Riderless Horses and Horseless Riders--matchmaking service!

Horseless Rider In Athens, GA

I am a Senior at UGA looking (tentatively) to ride 1-2 times a week (availability will coincide with school schedules). I have been riding sporadically since moving to Athens due to “my” horse community being located back home and out of my reach on a regular basis. The knowledge is still there, but the muscle memory is taking a bit longer to recover. I have experience in dressage to first level and eventing to Novice plus the occasional lower level jumper or eq class for variety. Much of my experience has been bringing along or retraining older green horses with the assistance of a trainer. My “main” project is now a reliable lesson horse. I cannot commute more than 20 or so minutes outside of Athens due to gas prices.

Questions welcome, PM for more information.

Horseless Rider in Davis, CA

Penurious vet student seeking equine for low-key stress relief. I am located in Davis, CA. I would prefer to stay within 30-40ish minutes, so Solano County east of Fairfield to northern/western suburbs of Sacramento to anywhere in Yolo County.

I took lessons at a dressage/eventing barn when I was a teen, and I self-identify as a weenie eventer (despite having not competed yet due to multiple human/horse soundness issues that cropped up right before events). However, for past several years I have been focusing on work/school and mostly riding for pleasure, hacking out on friends’ horses and doing very occasional xc schooling or lessons. I have decent balance and a reasonably quiet seat/leg/hands, but I’m a bit out of riding shape from not riding regularly. I just want a friendly, safe horse to hack or maybe do some flatwork/weenie jumping if available (but by no means necessary). I have no great ambitions, and my schedule as a student won’t allow a rigorous riding routine, but I would love to get in a little saddle time.

Yes, I am also asking fellow vet students, but I thought I’d give CoTH a try.

Riding in N. GA -Jasper/Waleska/Canton area

Our small farm has riding and driving opportunities. We have a lot of fun here and have some great people share our horses with us but a couple more people to join our crew would be nice.

We are always looking for experienced riders, who can commit to the long term. Currently, we have a couple of great, very well trained Percherons to ride and a dressage trained (level 3) Hanoverian (for the experienced dressage rider only).

My address is 771 Mitchell Rd, Jasper, GA 30143
(we live very south of Jasper, close to Canton and Waleska).

If you aren’t an experienced rider, you are welcome to volunteer. We have working student positions available too.

Riderless horses in Middle TN

Rhys (bay ConnemaraX gelding) and Maggie (Haflinger mare) are still looking for good horseless riders! Both are pretty green so you need to be experienced w/ young horses. They are large ponies–would prefer riders under 160 lbs.

I’m located 10 min. S. of Leiper’s Fork and 10 min. W. of Spring Hill.

If interested please do NOT respond to this thread as I may not see it! Please PM me. Thanks!

Horseless rider in Boston

This worked for me once before (thanks, Margot) but my fabulous loaner mount has since been retired. Very experienced H/J rider who lives in Boston would love whatever chance there is to sit on horses who need rides!

Way back before college, I showed through the A/O jumpers and during college, competed a few borrowed horses in the pre-green and AA hunters. In the last few years, I’ve ridden some sale horses and helped get a hunter started over fences. The riderless horse I had was riding most recently was a very fun older jumper. I’m just looking for ride time, so am happy to play with greenies. Extremely competent on the flat.

Ideally looking to be closer to the city but will go out to the 495 belt as I work in Newton. References available.

Horseless Rider in Stephenville TX

I am currently a freshman in college and looking for a horse to help me along in my riding ability.

I am 18 years old, been riding since I was 11, however, I am not an advanced rider.

Nor am I a beginner. I would consider myself between an advanced beginner and an intermediate rider. I’m willing to take on a greenie, within reason.

I am not a trainer, and I will never advocate myself as one.

I am quite competant on the flat, and have taken dressage lessons this past summer. I have ridden out bolters, buckers, and am capable of dealing with a willfull greenie, but like I said, I am not a trainer. I myself am looking mostly for riding time.

I am willing to drive up to an hour away, though the lesser the better. I am willing to consider an off-site lease (if the owner is willing), and I will follow any and all rules, and care for every piece of equipment or living organism (meaning the horse) put into my care… even for just a few minutes.

Horseless Rider Columbia SC

Have been riding for 20 years (english - have experience in hunters, dressage, and cross country). Finances forced sale of horse in 2009 and have precluded lessons/leasing.

Most of the horses I’ve ridden have been projects (again with the finances). I would prefer nothing mean or crazy, but I am desperate enough to ride these days that I would consider either. Probably not both at once though.

Lots of experience with green horses and OTTBs. No charge. 9-5 job in downtown Columbia so available during the week in metro Columbia, for the right situation could go to farther on the weekends. References available. Please PM.

Horseless rider in Raleigh/Moncure/Southern Pines, NC

4th yr vet student, exp. in jumpers and starting horses (have dabbled with dressage, eventing, and reining lessons) looking for a ride. 5’8" and fit. Bold rider, patient, classically schooled. I’m at the vet school in Raleigh, but willing to go down to Southern Pines. Ideal mount would be an older schoolie who would let me focus on me while I “remember” how to ride. The last few years have been spent galloping island ponies down a beach bareback

I also have some friends that are also vet students who are looking to ride. One sounds as if she has as much exp. as me, some others may not.

Riderless horse in Azle,TX (NW of FTW)

16.2h, 6yr. old, Tb. mare. Homebred, unraced. I had to stop riding months ago, so she’s terribly out of shape. I did recently start longeing her because I thought I had her leased, but that didn’t work out.

She’s never been shown, but has done several eventing clinics, schooling BN and N and is very willing. She’s not a beg.'s horse, but at home she’s very quiet and she does have LOTS of trail miles. Also, she has excellent ground manners.

PM me if interested. I would of course want someone to start riding her here, but this could work into a free lease situation if we all get along:D.

Sonoma/Petaluma Looking for someone to ride with me - I provide the horse!

I’ve got two horses and there’s only one of me to do the riding. I’d like to trail ride and both of my horses are great on the trail. The problem is I haven’t ridden them out on the trail by myself (my trainer used to so they are probably okay with it) and I also don’t want to leave one behind. They’ve gotten too attached and I haven’t tackled the herdbound issue.

They are Icelandics and they are both lovely. I’d love to find someone with experience who would like to get on some kind of schedule to ride with me on my horses.

Let me know!

Horseless in Central New Jersey

Looking to free lease a 3’ equitation horse at very nice barn in Hunterdon County. Adult responsible rider that wants to do the 3’ Adult Medals but can’t afford the lease fees I’m seeing ($500-$1k a month) on top of full board, shoes, vet costs, lessons, shows, etc.

PM me if interested.

Can also lend my 25 yr old mare to fill the lawn mowing duties your horse leaves behind.

Central MA.
on farm free lease:
16.1H TB gelding, 16 yrs old, currently showing in the Adult Amateur Jumpers (1.15 m). Has been consistently in the ribbons at WEF and in Vermont. May be suitable for Equitation or Hunters. Brave, honest, careful, amateur ride. Perfect barn manners. (off farm considered for the right situation).

Horseless Rider: Orlando,Fl

I moved to the Orlando area a few months ago and have my work schedule finally settled and am looking for someone who needs help. I am a quiet rider with experience in the h/j arena. I am in my late 20s and have been riding for 20 years. Throughout my junior years I did the jr. hunters and the big eq and took a few years off when I first went to college. I then taught and managed a barn full time for a few years. Since moving to Orlando, I now have an office job :(  and horribly miss the horses!

Willing to ride ponies(I am 5’6 and can do larges and bigger mediums) and any horse, please let me know if you need help making it out to take care of yours!

Horseless Rider in Midway, KY

I’m currently going to Midway College (no, not for an equine degree), but I left my horses at home. My parents offered to pay for me to lease a horse, but I would rather they not spend the money.

I’ve been riding for about nine years, but the first five were mostly western. I have a D3 (traditional rating) in Pony Club, but I comfortable with (somewhat quiet) greenies and naughty ponies. I’m 5’5", but a bit out of shape from not riding at all for the last month.

I love large ponies/small horses, but will happily ride big horses too.

Rider looking for horse in VA

Throwing this out there…I can’t say I’m horseless, because I have my homebred mare, but her “greeness” is taking longer with the professional than thought or intended and I am really looking for something to show in the meantime. I’ve shown hunters my whole life, and I would love something to do the adults on while my mare is coming along. Ideally looking for something older, or maybe coming back from an injury that wants to be completely spoiled and horse show some again. The option to purchase might exist for the right horse. Anyone have something standing out in a field that would like a job and a FANTASTIC home with a good rider? In NoVA

Rider looking for horse in Austin, TX

Hey! I don’t post here much but was browsing and realized this might be a good place to get the word out.

I’m a 26 year old primarily hunter/jumper rider in Austin, TX. I recently had to retire my DraftX due to a rare auto-immune disease, and am looking for a horse to free lease so I can keep up riding.

I ride (and boarded in the past) at a reputable barn in South Austin with a hunter/jumper trainer and a dressage trainer on the premises.

I have been riding since I was a kid, and though I’m working out of shape consider myself very experienced with riding and horsecare. My goals are to show 2’0" - 2’6" at the local C and unrated shows here (Mostly CenTX). I take one weekly group lesson, and usually supplement with dressage lessons or training rides from the hunter/jumper trainer.

If you know of a horse that needs some excellent care and riding time please contact me!

Horseless rider in Philadelphia Pa

I have been horseless for the last 3 years, and would love to get some saddle and quality grooming time in. I am an experienced rider, and will ride or do anything to get some saddle time. I’m catch riding/training for endurance and dressage on the weekends, but would love something I could work with here at home. I can drive 30-45 minutes outside of the city( oh how I miss the green grass and trees!) Thanks for reading this, and I hope I find someone!
