a critter exercised, I would prefer just to do flatwork. On the age thing, I have good aerobic capacity, but figure I am at the point at which I no longer believe I am going to bounce if I come off. I always wear a helmet. I have diplomatic hands, and will once again have a velcro seat after I have a few rides under my belt to get legged up again. I have ridden many greenies, but I do not wish to ride a horse that is known to be inclined to rear. I do enjoy a horse that has a go-forward attitude! (I have dealt with bolters but prefer just plain ordinary ‘go-forward’, LOL.)
Edited to add, I am an amateur and wish to remain one, but here is an example of some of my training skills you would acquire for free in addition to getting your horse exercised: I have experience transitioning horses from snaffle or pelham to double bridle, can help a greenie learn about canter leads, and if any of you saddle seat folks need a horse to learn about equitation patterns, that is also one of my skillsets. I have successfully rehabbed a bolter (the key was consistent and immediate reward by rein release for any slowing down, to the point that the horse in question became happy to canter slowly).
I am familiar with running, standing, and German martingales but I do want to let everyone know, I flatly refuse to ride a horse in draw reins, and I hate Rollkur! I adhere to the classical dressage principles (no matter what saddle I am in) of wanting the horse to be balanced between my legs and hands in self-carriage. I know that collection comes from the haunch, not hauling on the horse’s mouth with the critter heavy on the forehand. I understand that before the horse can be expected to show collection, a lot of long and low work with emphasis on throughness must be done. So, if any of that resonates with your philosophy, you can be sure I will ride your horse as carefully and diplomatically as you would!
